Maybe you can explain the appeal of them, because I sure don't get it.

Stacks and stacks of Snow Whites? Maybe the MDD or other small figures could be the dwarfs. Ugh. The thought of that made the image of Rainie asking me for a beard popped into my mind. Correction, another beard. I feel bad enough that I keep our floating heads in clear plastic shoe boxes to keep them clean, but even to me those clear cases seem more than a little weird.

I didnt realise you needed a japanese address for the Dollpa preorders. (...) And on that note, I wonder what the odds are for the Japanese lottery versus the International lottery? They're separate lotteries, right?

I'm glad that you made the point about Nagoya not necessarily being accessible to the Japanese either, since it's one single event in one single city. I had thought it would go without being said, but no, it definitely needed to be said ^_^;. For many Japanese, the cost of a bullet train and hotel just to go to Dolpa would equal or exceed the YJA or Mandarake price premium for the doll anyway, so they may as well just buy it secondhand if they're not local to Nagoya. Assuming that the only reason for the trip was to preorder. So, yeah, it's a lucky few that can preorder at dolls party, but most Japanese are in the same lottery boat as the international customers for Rin/Len. Let's all empathize with each other .

Yeah, ever since Asuna - who wasn't finished in time for Tokyo Dolpa and had to be ordered there - Volks has restricted all doll orders made inside Japan to be shipped to Japanese addresses. It was a big shock for Asuna people who went to Dolpa, but since then it's become standard. Now, if someone were to go to Nagoya... that's not to say you couldn't Tenso your doll. That's a Japanese address.

You'd just have to make sure your Tenso address was registered to your Volks VS/VIP card, since they only ship dolls to your registered address (if you put your card number down on the form).

The odds of the Japanese-side online lottery are just as crappy as the Volks international one, if not crappier. My JP online entries batted .000 for the three years I lived in Japan. There was not a single win - which sounds just like other people on this forum who have got zero wins from the international lottery over the same time period!

The better option is to go to stores in person and enter via the form. All I have is anecdotal evidence to support the claim, but I did win half the time I used store lottery. (Win: SD Charlotte, DDdy Sasara v2 / Lose: SD Liselotte / DD Rin T. v2).

I was wondering if doing it at the store changed the odds any. I thought I might be able to do both but reading the fine print it's against the rules and could get my account banned. Anyway thankfully Fu kuoka has a Volks store so I'll enter there. Even if it doesn't change a thing, the extra ceremony to it is like a good luck charm lol. (Plus it's an excuse to visit the store again and those are always good)

Granted I've been through all the stages of grief already:

Denial: what? NO, this is a mistake. Volks can't make them lottery. They CANT.

Anger: what the %^*{}*{# is wrong with you, Volks?! Don't you WANT money?!

Bargaining: is there someone who can go to Dollpa for me and I pay them when I get paid 2 weeks after?! What if I lived on instant ramen and rice for my first month in Japan so I have enough for the bullet train to Nagoya and the upfront cost? Is this doable?!

Depression: the odds of winning the lottery are slim at best....she's going to cost me so much on the aftermarket, oh god...

Acceptance: Oh well, she's my robodauger after all. It'll be worth it.

So I guess Volks are giving me their official 'welcome to the hobby' I feel better about it now, and at least I'm not gonna have to worry about proxy fees if I get her on auction. Can't wait to see her in person! :')

So I might have purchased a Len online under the logic of "I'll use my credit card and this is the only good price I'll probably ever see for him".

And then the seller listed another one for sale after I bought him. So now I'm wondering if they're just going to send other staff to the event to also purchase or if I did something very bad. Said seller has awesome feedback and exchanged messages with me about how they're going to get it, so I'm assuming they're just sending other staff/family to get extras....

If he has great feedback and you even communicated with him, then I assume that they're just sending more people to get more Lens ^^;

Yeah I'm sure I'm fine. ^^ thanks for helping ease my mind though, I'm overly excited.

If anyone is worried about not winning the lottery but is determined to get one, I would probably suggest buying a pre order. It's a lot, but I have a feeling the actual after market price will be even more.

Since I asked the seller a question before, they sent me an email letting me know that the 1st doll was sold but that they would *probably* get 2 dolls of each character and explained to me how they are going to get them....now I think that they put another one for sale because of me >_< it's so cool that they are willing to help! they also mentioned that getting the catalog and tickets is extra money so they aren't really charging that much!

Oh my God...what to do?? >_<

I feel like they are trustworthy because of their good feedback and fast responses. What irks me is that all the time they called Len "Rin sama". I don't want Rin, I want Len

Congrats on getting him!!

Well there were no Kagamines at volks's booth at AX, but I did get to talking to the manager of the USA branch and he said they're trying to arrange a US event for them but there's no guarantee yet. I hope he's able to convince them.

While talking to him I also brought up most of the concerns US customers have made in this thread. I also showed him the forums as I felt it would be wise to keep an eye on public opinion especially with all of this happening. He didn't seem to have been aware of it until now and after I showed him he showed it to a guy who was apparently head of dollfie dream related things specifically.

What I said can be summed up like this. Volks needs to get it together and start listening to customers more as well as branching out to their international audience which is larger, and has more influence than they're given credit for. I fear that with their current practices and the coming competition of Smart Dolls they might start taking a hit. I won't lie I have more respect for Danny and his company than I do for volks currently, and I'm trying my best to love them but when getting one of their products direct from them is nearly impossible without cheating or aftermarket madness, and then that product has issues (like default clothes that stain the doll, subpar quality wig fibers that aren't heat resistant despite that being the standard for wigs these days, and clothes or wigs falling apart due to them not knotting their threads thoroughly.) that likely won't be addressed properly (by volks international anyways) even if you got it straight from them... It gets hard to appreciate them. I love the dolls themselves and the stuff that comes with them can be fantastic, or it can have problems. I could live with that if it weren't for the fact that they're so negligent of the demand for their products, making them stupidly hard to get a hold of.

