Rin and Len! How cute!!

I'm now contemplating on how they will make the head mold for Rin and Len, and the first thing that comes to mind is the Project DIVA 2nd opening sequence (can't post pics yet, but you can google the videos). Miku's sculpt is a bit near to that rendition, and I hope Rin and Len's will be too. If Volks will plan on having them all, eventually we will also get Kaito, who has a different body build from Len.

 

It looks like Volks is changing their decision about not releasing male bodies, and the way things are going with Danny Choo's dolls, there is some market on it.

If the remaining Vocaloid DD look like these versions, I'd be as happy as Yuriko diving into a Costco sized bag of cookies. Even though the faces have a bit of the 'sameness' issue. I really don't care because they are adorable and it made me really happy just watching the videos. The more I see of Project Diva Rin & Len, the less I get stressed over what Volks may or may not do with them.

Oh wow i can't wait to see them I hope that i can get all of the outfits for Miku as there soo many i think its going to take awhile to save for them

So this is random but I dreamed Volks released them both on a genderless body... Hope they don't really do that!

...You know, I could almost see that happening for Len. They have an androgynous SD body so it's not unfamiliar to them and maybe that would be easier for the androphobic hardcore otaku in Japan to deal with than a 100% male body. They could get away with only using one sculpt, like with Moe and Natsuki.

I WILL order that Siren outfit...well...I can dream it anyway (lol)

 

That outfit was first on my short list of outfits I was going to make and lo-and-behold Volks decides to actually make an official outfit of it; I couldn't ask for anything more >//<

 

Though considering how I've never ordered anything except a pair of in-stock eyes from Volks before (and that was just their U.S. webshop) and don't even know the difference between their different shop websites and how their preorder/non-preorder processes work....I'm pretty sure I'm doomed to stalk Mandarake for it later on ( = _ = ; ) May the dollfie gods bless me with some vocalomagic and maybe I can order this (; = _ = ; )a

I love the siren outfit, also I would like to have the Red Riding Hood-Outfit, since I missed out the first time...

Hopefully at least one of them will be a preorder-thing.

Regarding Volks sticking to female DDs only until 'now', I want to bring up the fact that anime fandom in Japan (encompassing its related facets like figures/games/dolls) is becoming more and more inclusive of female fans in recent years. I mean, obviously they've always been there, but the actual acknowledgment of this by companies themselves has really skyrocketed since 2012. Some people might say Free! was the start of this - after all since then the amount of anime made with a female audience in mind seems to have increased. The massive popularity of other sports anime with women (stuff that wasnt actually aimed at women to begin with and yet seems to be supported entirely by them - such as Haikyuu, Yowamushi Pedal, Kuroko's Basketball etc etc) as well as the recent explosion of Touken Ranbu has got the attention of figure-making companies in Japan.

 

Once apon a time it was very rare to see good quality figures of male characters, especially nendoroids. Now, even though figures of female characters still dominate, several companies have lines devoted entirely to male characters aimed at women. For example, Alter has Altair, Good Smile Company has its new Orange Rouge and even Azone has had the Asterisk Collection for a while now, which seemed to have been forgotten but recently has been dusted off again with the announcement of four 1/6 Hetalia dolls. Then there's Danny Choo's apparent plans to make licensed character dolls with SDb.

 

Maybe Volks are taking note of these market trends but starting with a 'safe' character like Len who is already slightly feminine. I hope this is the case, because I'd certainly like to see a Volks take on the Touken Ranbu boys if that's remotely likely.

 

Regardless of how Len turns out, I hope he sells well enough to have Volks consider a Kaito. Kaito's my dream doll after all - I'm currently wanting to mod an Eiji smart doll into him as a birthday present to myself next year but who knows.

I'm also really curious if they'll release Len on an androgynous body or a real boy body. I have a feeling it will be more like the boy body on their resin dolls... at least that would make sense to me. I doubt it will be very masculine at all, due to the character being so young, although I wish it was... ㅠㅠ

Surely they don't release him on a girl body... right? I think they wanna have some ccompetition with smart doll new boy. So I bet they will work out *some* kind of boy.... but I have a feeling it will be super shota style ;~; so basically a girl with a tic tac between her legs....... I hope they prove me wrong >,>

A little late to the party, but I'm glad to see more Vocaloid releases. Although I much prefer Luka's design, I'm eager to see what volks does with the twins. Hopefully, Len will be the test of how well recieved a boy DD would be. If he's quite well done, I can see them naming him DD Brother (to coincide with DDS) and then releasing Kaito maybe the year after next. I hope what prompted Volks to look into this is Danny Choo's Smart Doll boy. They seem to be garnering a lot of attention from around the world so hopefully this has been a bit of a wake-up call for dear old Volks. Maybe now they might change their target market from "otaku males" to "otaku males and females" and realise that girls love DD too. That being said, I can totally see them letting us all down and just including Len's clothes and wig with Rin. Even if it's purey from a fiscal side, since the characters are twins people will be willing to buy two in order to have both and they don't need to make a whole new body.

