Mimiyo3 Posted September 10, 2015 (edited) I was browsing bjd confessions and saw this. Just, WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL??? I bring my girls to cons I watch them like a hawk but even so, if some jerk made off with them I'd be devastated. How can you think it's okay to steal something that isn't only expensive but that likely means a lot to that person and even further say that people are being judgmental?? Jesus Christ... To whoever that person is, you're an entitled, selfish, piece of crap. No one should ever tolerate you with that kind of behavior and I hope we never meet. My girls mean the world to me and if something like this happened to me I'd be devastated. Just thinking about it is making me cry. I'm gonna go hold them now... That alone scares me, that someone actually finds nothing wrong with it. Present! Cauldroness Posted September 10, 2015 Plus, you know they have to have stolen a custom doll. If it were a default, they'd easily be able to claim it wasn't the stolen doll and that they'd acquired it through some other method. It's pretty much impossible to tell the difference between most default dolls, especially in photos where you can't examine close-up details. Only a custom doll would be instantly recognized as a stolen doll. So they had to steal a doll that someone put the time and effort into customizing -- a doll that probably has deep personal meaning to the real owner. Never have I been more proud to be a "judgmental beep-beep," because I am definitely judging the heck out of that person. 1 Doll Photos & Doll Jewelry Sales: Follow me on Instagram! I try not to judge, but when someone is being a selfish jerk who's throwing others under the bus for their own benefit then I do judge them like all hell. Thespian Posted September 10, 2015 I read up on those blogs from time to time (mostly for the cute ones and to keep up-to-date on shady business owners), but I see things like this occasionally. This is really sad and makes it hard for me to bring my girl (and previous resins) to cons. That said, I'm also half-certain that this is a troll confession meant to rile everyone up. At least, I hope it is, because otherwise they are a very terrible person. They're still a jerk regardless, but I like to think no one lost a doll to them. needsmorelace Posted September 10, 2015 If this is true, I kinda hope, after the doll is returned, that the person falls into a wood chipper. I have to agree with above statements, anyone who steals a custom in this hobby is practically kidnapping someone's child. Not quite the same, but close. I bring my girls but I'm not all alone and I always have them either with me holding them or with someone I trust holding them. It'd be difficult to snatch and run under those cirbleepstances and also when I have to I can run extremely fast as well as me being almost 6' tall and pretty strong makes me a less likely target. Plus once my third girl is done things will get easier because then I can take just one girl instead of both because I feel bad leaving one at home all alone. It's silly, I know. Present! No one is better than anyone else so don't act like it. Treat people how you would like to be treated. Well put! If this is a real confession all I can hope is that at some point they either confess to a friend or they somehow realise by themselves how wrong this is. Personally it just looks like one step beyond buying recasts... The "I want it so I don't care about causing harm" attitude just amplified.
pharaviel Posted September 10, 2015 In my opinion this reads more like a trolling (I would say a fervent anti recast person) that wants to make the point that recast is stealing and everyone that does that ask not to be judged for them. Looks like more drama and wanting to make a point that a real confession to me. That said, if the confession was true, that person would need to be put to jail or social work. Not for the doll theft that isn't a big crime, but because it doesn't show any kind of remorse or accepting that he/she made a crime against the law.

Mimiyo3 Posted September 10, 2015 I get there's a good chance it's a troll, but I have met people who think this way so I suppose it isn't impossible. Present! Cauldroness Posted September 10, 2015 And it's not like doll theft doesn't happen. The most well-known instance is when several Volks one-off dolls were stolen from a NY Dolpa, and those dolls have never been recovered. Doll Photos & Doll Jewelry Sales: Follow me on Instagram! Gunter Posted September 10, 2015 And it's not like doll theft doesn't happen. The most well-known instance is when several Volks one-off dolls were stolen from a NY Dolpa, and those dolls have never been recovered. Should mention that they also had a "confession" from said person who "supposedly" stole those dolls claiming that they did it and...I don't remember the rest. I just remember them talkin' 'bout being afraid to bring them out, etc, etc, etc. I'm pretty damn sure this is simply a troll confession, most likely just like the one related to the NY Dopla. I don't give these any attention cause really? It is just mostly exhausting to freak out about what is clearly, and totally just there to simply upset you. @Pharaviel And I have no clue how you deducted anti-recast from that lol. That's reading far too in between the lines methinks. While I think recasts are stealing, I don't see that. Maybe from the last part? But man, it is all so just >troll< that I feel like reading into it is too much work.
migi Posted September 10, 2015 That's SO terrible ! I always think about claiming a stolen or damaged doll off house insurance... I usually wonder how I would go about explaining what a Dollfie/BJD etc was and how much they're worth to someone on the other end of a phone who has no clue about the hobby ʕ·ᴥ·ʔ surrounded by cuteness ʕ·ᴥ·ʔ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀At home: Yukino ⠀⠀⠀Waiting: Custom 06 head ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Flickr | Instagram
babytarragon Posted September 10, 2015 Some one off Lati dolls were also stolen recently. They were uniquely cast in pink skin so if they ever pop up it'll be clearly the same dolls. I've also had doll stuff (though not any whole dolls) stolen from a table when I was exhibiting at a convention, so it's not unheard of.

Nah, actually I read it that way too. It sounds so much like the "I bought a recast but I'm scared people will judge me for it, can't well all just love dolls?" type comments I see around. I think someone's taking a confession like that and replacing "recast doll" with "physically stolen doll" to prove a point. foo Posted September 10, 2015 Yeah, to me this seems more useful as a troll post. Anti-recast for one, the fact that stealing is stupid for another. It's like, great! You stole a doll. And you can never show it to anyone except fellow twits

Sorry if this was just kind of annoying of me to post, I just don't really put it past someone to think this way. I've seen that level of entitlement and the idea of my girls getting stolen is really scary to me. Even though this is most likely a troll, there are doll thieves so keep your girls close. Present! Mimiyo3 Posted September 11, 2015 I think you made good sharing this, it's food for thought. Yeah, I guess that's true. I don't think a genuine person would say it like this, (At least I hope not) But there are people who think this way and while the community in this hobby as a whole is very friendly and kind, we shouldn't leave our girls unattended ever when in a public setting. Even if someone doesn't know these there are people who will just make off with anything of interest they see. One thing I've noticed with this community is how easy it is to let your guard down. Same goes for at cons at least in my case because I frequently get stopped for pictures and have everyone tell me how cool and cute they both are. Everything just gets so friendly that I have to really stay on top of myself to look at things with just a bit of caution. If you get carried away you might not see something as fishy, or even make yourself vulnerable to generally being taken advantage of. Not that we should all be hyper alert everywhere, but we should always keep an eye out. Present! Yukamina Posted September 11, 2015 I can't fathom the mindset of someone who would steal a doll, but there are all sorts of people out there :/ The only times I'll leave my doll in a public setting are if someone I trust is watching them while I'm gone.
