kaylynh1 Posted October 17, 2011 I've seen this come up alot when i look at things concerning stains and dollfie dreams. What does the sun do to the vinyl that helps get rid of stains? being used to resin dollfies, sun being GOOD is a whole new concept to me At home: Carrie (kos-mos), Mia (miku),Bjd's: Creator (soom sard), riley (bobobie Apollo mod), Quinn (feeple 60 Chloe mod), Chloe (leekeworld tan mickhaila) Eventually: rise kujikawa, saber extra, mariko, alisa
mitsuki Posted October 17, 2011 I don't know exactly the mechanism, but sunlight activates or enhances the activity of benzoyl peroxide for removing stains. I have heard you should put the doll in indirect sunlight. I have also seen references calling for direct sunlight or artificial sunlight sources.
Halcyon Posted October 18, 2011 (edited) ... sunlight activates or enhances the activity of benzoyl peroxide for removing stains... Oh~ This is why I look up to Mitsuki! She's always so knowledgeable! Being the material it is - PVC (vinyl) may expand at high temperature, widening the pores of the vinyl skin and allowing for the stain removal, benzoyl peroxide or other stain remover, to sink in and do it's job more efficiently (or in this case - faster). However, I don't recommend leaving the treated part(s) in direct sunlight for long periods of time; it's bad for the vinyl in the long run and may not be good for the benzoyl peroxide agent depending on how hot the room temperature is + direct sunlight. The PVC turns yellow and brittle by sunlight over a very long period of time, +18 years (it may even be longer if Volks, Inc. added special ingredients to their vinyl like what they did with their resin). Compared to resin, vinyl yellows at a much slower pace, so... Don't sweat! If someone else insist... Then, well..., leaving a treated vinyl part in direct sunlight is okay in the short-run, but don't turn it into a habit. PS: Those "yellow'ed" dolls you see on Mandarake... their faces aren't really yellow. It's the make-up and poor lighting that's making the face looks dark (when compared to the body). Unless the owner or Mandarake is keeping those dolls in constant sunlight or a room filled with cigarette smoke, I can't see why the vinyl would yellow only after a couple years. Update Added Mitsuki's following input about smoke causing vinyl to yellow to my PS section. Halcyon Posted October 18, 2011 Smoke also yellows vinyl. I have seen some DDs yellow very noticeably from being in a smoking home. Thank you, Mitsuki, for pointing this out. Yes, DDs will turn yellow if kept in a smoking home, but the change in color itself is caused by a *series of stain - a bad one at that. *Hence, heavy smokers have yellow teeth. Smoke residues can cause yellow stains on the vinyl skin upon contact, so beware of smokers! Don't keep your Dollfie Dream® in a smoking environment for long periods of time! I wouldn't want to be in a smoking environment either~! We should really put all of these information into a guide. :3 DD 娘 - Dollfie Dream® Daughters {1} : DDS [ユ-ピィ] - Euphie
Talolili Posted October 18, 2011 Hmm, I heard that smoke is bad for vinyl. I don't smoke but members of my family do, they always get offended when I tell them not to smoke around my dolls, haha. I think I'll keep them in their boxes when they light up. Hopefully that'll protect them a bit, or I'll move them to another room.

I think I'll keep them in their boxes when they light up. Hopefully that'll protect them a bit, or I'll move them to another room. If I scared you, I apologize. I didn't mean to scare anyone. Regarding dolls in a smoking home, there's actually a few solutions that I know of, (hopefully me trekking in the off-topic zone for a little bit is acceptable here) The first one is... 1. Air Purifier Some air purifiers can filter out smoke and other kinds of chemical. Most air purifiers use HEPA filters. A HEPA air filters removes 99.97% of all particles greater than 0.3 micrometer from the air that passes through it, which means that in addition to smoke filtration you don't have to worry about dust, pollen, carpet fabric, or other small particles getting on your girls. Well, air purifier can be pretty elaborate since there are multiple types of filter to choose from (e.g. special filter that kills germs and viruses, filter that removes smoke and other kinds of chemical, and there's the HEPA filter). I'm not advertising, so don't quote me! 2. Display Case Display cases serve to keep airborne particles such as dust and pollen out (including smoke residue). Some display cases even stop UV from the sun! This is great because it's healthy for the vinyl skin. 3. Opened window A room with good air circulation will "kick" the smoke particles out. While it may not be the best solution, it helps for those that don't have an air purifier (if you have an air purifier, don't open the window and let the air purifier do its job). Putting your girl inside a well managed box and sealing the opening will help too (don't do this to real people though~ XD). If you have any more question, don't hesitate to send me a PM. Talolili Posted October 20, 2011 Thanks for the tips. When I first heard about it though I was scared, but I think my DD will be ok. A purifier sounds great though, it would be good for me and my doll. I can't stand smoke, it makes me sick to my stomach.
Deathmaw Posted October 25, 2011 In my room i have my blinds closed quite abit and the way my room faces i only get a tiny bit of sunlight at dawn. Well my DD still yellow over time?
mitsuki Posted October 25, 2011 I think she should be safe in indirect light. It is more the direct light that is risky.

battrastard Posted August 16, 2013 Firsthand, I'll admit I'm a smoker.... BUT, I don't smoke in the house. (or, others houses, if I'm at a meet) Also, I do wash my hands before doing anything DD related... (I get a bad enough rep just by smoking, I don't really want to aggravate the issue... although I am trying the electronic cig with some success.) "Madness takes it's toll, Please have exact change!"