 

Aside from Volks (possibly) hitting the nail on the head with Len, I'm glad to see more outfits for Miku. It seems as though she and the Idolm@ster girls will be Volks' new cash cow. Which is perfectly fine with me as long as they release Luka ^^

Really good point, Torino. I've noticed the increase in animes for girls (full of pretty boys) and all the high quality figures of said pretty boys, that we haven't really seen in the past. I'm so glad we have more than crud like Junjou Romantica now. Maybe Volks is realizing that this is the way things are changing and it's better to change with it than to be stuck in the past. They have been updating their aesthetic with their other dolls over the years-- compare the old Saber with a recent girl like Kirika--Kirika's face up is a lot more like the face-ups you see artists on YJ do.

 

I have to say I really can't imagine Volks releasing Rin and Len as "Rin + Len's outfit/wig". No one who wants Rin and Len is going to be content displaying just one twin at a time, or buying two sets and having extra Rin outfit/wig. It's like "We're releasing Rin and Len! ...Not! Lol it's just Rin, the girl one"

I'd even say it's a little hard to imagine Volks releasing a male character on a female body, it would be very lazy for them, who usually put a lot of effort crafting character dolls.

I'm also hoping they eventually make Kaito. I don't follow the Vocaloid fandom very closely, but I think he'd make such a cute DD. I can clearly visualize how he'd look.

You know, in terms of my doll collection, I don't really purchase doll because of the character.

I get them by the versatile look.

 

I mean, when DD Miku is released , I don't have to purchase her in order to have her. I can always find outer market for her outfits to fit on my other DDs.

 

That's why, when the news came up, even if they going to have Luka in future, I won't get so hype until I get to see her looks, is she the sculpt that I really like and fit enough to be in other looks, not because she's Luka character herself.

Same on Luka, although if they do her I have 2 hopes: 1 being they put her on the DDDy body, 2 being that they put her in her V4X outfit for default. I wouldn't mind if they did her original outfit, but I'd love to see them pull off her most recent version's outfit. And if they do an optional outfit for her, maybe either this one (Giving link because the name of it isn't coming to mind atm) or her outfit from Just Be Friends, along with the other standard outfit that they didn't use for the original fullset outfit.

 

I'd also love it if they could do Mayu, but they probably wouldn't since there are characters more popular than she is at the moment who'd be more likely to get dolls. :/

I personally thought that Volks was basing their sculpt of Miku off of the Project Diva games due to the wide eye shape, but when Miku came out she looked to me like she literally jumped out of the screen and into the real world!! Thus pushing me to buy her XD

 

I do hope they continue to base them from the OPs (if they did/are) as Len and Rin's designs there are obviously similar but differ just enough to make him a touch more masculine. Seeing them as DDS is a personal hope for me, and with enough sales for Len, hopefully an extend to regular DD with KAITO.

 

Also I can totally see Luka as a DD with L bust as a DD And maybe MEIKO with Dy body? Haha, maybe in my dreams.

It didn't occur to me that Volks had based Miku off her Project Diva version, but if they do the same for Rin there's a chance she might have a ':3' kind of face, and if she does that would absolutely kill me, I LOVE cute smiley faces on dolls. I can't say for sure until I see her of course but I really think it's likely Rin might be my first DD!

I second this 1,000 times over. Every time Volks posts a pic inside one of their stores on Twitter, I have to look the whole thing over just in case something pops up. So far no luck. I'd be able to calm down a bit if we just knew if they would be preorders or not...

I just remembered something, speak of their preorders. The Volks Holiday DD Lottery is coming up, and so far they have yet to announce the dolls they're using this time around, same goes for preorders for Len and Rin. So what if...

 

The preorders for them were the Holiday Lottery?

 

I'm guessing they probably wouldn't do that since last year it was an already released doll (Idk the history behind the Holiday Lottery but I'm pretty sure they haven't done preorders through that previously), but somehow I could still see them doing something like that.

My extreme hope is that the Crypton Vocaloids are a big enough deal that Volks would know that they would rake in the cash if they were preorders. If not... Aftermarket here I come. Basically I have no choice in getting the twins, even with knowing that the aftermarket prices are killer... but with 2 coordinating DD in fullsets. I really shudder thinking how much that potentially would cost. Even if I had to pay my worst-case scenario price (5k altogether) I'd bitch and complain and be upset about it, but I'd do it anyway. This is Rin & Len. There is no question of if, there is only the question of how soon.

The latest Volks News will coming out very soon (within next 2 weeks most likely)

 

This should have details of the new dolls for the upcoming lottery at Christmas and probably the new pre-order project. The pre-order project will probably be Rin & Len. I'd be shocked if it wasn't.

One of the dolls for the Christmas lottery will probably be Takane from Idolmaster as she was announced several months back.
