BeyondTime Posted September 18, 2016 The Len in that video has a more boyish face than the DD Len, at least to my eyes. His much more boyish hairstyle in that video helps his image to be more masculine. I have paid no attention to the Vocaloids musically. My entire character concept for Miku - that of a princess who thinks the entire world revolves around her - comes from photo stories I've seen here on the forum. Just looking up a few videos to see what her voice is like I did kind of like this one. Their voices really are high pitched. I once read that Japanese women are expected to have very high pitched voices. Consequently women who work in any sort of job that involves speaking are expected to force their voices into a higher range than is natural for them. No idea if that is true, but if it is then it might explain a bit about Miku's voice. The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be. “Empty wallets, full hearts.” That’s probably an apt description for the effects of DD addiction
SisterKyoya Posted September 18, 2016 I was just seeing volks jp twitter and it says they will be releasing rin and len Senbonzakura dress sets. They talk about how they re-painted their face to fit their outfits better. Does this mean they will sell len again? I don't know but we can hope. I don't ever recall Volks saying they redid a faceup like that so soon after the original, but that could just be me not being able to read much Japanese. My entire character concept for Miku - that of a princess who thinks the entire world revolves around her Yup, that's pretty much right. The Diva in Project Diva is Miku. She has like half of the stuff you can unlock in the game. Much to my annoyance. Their voices really are high pitched. I really regret listening to that with my tablet's crapy speakers... it wasn't loud but the pain started to be noticable between my eardrum and my throat near the end. Raven told me that he read somewhere that when the songs were originally made for the concerts that the artists admitted that they didn't know how to tune her, and why she's so 'rough.' I don't know if it's true or not, but it's easy for me to believe. The biggest thing I really hate about Miku is people forcing her to be a high soprano when she's very obviously a mezzo soprano. Combining that with someone who knows how to tune her and you end up with songs like and . If I had started out hearing this version of Miku I wouldn't have hated her with a raging passion for years. As it is anymore, I see Miku more like a friend that acts like a big sister to the twins. Even our 'mild mannered' Miku still likes to pull strings. Very shortly after she got here she started dropping hints about the twins ad how she missed them... And now it's gotten so bad that even Raven said last night that the hints from here were getting loud enough for him to complain at her. ~Sister Kyoya Forum Blog: Badger Pocket Tales (Family story from the beginning) | { Old Family story reboot: Start Here! } Follow me on Twitter, Flickr & Instagram
Monty Posted September 19, 2016 I was just seeing volks jp twitter and it says they will be releasing rin and len Senbonzakura dress sets. They talk about how they re-painted their face to fit their outfits better. Does this mean they will sell len again? Random thinking~ ...can you link this, because I can't find it anywhere and kind of doubt it's true. They never did that for Miku. The Senbonzakura sets do come with eyes though. I agree its a bit weird with Rin as in all the Senbonzakura art her face is like where her regular DD face is but this just doesn't seem likely to me. Are you sure it was the official volks Twitter or just someone saying they would do it themselves? (Or worse, google translate, which seems to exist entirely to confuse non-Japanese readers. Re: Miku's voice I'm a bit confused at 'the people who made the songs for the concert couldn't tune her'. Not many songs were made especially for the concerts, they are usually composed of a bunch of classic and recently popular songs made by a variety of people. Vocaloid songs are made by anybody, not one group. I own Kaito's software, -I- could make a Kaito song tomorrow that gets featured in a concert next year. By that I just mean it's possible, of course it's not likely though because I have almost no musical sense at all and am not good at using him. But one of the top songs of 2014, Echo (featuring Gumi) was made by an (at the time) 18-19 American girl who goes by CrusherP who started making vocaloid music as a hobby. The only reason Echo hasn't been in concerts or games is because it uses Gumi, who isn't one of the main cryptonloids the concerts and games feature. As for Miku's voice, it completely depends on the tuning how good or bad it sounds and all producers have their signature style. To be honest, I don't like the way Ryo (who did World is Mine, which was the song people usually get introduced to Vocaloid with which is a shame to me as its really not a great example even though I do still kinda like the song) tunes Miku at all. Then there's producers like MitchieM who make her sound amazingly realistic. The song you linked is by wowaka, and his signature Miku is VERY high pitched but it fits with the strange and confusing feeling that his songs have, i.e. its on purpose, and it's meant to make you feel slightly uneasy (wowaka's songs are kind of weird like that). Miku does sound bad when she talks, but that's because she's not meant to talk, her software is for singing so her 'speaking' always sounds bizarre unless you have God-level tuning. Which whoever did the tuning for that new hair product commercial very obviously does not. And there are definitely producer that make her sing too high. The thing is, Miku does sound strange to native Japanese people and I wish people wouldn't forget that. To non-otaku types (i.e., most Japanese people) her voice is unnaturally high - and this is even in a culture of put-on high voices. But I personally don't think Miku -should- sound realistic, her signature voice and roboticness is part of her unique charm to me. Besides, if I wanted a deeper voiced female vocaloid there's plenty of others like Luka or Iroha. (Miku append, v3 and v4 also have deeper voice banks available) *twitter*instagram*art*

