Minty Posted September 4, 2015 Rin and Len. ;___; Really hoping that they will be pre-order dolls, since, based on my current loss streak, I have a 0% chance at winning them. Please let this mean that Volks is actually going to start releasing male DDs. I don't want this to be a one-time thing with a special torso.
archeotech Posted September 4, 2015 (edited) Not sure why so little faith in Volks putting together Len O.o They are a professional company and usually have very high standards so I'd very much doubt they'd half ass it with just a male torso part on a female body. D: Rin is almost certainly going to be a sister type body with maybe a ss-bust. Question then is if they'll make Len the same height at 56cm or 60cm? Most likely they'll be up for pre-order at the end of the year with release next Autumn ^_^ Can't wait to get both. Could be they'll be testing the waters with how well Len sells on whether to do more male characters but also like the semi-white they might release another male character next Summer before Len ships Edited September 4, 2015 by Guest

aquilla429 Posted September 4, 2015 Not sure why so little faith in Volks putting together Len O.o They are a professional company and usually have very high standards so I'd very much doubt they'd half ass it with just a male torso part on a female body. D: I was beginning to wonder the same thing. Volks have made lots of male things, there have been numerous male dollfie bodies all the way from tiny 1/6 plastic dolls right up to the SD sized dolls and they've even made a few Male characters in the Charagumi line. Volks can make a male doll no problem if they want to, even a Dollfie Dream male doll, heck the amount of times Danny Choo has stated he doesn't care for the design of the male Smart doll like he does the females ones, I personally think Volks can probably beat or at least match the Smart Doll Boy if they want to try to. I had thought people would be so much more positive about this news than they have been. Hitoma Posted September 4, 2015 Pleasevolkspleasevolkspleasevolkspleasevolks!!! Please! make a DD male and please make them a preorder and Miku's Ribbon outfit as well, WITH a new wig for that awesome hair. I'm glad that Rin and Len are finally going to be made, because that means Luka should be next!! Luka~ Volks, you have so much riding on this! Please don't crush the dreams of many. A loud cry from many will be heard throughout the world if you do.
Poofiemus Posted September 4, 2015 Not sure why so little faith in Volks putting together Len I had thought people would be so much more positive about this news than they have been. Because we'd rather be pessimistic now, and maybe be pleasantly surprised, than get hyped too soon and be disappointed. Though the red flag for me, personally, is that there seems to be little hype so far. You'd think with all the demand for a boy they'd be crowing about it. :/ Compare this announcement to what it was like with semi-white skin, the DDS body, and the DDDy body, back in the day--Volks basically wouldn't shut up about them for a while there. (The other thing, if you read closely, is that a lot of people are concerned he'd be too tall for his character. Should be interesting to see how this pans out. . .) In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser.
SisterKyoya Posted September 5, 2015 Not sure why so little faith in Volks putting together Len I had thought people would be so much more positive about this news than they have been. Because we'd rather be pessimistic now, and maybe be pleasantly surprised, than get hyped too soon and be disappointed. Yes. There is also the fact that all we literally have at the moment is a drawing and a promise. My concerns are that Volks has been highly resistant about doing vinyl boys before, something I've simply never understood. As much as I try to keep a positive outlook on everything that I can, I sound negative because I'm scared. Len is a character and voice I fell in love with about seven years ago and since the Vocaloids are what they are because of massive fan creations they pretty much have all the variety under the sun. There is fan art of Len from a chibi toddler all the way to being old enough to look fine on the Smart Doll boy body. My mind has been racing trying to think about the most logical route that Volks would take with the twins at the same time trying not to falsely build up my expectations of how he will be done, because frankly we don't know. When we do get some pic I still expect that I'll have an initial negative knee-jerk reaction, not because I'm expecting him to be wrong and hideous but just because I've done that before. The first pics of Kos-Mos I laughed at her 'big nose' and said some unflattering things. I love my Miss Lottie now and wouldn't change her at all. Rin & Len are the first DD for me that I love the characters and know loads about