SisterKyoya Posted September 11, 2015 I have a question to ask because I'm completely stumped. For those of you who plan on buying the Smart Doll boy, what kind of t-shirt designs would you want for your boy? I'm not looking for suggestions of existing designs to remake, but what sort of different subjects would they be interested in? Ralph keeps suggesting aliens and other weird things, Tama (who will never even use that body) says to put dinosaurs on everything and Lucas has been a lot more helpful but his 'artsy fartsy' designs are a lot harder to describe. I draw a lot of cartoons (that can easily be seen on Naiomi's Closet) but that doesn't mean I can't do more detailed/serious stuff. One example is this. The whole image was made from scratch in Photoshop & Illustrator. I generally don't do more complicated artwork because I don't know what to do. I have yet to find where my artistic limits are with the right motivation and purpose. I really don't plan on posting a ton of pics before Eiji's release of what I'm working on, but since the t-shirt pattern I'm doing is very different than the DD versions I've already done I didn't want that to be the basis of an assumption of what I'm capable of. There was a specific reason why the DD shirts are so blocky but I often feel like it is a bad representation of my actual ability. I am doing my absolute best to make the SmDB for Naiomi's Closet be as awesome as possible, even if I suffer much agony and frustration during the process. Ralph: "That bush is a perfect hiding spot for a rabid jackalope." Personally I do prefer the velcro opening backs of how I normally do the shirts, but I figured that most people would want normal t-shirts. I'm so pleased at how form fitting it is, but at the same time that's a bit of the problem. The waist is so narrow that the SmDB arms and hands have to be removed (along with the head) to put the shirt on. The waist will not fit over the wide shoulders and barely fits over the width of the bust. It took me ten very aggravating minutes to get his arms reattached because I couldn't find the socket to put them in. A less fitted waist or looser short sleeves would solve the problem (I intend to do both) but I did this shirt because getting it form-fitted like that isn't exactly easy. So starting with the most difficult patterns just makes the rest of the process easier and much faster. Input on the type of design themes you personally might be looking for would be much appreciated. ~Sister Kyoya Forum Blog: Badger Pocket Tales (Family story from the beginning) | { Old Family story reboot: Start Here! } Follow me on Twitter, Flickr & Instagram
Pumpkins Posted September 11, 2015 I apologize, I am not ENTIRELY sure what you are asking for but to buy shirts for SmD Boy I would definitely want casual shirts with designs and stuff on it you'd see on people walking around today. Thinking back though, many guys I see just wear basic white tees or basic tees with colored sleeves either short or long..Band tees maybe? OR plaid button-ups of different colors which is a different kind of shirt altogether i guess. Colored V-necks??? bababaloo Posted September 11, 2015 I would love big V opening t-shirt so we can see part of his muscles Like this: http://www.reemclothing.com/product_images/1092-ss12a.jpg For the color, I prefer simple things like Grey, Black, White,... with no dino, aliens,... But that's just me
Yukamina Posted September 11, 2015 For that orange shirt, starting from the chest down you can make it looser (and maybe a bit longer)... I like t-shirts to have creasing/draping in the torso, plus it'll be easier to put on! His back is so manly! Aha ha, my male dolls (CP/Luts Delf boys) don't have backs like that. Are you asking for what images to put on the shirts? My Etsy Shop ~~~ My DeviantArt
SisterKyoya Posted September 12, 2015 ...casual shirts with designs and stuff on it you'd see on people walking around today. Are you asking for what images to put on the shirts? *points to the quotes* This is the type of info I was asking for. I was wondering about what sort of pictures/graphics to put on the shirts, not the fit or cut. Here are some design examples: Or even more silly stuff like this... Basically I've just been wondering about what might be of interest aside from single color shirts. (I don't own any of these designs.) The shirt that Ralph is wearing was made to test the pattern from one of Raven's old shirts. The fabric I can get from Spoonflower isn't nearly this thick. This however is one of my designs that I did a few years ago, long before Zazzle had full image shirts available. I made a version of this (with a background print, not the white) for Ralph before he grew again so now it doesn't fit. I'm definitely going to do basic colored shirts, but I personally like the novelty t-shirts. That's also why I was asking what people might be interested in so I didn't spend time on something that didn't matter so much right now. For that orange shirt, starting from the chest down you can make it looser (and maybe a bit longer)... I like t-shirts to have creasing/draping in the torso, plus it'll be easier to put on! Doing a form fitted shirt like this was the hardest so I started with it, that does not mean that there won't be other variations. Ralph is very much a loose shirt kind of guy. The basis of this pattern can be modified for all sorts of tops, I could even modify it into a wetsuit. Plus the thickness of the fabric is out of scale so it doesn't drape right and the wrinkles at his wrists aren't as subtle as they should be. Boys fashion is much more difficult than girls >3> Boys..are so basic...*mumbles* At first I thought that too, and it could be true for guys that only wear jeans and t-shirts. But once you figure in formal wear, all sorts of uniforms, suits, seasonal clothes, historical outfits, costumes, even just the differences between western/American clothing and Japanese, there actually is a ton to choose from. Even 'just' a t-shirt can have quite a few variations that affect the overall look. I've been surprised at how interesting I've found this whole project because it has seriously forced me to see what the real differences are between men and women's clothes. ~Sister Kyoya Forum Blog: Badger Pocket Tales (Family story from the beginning) | { Old Family story reboot: Start Here! } Follow me on Twitter, Flickr & Instagram
Pumpkins Posted September 12, 2015 I can only think of like shirts with band names on them or something. One's with "cool" designs that...okay tbh you may get more milage just going to popular mens tee stores online. I am trying to think of all the guys i see on campus and honestly cant recall a single thing about any of their shirts besides style or cut..wow! I guess i gotta stare at guys much more if i want to be of any help! We saw the world as children The field filled with light When did we stop believing The things before our sight? Monty Posted September 15, 2015 Since I really want a Kaito SDb I would like a design that would suit him - whether inspired by outfits from the Project Diva games or with some icecream motifs. An icecream-themed shirt would be cute on almost any doll, though. EDIT- Of the ones you posted I really dig that one with the rainbow squares! I'd love one like that, and also one with a more blue colour scheme. One that looks kind of 'digital' would be neat too. *twitter*instagram*art*