Sorry for any rambliness and the long paragraphs. Mobile is not being kind to me at the moment.

One thing I do have to say in the defense about the heat-resistant wigs: from the research I've done that there is more color variety in the non-heat-resistant fibers. With having characters that require specific colors I'm not surprised that Volks goes with the more varied color option. Perhaps I haven't looked in the right places, but I have yet to find "Tamayuki" gray or "Hana" blond, but I can easily find neon colors.

I appreciate you binging this up with someone at Volks. Often we come to grouch at the forums I think because it feels like Volks refuses to listen. Simply not feeling like you are heard creaes bitterness and over time drives a wedge between the company and customers. For those new to the hobby it can be a real shock and make the company seem unrelyable. For those of us who have been in the hobby a few years it is simply disheartening that Volks is still doing the same things they have always done, never explaining a thing so we can know what to anticipate. My husband and I have put literally thousands into this hobby because of how much we cherish the work that Volks does, but does it even matter to them? Ever? From the way the have treated the Kagamines, it surely doesn't feel like it.

Congrats on getting him!!

Thank you! I guess I get why that bothers you, they fixed the listing probably after you brought it up. I also asked them why it said they were shipping at the end of October and they told me they misread and changed that too. They probably just made the listing too fast, but their feedback is pretty flawless so I don't feel bad. Just confirm that you're getting the boy with them? I didn't see where they mentioned the wrong name so you're probably safe ^^

Ebay! Someone listed their pre order spot. I've only seen two of each though. There are a few on yahoo Japan auctions too but I think after proxy fee and shipping that price is gonna be way higher than the eBay listing.

After getting their confirmation that a friend is going to get the doll for me (and they're getting the one for the first buyer, for you I believe! ) they said it is not *probably* anymore! and that they were just waiting for me to buy him. They also made sure to call him by the right name and put my worries at ease by calling him "Len" and "the boy doll", I gave in and purchased him

I've been waiting for this doll since I heard the news for the first time. I'm seriously interested in him so it will VERY devastating for me to lose the lottery and since I have never won a lottery from Volks, I couldn't miss this opportunity. >_<

I have dealt with proxy fees before and EMS shipping is not cheap so getting it from Y!J wouldn't have been cheaper than getting it from ebay. I think we got a pretty good deal! I will still enter the lottery because one of my friends who said they were going to help fell in love with Len. She's not a doll collector but it's never too late to start being one!

In my case, I plan on selling his clothes, wig and accessories. I'm just interested in the body, head and eyes. I will also give him a new face up. I'm already making plans I feel so relieved and happy right now!

You guys are seriously tempting me, given that the one on yahoo auctions is pretty much exactly how much Rin would cost for me if I -did- go to Nagoya and back for her. Still wondering if I should sacrifice most of my living expenses for this and be super frugal until the 20th when I get paid but still not sure even if that's gonna be enough But I wont know until at least a week before the event (nor actually be in Japan and thus able to pay any of the convenient Japanese ways ie convenience store) and they might not have the proxy dollpa orders up on yahoo anymore by then. I really wish I could just see into the future how much she's gonna cost on aftermarket to make this easier for me lol. I keep flipflopping between 'do all you can to get that guaranteed preorder or you'll regret it' or 'just suck it up and pay aftermarket, you'll have enough money by then'. Maybe I'm just extra paranoid but I also worry about her being super hard to find once the aftermarket dolls do start to appear and that every time I try to get one, even at an outrageous price, someone else will beat me to it.

I should probably just chill lmao.

Torino: I feel you : ( I went through the same predicament. "Should I buy it now? or have faith in the lottery? will the aftermarket prices be better later than now? would he be harder to get later?"

All I can say is trust in your instincts. If you can make it to the event that would be great!! since buying it now from Y!J would make things difficult for you. I hope you can figure out what to do and that it will be for the better.

I hesitated a lot before making my decision but I felt so relieved later. There are no regrets in my heart even if Volks offers a pre order for them in the future. I had to make some sacrifices and cancelled some plans (I will probably not go out for a long time haha). The good thing is that I recently sold a doll so I had some savings for Len already.

I wish everyone good luck in getting them!

Torino: I think that some people are planning to enter both lotteries even if they only want Rin OR Len, and they are planning to sell the one they don't want to help them buy the one they DO want. Plus I think that right after the winning emails are sent out, people will be wanting to sell their excess dolls here at the forum. That's how I got my Mio Honda at retail! The seller was eager to sell her. Plus, there are always people who decide they just can't afford to keep the dolls and sell them as soon as they arrive.

galatia9 Oh, I've been meaning to ask that. So any lottery order is treated as separate after all? If I entered for Rin AND Len, I could win both, either or none? That's what I wasn't sure about, and if each doll lottery is separate it's probably best I enter for both and if I win Len and not Rin I could look for someone willing to trade. I just assumed if I entered for both I'd either win both or neither and it would be treated as a single entry.

I believe we are able to enter for both! It's been a while since I've entered a lottery, but I think that's the case. You just can't enter more than once for each doll.

That's why I pointed out in the other thread that we should email them and let our oppinions be heard. The way they responded they seemed to be at least open to hearing what customers have to say.