them before I even get the final dolls. I can't say the same thing about Miku, and I've learned a lot about her since Raven got her. It's just nerve wracking that the first vinyl boy that Volks chooses to do happens to be a character I severely love and had already started towards making my own version. If there was a Volks DD boy done before I'd at least have some point for comparison. I found out about the Len DD yesterday when Raven came up the stairs and the first thing he said was, "We have a problem." What was I doing at the time? Working on a necktie design for Len. To put it simply, it threw me for a loop. I have gone through a whole range of emotions since then from being mad at Volks for taking my pet project away, confused over the two snow Miku that I already have on preorder, in complete disbelief that Volks is going to make the twins at all, angry over the fact that it is going to be another massive financial crunch to afford them when Raven and I thought we'd have a break for a while, worried if Volks is going to pull some shit trick and make them lottery but still hoping that they will be preorder, all the way to being relieved that I don't have to try and make some things like the headphones or the panels on the arm things. So all of that boils down to still having a lack of solid info and my natural reaction to be afraid. It doesn't make me feel any better that it kinda feels like Volks is teasing us. At least with Danny he posts photos of the new things he's doing instead of just talking about it once he's ready to say something. I'm not worried about if the sculpting of the faces will be done well, or if the male body looks like a male if they choose to actually make one. Len is the shota of the Vocaloid world along with Oliver, he will never have a body like Big Al. This is very much why I'm not sure if they really will make a full boy body or not. We just won't know until they tell us. I want to be elated, I really, really do but a single drawing can be interpreted in many ways. I just don't want to build up my expectations into something unrealistic. I've seen loads of people do that with the Smart Doll boy. We already know that Volks will do what Volks will do, without regards to what the customers think. ~Sister Kyoya Forum Blog: Badger Pocket Tales (Family story from the beginning) | { Old Family story reboot: Start Here! } Follow me on Twitter, Flickr & Instagram

Honestly guys it's only a teaser image so far as they're probably still working on the prototypes, and they'll be promoting them as much as the Macross and Miku dolls at least which means adverts on TV, a giant banner in Akiba, and spamming the internet. The quality on Dollfie Dreams has always been very high to me. I'm still amazed at how well they did Miku and I expect the same level of quality! ^_^ As Aquilla said Volks have lots of experience in making male dolls so really don't think you need to worry. Dollfie Dreams are the only Volks range that has no male equivalent mainly because they made the dolls with a focus on male owners but as DD's have gotten more and more popular in recent years I think it's become clearer to Volks that there is a large female fanbase for male DD's to work. I mean it's only in the last couple of years that quality male anime figures have really started to come out. I always thought it was inevitable that Volks would release a male DD but just when. Volks have stated that they intend to release more of the vocaloids so it's very possible they may release Kaito and Luka next or even Meiko.

Thespian Posted September 5, 2015 I'm mostly curious about the head molds - given they are so similar, are they going to be the same mold with different faceups? Or are they going to give them each a different sculpt? I'm not sure which one I would prefer, honestly. I'm also terrified and excited to see what this new batch brings!! I wonder if it's possble Volks will sell Rin and Len as a set??! Oh gosh, I hope so. I wonder if they'll do what some BJD companies have done and give a slight discount for the set? It'd be more incentive to get both, since I get the feeling Len's going to be rather popular for whatever male parts they come up with. Amara77 Posted September 5, 2015 I don't think anyone is concerned about Volks' capability. I'm not at all. They are one of the foremost doll/figure companies. Their products are always top quality. No problems there It's more like the effort. Volks doesn't seem to care that much about what customers want. I hope they do make people happy. A shota boy is the perfect step for them, especially at their high resistance to making a male DD. I just....guess we will have to wait and see. I'm not really at risk here this style of male character doesn't interest me. I know a lot of people are excited, and I hope Volks pulls through for them. http://amara77.wordpress.com blog and shop Spoke too soon....