elianti Posted September 19, 2016 Worlds End Dancehall! It's actually one of my favorite songs by Wowaka, along with Unhappy Refrain. His cacophonous style is fun to listen to sometimes. xD One of the things that makes Vocaloid music really distinctive to me is just the variety. Producers are free to make songs as technically difficult to sing as they want and Vocaloids will be able to handle it without a problem. Of course a lot of additional good tuning would make the end result a lot more realistic-sounding(my jaw dropped the first time I heard MitchieM's FREELY TOMORROW, LOL), but sometimes the more robotic voices work better for particular songs, like in The Disappearance of Hatsune Miku. I admit I've been pretty out of the Vocaloid loop for a while now though. I never played any of the Project Diva games, and when I was most invested in Vocaloid music I was more into the utattemita part of the fandom that sang covers of songs, so to me the Vocaloid characters themselves are the 'original artists' with their personalities being completely up to the people making and listening to their music. If anything, I see the Kagamine twins as mischievous, cheeky (but lovable!) little devils, but I'm probably influenced by their seiyuu's performance of the twins in im@s too much. ^^""

Monty Posted September 19, 2016 I'm still not seeing where you read that. The faceups dont look different to me - the weird lighting makes Rin look weirdly pale but other than that they only look different because they have different eyes and a different wig, those come with the set. The text mentions that the Senbonzakura set gives them a different feel/impression (and I mean, what doll doesnt give you a different impression if you change their wig/eyes/outfit), it says nothing about their faces being redone, not even for a promotional shoot. (Besides, like I said, if they were going to redo Rin's face specifically for this outfit then it wouldnt be to another smiley one. Her trademark Senbonzakura face is extremely deadpan.) *twitter*instagram*art*

Anywho, I fell head over heels the 1st time I came across Miku. And that's just gotten deeper and deeper, so much so I bought a doll! Sigh. As for her voice, yes, it can be high, but that doesn't bother me as I like highs and lows. My problem is there are very few speakers in the wild (As in ones on computers and phones and tablets.) that can properly reproduce the frequencies to sound good, which is why I listen mostly through my home theater, and my old car when it had a custom system in it (I really need to get around to upgrading my current car, oh how I miss the system.). This is actually pretty common in the BJD community. Male sculpts as girls and girl sculpts as boys. It is even easier to do with DD sculpts because young boys in anime look very similar to the anime girls and vice versa. Sometimes all it requires is a change of wig. I have done this with all my DDs and a few BJDs, even my SD boys would look so good as girls as I tend to lean towards the pretty boy aesthetic. I have seen someone on DOA with the most amazing girls I have ever seen and the majority are originally male sculpts. So yeah, everything is possible! BeyondTime Posted September 20, 2016 I have seen someone on DOA with the most amazing girls I have ever seen and the majority are originally male sculpts. So yeah, everything is possible! This is one of my favorites. Omg.. Len makes a pretty cute girl too (If thats really a Len) It does appear to be a Len. The face shape is right, but I think the mouth has been modded. Someone with a Len would be able to say for sure, but it looks to me like her mouth appears to be wider than the default. They are selling that head with the eyes on YJA. It's tempting, but looking at the photos on YJA I think the mouth mod gives her upper lip a bit of an unpleasant curl. I probably shouldn't be so critical. It's a pretty awesome custom. She does look really good on the DIII M Bust, but I think I'd rather buy a Len head and have one of the forums face up artists give "her" a new face. The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? It's really hard to tell what the original looks like from the Volks photos because none of them give a really good view of the mouth. I just noticed the custom has fake eyelashes too. It is an impressive custom job. For the value of the head, eyes, plus the face-up it seems like a pretty good deal. The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Monty Posted September 27, 2016 Are the results posted based on your time, or jpn time? GMT+9, which is Japan time. Always Japan time. More precisely the results are out over a period of 5 days (sep 28 to october 2), presumably because a) it takes a while to notify every winner and b) gotta draw out that suffering as much as possible. But it makes me wonder how they're calculated. My original mental image was two pools that they draw a bunch of entries out of, but now I'm wondering if, at least for the japanese pool, they draw a certain amount of entries for each store. Then again that could easily skew results in favour of people who entered via stores with less traffic (coff Fu kuoka) - althought it would explain the 'rumour' that odds are better if you enter at a physical store (not that this can be proven, but...) Maybe I'm just overthinking this (definitely) but I really wish there was some insight as it's all I can think of at the moment...After all, while I entered for Len as a backup for someone else, if a miracle occurs and we both win I've decided to keep him. Anyway, results start rolling out tomorrow - dont know if they do the japan pool first and then the international one or if they do them both simultaneously, and I know this comes across as a hollow gesture for something like a lottery where not everyone can win, so instead of saying good luck...
