Parcelforce UK are crazy!!

Recommended Posts

JRuzzy

Hi Everyone....I need to vent...

I am sure some of you UK peeps have experience this...

I bought one wig and one set of eyes from volks totalling £35 including shipping to the UK...

Now i have just received a letter from parcelforce stating i have to pay...

ready?...

£142.25 to get my parcel....

I am literally gobsmacked... the import duty was £128.75...

honestly i cannot fathom this, so parcelforce can keep it for 20 days and send it back themselves, seriously the UK needs to sort its s**t out.

ugh!!!!

sorry lol

thanks for listening

HMRC messed up... But you can only appeal after paying, and I've never heard anyone get reimbursed.

I guess all you can do is refuse it and get them to return to Volks and get Volks to ship back to you.

I can't understand how they made this mistake... The parcel must have been about 8000Yen including postage, right? If they read this as GBP then the charges should have been about £2000, which obviously they weren't! Volks never mark down so the full amount would have been on the parcel.

Why they made this odd amount... And did no one at HMRC think it seemed odd to have £100+ on a small parcel marked 'hobby supplies'.

Biggest mischarge I've seen!!

All I can think is either Volks put the wrong value on the package or parcelforce is reading the wrong value. You need to contact them and demand to speak to someone who can confirm the price. If volks made an error then have it sent back and Volks will pay to have it reshipped, or pay and try get money back from parcelforce. If the error is with parcelforce and the package is returned to Volks then you'll have to pay shipping charges again to have it shipped out or they might give a partial refund but no promises there.

I've had a book shipped from japan and the yen value declared on it... fedex here in canada thought it was 8000$ They alll looked at me like I was crazy when I told the counter the driver can leave it on my porch.

Then the supervisor came out, looked at the waybill and almost smacked the guy at the computer.

That seems very excessive. As an example I've just picked up a delivery from my local depot that was shipped from Amiami, total cost including shipping was £105, and it was nearly half that (£47.88) to collect it due to import and handling charges, nothing like you've been charged. The annoying thing is that the handling cost could have been cut by £13.50 if they had been shipped together in one box as Parcelfarce charge on each item.

I agree with some of the others you need to call and demand to speak to someone higher up, then get them to tell you what cost the package is and ask what is listed as items in the box. I have to agree with others that somehow they are reading the wrong cost.. unless the UK is having some kind of lock down on imported items (I have no idea since I do not live in UK) but I have heard of some countries have HUGE mark-up custom fees for things they don't want you to import. I have never heard of it effecting Dollfie Dreams tho since they cannot be bought in an 'everyday' store =/

The problem is that the company the parcel is with now is only a delivery company, they have no involvement in the charges or even know how its calculated. And the only way to start up discussion with customs who set the charges is to pay the delivery company what they themselves paid to customs.

Yeah but the delivery company can still confirm the details on the package for you. If it's an error with Volks send it back, and if the error is with customs then pay the charges and you should be able to get a refund on them.

I managed to get through to someone and they said that there was nothing they could do wtf??!

so i told her she could keep it and ship it back.

I have now raised a reversal of funds through paypal and volks can do it once the items are returned.

basically not buying direct again lol

You raised a reversal of funds with Volks? I understand you're upset about the charges but the blame is likely to lie with HMRC, not Volks. It seems really unfair to make a claim against them which will freeze their account as well as cause other issues. You should have given them a chance to refund you. Imagine they were trying to release funds from their Paypal into their bank to pay employees etc, now their Paypal will be frozen.

I really feel like you attacked the wrong person in this.

Congratulations, now Volks will refuse to do business with you. Standard business practice for Japanese companies.

That's literally crazy ! I often wonder how customs fees are worked out here in the UK, since the figures definitely don't always add up to 20% + Clearance fee. Do you have a tracking number? If so, you can *usually* check how much a parcel was declared and insured for via http://www.trackitonline.ru -- In the past I've used it to check if companies have marked down items values if they have agreed to do so.

In the Netherlands you can complain about the customs fees AFTER you pay (sigh...)

but the fees in Europe are like this:

21% VAT over package value and shipping everything over "gift" value.

4,2% duty over package value and shipping because it's classified as "dolls/dollparts" (TARIC: 9503 00 21) applies to everything above 150 euro.

and handling costs (depends on local shipping company) In my case it's 17,50 euro.

non-helpful? You do realize normal product return practice is that you return the goods, and THEN get the money back right? By opening a paypal reversal you screw Volks over. I know people who have done it in the past and they had their accounts disabled.

A return is where you request the money back. Then they can process it normally.

Opening a PayPal claim is aggressively attempting to take the money back without allowing the company to process it as they need to. It also prevents them continuing their business normally until they return your money. Basically you're blackmailing them for something that isn't their fault.

Wow I think people need to calm down

Saying I'm being aggressive and using words like blackmail, seriously?

I've actually received a positive reply within the despite with volks on PayPal and they seem fine with

The goods being returned.

Yes, you made a dispute so they had to return the money then and there because they had no choice. Their whole account would be frozen.

How can you think that's OK?

They didn't do anything wrong as far as you know. You bought goods, they ship them, then they get a dispute opened against them! Really unreasonable behaviour.

I'm pretty sure that's not as severe as blackmail since it wasn't done with any malicious intent. She just wanted a refund, even if it wasn't done via the best method.

I still can't believe how much the custom charges were ! Hopefully you'll find out what happened

i haven't escalated it to a claim yet, it's just flagged and I have received a message from them stating that they would be happy to refund me. If I escalated it to a claim (which again I have not 'officially' yet) then they would have refunded me pending the goods being returned and their account frozen.

So please back off a bit, you're coming down on me and I haven't actually done anything to harm volks at all.

At the end of the day this thread was about parcelforce uk and the fact that for years they have been charging people here incredibly large amounts at customs and usually you can't appeal those. But if you'd like to use it as a means to carry on about how terrible I've been in asking volks that once the goods have been returned and stating why they would be, if they wouldn't mind refunding me, then I guess go ahead.

Thanks for your input, it's really helpful