KiraKiraDoru Posted September 5, 2015 Uhh meh. I envisioned him. The head will be REALLY feminine, like really. Unless Gakpo and Kaito are made, I think I'll stick to SmD. BUT WHY IS NO ONE MENTIONING HOW DIVINE AN IA DOLLFIE WOULD BE I'M SERIOUS
Ravendruid Posted September 5, 2015 I think that one of the biggest reasons people are hesitant about getting too excited is the fact that in the past Volks has flat-out stated that no they will not make a DD boy, period, end of story, if you want a bo but an SD. For them to so suddenly do such an about-face on the issue is a little hard for some to swallow. I'm sure the fact that they've seen that Vocaloids can hit a much wider demographic, as well as the fact that another vinyl boy is coming on the scene, with apparently a decent amount of demand could be more than enough to convince them to change their minds, but I can still understand a lot of the "I'll believe it when I see it" attitude out there. Especially given the advertisement simply stating "Rin and Len DD" with no big fanfare about "The first DD boy" that some might expect given just how big a step it is. I'm certain that if Len is an actual full boy body that he will definitely be considered a market test to see making more is actually a viable option. As for speculation on other Vocaloids, I can more and more easily see "best girl" Luka coming out in the not too distant future, and depending on how the other non-Miku's sell, possibly Kaito and Meiko, but I really don't imagine any non-Cryptons anytime soon, as that's the only licensing deal they seem to have. As for whether or not they go as a set, I'm really expecting them to take the same path they did with Sheryl and Ranka, releasing them together but separately. I know there are quite a few people who are much more fans of one over the other. I'm actually extremely interested to see if Volks releases alternate outfits for them, and if so, which ones. Speaking of outfits, I'm extremely tempted by Miku's Ribbon Girl outfit, but unfortunately We've got so much on our plates as-is, and looking at several more months of saving for Rin and Len, it's probably not going to be too likely. chibinezumi Posted September 5, 2015 Dat ribbon girl outfit!!! …..Drools……..hits my inner girly feels….love the artwork for that! I don't know anything about vocoloid, but its always fun to watch the details unveil when Volks announces another project. Will look forward to any and all news as usual. So far Ive been more excited about the outfit releases than the dolls, so I hope they keep releasing awesome outfits. (I just need to be able to win one now) I'm speculating SS-bust for Len, but of course it would be great to see them release a male body. Given the artwork for those two, Len does look feminine enough to just pass as a flat chested DDS.

Their products are always top quality. No problems thereIt's more like the effort. Volks doesn't seem to care that much about what customers want. Not sure I understand? They won't put the effort in? Volks always puts effort in to me and of course they care about their customers but their primary customer base is in Japan and that's what they'll always appeal to first. As for customer care they do take weeks to respond to things concerning faults but in the past they've sent me free replacement parts (due to faults) and a Saber Alter doll for a charity auction I was running which was super generous. Also I sometimes send them emails with suggestions and they usually get back to me and thank me for the feedback and that they'll pass it on. If you're nice and just send a quick email they usually read them. They have a massive customer base so no way can they make everyone happy and Dollfie dream is just one range of what they do. I think that one of the biggest reasons people are hesitant about getting too excited is the fact that in the past Volks has flat-out stated that no they will not make a DD boy, period, end of story, if you want a bo but an SD. For them to so suddenly do such an about-face on the issue is a little hard for some to swallow. Volks have never flat out said they wouldn't do a male doll as far as I know, just that one wasn't currently in production which they would say even if you contacted them 2 weeks ago. Until it's officially announced they will never confirm anything as is with any japanese company. As I said before DD's are mainly aimed at the male otaku market in Japan, just as their resin line was mainly aimed at the female market. Generally male otaku don't want male DD's and as far as I know many were very vocal about it but DD's have gotten bigger in recent years and there's much more anime merchandise aimed at women these days so I'd say they were planning a male DD when they started the vocaloid range. In fact I heard about 2 or 3 years back that Volks employees were asking customers about what male characters they would like to see. Usually Volks releases new body types as pre-order projects. Miku had to come first and they didn't want to do a vocaloid pre-order project 2 years in a row so we had Macross last year and now they're moving onto Rin and Len. I expect something else next year and then maybe Kaito and Luka the year after? If Rin & Len is confirmed for this years pre-order project then I expect as was in the past that there will be at least one male DD coming in next years Dolpa's (probably May event). Examples of pre-order projects where new body types were announced: Yoko - Dynamite Marisa and Reimu - Sister Saber Alter II & Extra - DDIII body KOS-MOS - Semi-white After these were announced we got dolls with the body types in many of the Dolpa's before they were released. SisterKyoya Posted September 6, 2015 The issue at the moment is the big looming 'IF' Volks