Need help to identify this body

so recently i saw this on our local convention..and eventually a friend bought it..we both thought it is a DD1 since it was strung..and it is resin...i've always though DD1 bodies are made of resins since they need to be strung (i just lately found out they are hard vinyls)..

upon searching some photos of DD1, they are actually different from the one we bought..the body we bought looks more like of the DD2 body, especially the mold on her knee caps..

but the confusing part is, this body has a sculpted lettering at the back of the torso( the same lettering you can see at the back of DD heads) that says "2004 volks japan".

also this body has yellowed a lot..

the string is hooked up to its foot and wrist.

i need to know if this is actually one of those super old volks dd bodies..as i can't find any other references about their old bodies..

I thought it could be a Super Dollfie Dream Mirai body because it is resin and the date is 2004.

Two Super Dollfie Dreams were released. They had a DD1 body cast in resin. One was tan and one was normal skin.

The link to the product page is broken now though:

You can see the knees don't match the photo you posted though.

Super Dollfie Dream Mirai ~A Lady from the Darkside~

Dolpa 13, April 27, 2005 (The normal skin body might also say "2004" since it is the same sculpt.)

The link for this doll is also broken now:

Again, the knees don't match.

I wonder if the body is a hybrid of some kind.

As I recall, there were a couple of one-offs called Super Dollfie Dreams--I know one used the Mirai head mold. They basically used the DDI molds to make a resin body instead.

Kind of a shame to see it in this condition, considering how damned uncommon they are.

I take that back, Mitsuki beat me with her epic knowledge! And she's right, the knees are DDII-style. @_@ What. . . is this the first time we've seen an attempted DD recast?

In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser.

i am also confused right now..with the knees being different in mold, we can conclude this one isn't a DD1 body..but the body has a mark, the sculpted lettering i'm referring to that says "2004 volks japan"..as i know, recast bodies doesn't have one?? (not a 100% sure on this one)

Thank you! You are so nice.

I agree with Poofie. I wonder if it is an attempt at a recast.

It looks like both DD1 and the Super Dollfie Dream bodies had this type of knees.

Aside from the knees, the elbows and ankles are different from DD1 too.

6366783319_7418361291.jpg

DD1 doesn't have as pronounced of a gap/space for the string to maneuver in the elbow.

The foot in your photo looks like one piece attached to the lower leg. The DD1 has a separate foot attached at the ankle.

Do recasters keep the identifying marks? Then unscrupulous people can pass them off as official. I am not familiar with recasting. I don't think it is common with DDs.

Typically, if recasters can keep the official marks, they will, because they take the mold directly from an official doll. You're correct, though, that DDs have not been victims of recasting up until this point (likely due to the fact that they're vinyl, the internal frame system is more complicated as opposed to stringing, and it's just not as profitable for recasters to make).

Thank you for the information! I wonder if the bust is vinyl. It seems to be a different color from the rest of the body. I didn't expect recasting of DDs to surface with all the advancements in actual DD bodies. A strung recast would not be worth as much as an official DDS or DDIII body.

that's too bad..it looks like it really is a recast..now i feel bad 'cause i was the one who kinda convince my friend to buy it orz....the bust has the same feel like the rest of the body..

Don't worry. You didn't know. And you showed us something really interesting and unexpected! Thank you for the information on the bust too. I wonder if there are more bodies like this around.

That's definitely interesting. I'll root around Castaways and see if I can find something on this being a known recast. I know there were recasters interested in getting a DD Lucy, but I dont know what became of it, because I stopped following the recast community shortly after.

Also, hi Mitsuki! Where have you been hiding?

from what i saw the recaster bought the Lucy them promptly sold her again from the info a recast friendly person i know they did not try after feeling the difference between the vinyl so sold the doll to get there money back.

I would like to see where this goes I have not seen any vinyl recasted things before.

They are not necessarily recasts! I believe Rocket Corgi has made alternate legs and torsos to fit Volks Super Dollfies, so that they can wear DD clothing.

That could also explain the difference in the feel of the resin.

No, these aren't Rocket Corgi bodies. They look like this:

(scroll to the very botto for a DD vs Rocket Corgi comparison)

More photos:

There's no way they could be SO close to actual DD parts without being recasts... so they very likely recasts.