actually decides to make a male body, at all. Volks has stated before (about two years ago I think) that they would not make a male DD because their 'target market' of Japanese Otaku males, would hate it and stop buying DD, aka they would sacrifice their cash cow for a wildcard. IF Volks does make Len a male body, to what lengths are they willing to go? Will they try and placate everyone by just making a new bust and torso for the DD bodies like Obitsu does? Or will they actually see Danny and the Smart Doll boys as a threat and try to compete by making a completely new outer body sculpted to boy proportions, even if they are shota and not some beefcake? I've seen at least a couple of mentions already pointing out one bit of info that Volks seems to be missing that seems like it should be a massive selling point: Why don't they say from the beginning that he will have a boy body? That's one of the massive concerns I have that makes me wonder if there will be a Volks boy. Someone on Facebook also mentioned that Volks has said nothing about a boy body, so will they just sell 'Len' as a male outfit set to put on Rin? I can totally see that too. It's a very lazy 'good enough' mentality that I'd not be surprised if Volks did. Don't get me wrong, I like Volks, but if they truly listened to their customers, then why do they always have the disclaimer on the sales page for clothes that they 'may cause staining'? Volks is simply horrid about not making sure outfits don't stain and to me that's a massive issue. Even their wigs stain an I've got Dakota to prove it. I didn't think that 20 minutes would leave the massive stains that it did. Yet Volks doesn't act concerned at all about staining issues as long as they can just sell the dolls in the first place. They don't even seem to care about the longevity of the dolls or accessibility of replacement parts. I'm not expecting them to give out freebies or anything, I'd just like to be able to replace a part when it snaps without having to replace an entire body that we all know isn't cheap. Instead we are left with having to come up with ways to repair things when they go wrong and hopefully it works. That is the very reason that I don't have complete faith in Volks. They only really seem to do things that please them without too much fuss. I expect that Len will be made without putting forward the extra effort to 'go the full mile' and make him right. With all of my heart I want Volks to prove me astoundingly wrong, but I'm still waiting. ~Sister Kyoya Forum Blog: Badger Pocket Tales (Family story from the beginning) | { Old Family story reboot: Start Here! } Follow me on Twitter, Flickr & Instagram
foo Posted September 6, 2015 The only thing is that it would have to be a DDS-type male body. It would be dumb if Rin isn't DDS, and it would be weird if they made a male body for DDS size and then not DD.... To me the DDS body looks very feminine, it's like because the limbs are shorter they're able to put more curve into them. I think it would be just dumb to sell a DDS Len, that's really half-assing it. For some reason it reminds me about how Chihaya's unexpected SS bust was quickly followed up with the Miku pre-order project :3 Using Miku was also a great way to get a unique (and probably not-otherwise highly-demanded) bust size out there so clothing and stuff would be available. OTOH if it is Len using a DDS body, you can basically give up on Volks male DDs (~_~')
Mimiyo3 Posted September 6, 2015 I agree with Sister Kyoya in that we probably shouldn't hold our breath just yet. I mean, they could be keeping the male body hushed to market off of surprise. If some company announced something you wanted and then said, "you can go buy it right now." keeps the excitement fresh in time for purchase where as if something is posted well in advance people get time to calm down and be less impulsive. Hopefully that's the reason but I'm expecting a DDS possibly with a different male bust or something small like that. Come on volks, prove us wrong! Present! KiraKiraDoru Posted September 6, 2015 @Sister http://www.plastikitty.com/home/volks-announces-an-all-male-dollhe-dream-line That was an April Fool's joke from this year. It's the first thing I thought about when it was announced. I really wonder why, instead of doing it like that, by which I mean having a completely different line, they decided to release Len within the Dollfie Dream line. Companies in Japan like Goodsmile and Alter have been doing this, so maybe if they did, it would avoid them the hate and the loss of audience.
Gunter Posted September 6, 2015 I simply don't think it is smart to get too hyped and expect some sort of standardization of a actually male body. If this was a >MASCULINE< character, there'd be more reaction from me. Had they chosen Kaito or Gakupo, or somehow magically Hiyama I would expect them to really put an effort forth to make this a lot different body structurally. But they did Len, the identical twin of Rin. He's the most effeminate out of the entire bunch (that is very well known.). At most I expect them to give him a special bust piece, probably single torso with far less curves....if that's even necessary. It just is an easy creation of a "male" character. As Poofiemus (I always wanna just call you Poofie XD) said best. I'd rather be pessimistic and not get excited, then to have my hopes and dreams crushed. (And maybe then be surprised if they do do something good.) Lets just saying I'm taking advice from myself and how the whole deal with the Smart Doll guy went. Ugh, that face still gives me the creeps. Also, cause I have to.... INB4 he looks better as a girl then a guy. Misaki Serika will probably be their sculptor, so I mean, he's only ever done girls (including figures)....
