Monty Posted October 22, 2015 (edited) Note: At this point, this topic is mostly speculation. I like to read a lot of Danny's tweets to and from Japanese people who either own or are interested in smart dolls because every now and then there's some insight that I don't remember him saying in English. (Also, it's nice to see the Japanese response to smart doll as the fanbase has largely been people outside Japan to begin with, but it seems like its becoming more and more popular with Japanese doll collectors) Anyway, that's how I saw this about a week or so ago: Original tweet: I'd like you to develop a 1/6 doll too... Danny: I will show the prototype of a 1/6 smart doll next year! Since I haven't seen this announced anywhere else, I don't want to say its confirmed yet, but its worth speculating at least! What do you guys think? Would you get a 1/6 smart doll? It's kind of ironic - I got into this hobby through 1/6 dolls and my initial thought about smart dolls was 'they look so cute but why arent they 1/6?! I'm not interested in anything bigger than that!' But now that I want a 1/3 smart doll the desire for a 1/6 one has gone away a lot. However...if he was making the same cast, I wouldn't mind getting Ebony this way if it were a cheaper alternative. And it would definitely be nice to have a manlier 1/6 boy - I love my pure neemo boys but they come in little child sizes only. But these things would have to be taken into account: -Could you still change wigs and eyes? A lot of 1/6 dolls have pre-rooted hair, and this would limit customization. -What clothes would be compatible? When I think 1/6 dolls I think of Pure Neemos, but I feel like the smart dolls would be much taller (size L at the least) due to their long legs and its unlikely any of their clothes would fit. It could potentially make finding clothing difficult. Anyway, I just thought I'd share this. What are your thoughts? archeotech Posted October 22, 2015 I imagine you could change the wig and eyes just like any other yo-SD, 1/6 is a common enough size for bjd. He probably won't conform to regular yo-SD sizing though so you'll likely only be able to get clothes from him.
elianti Posted October 22, 2015 Thanks for this post! I've been really wondering about any Japanese reception to smart doll since I only see what English speakers here have to say lol Admittedly when I read that I thought "oh cool I'd like to see that though I already like pure neemo and obitsu a lot so mehhh" but that all changes if he decides to make a mini Eiji too! I'm not too fond of the obitsu slim male body and there's no adult male option for pure neemo (I wonder what azone will do about their 1/6 Hetalia America doll though lol) so I'm open for more options. I almost bought a taeyang body earlier this year but I've since put my 1/6 dolly exploits on hold for now. I don't mind waiting a bit longer to see what Danny has to offer. I also think that it's likely that a 1/6 smart doll will be 27cm/L size, given the 1/3 proportions. If that's the case, maybe parabox 27cm clothing might fit. It would be a shame that smart doll would miss out on the wardrobe that m neemos get to choose from though.
Jezrah Posted October 22, 2015 Wait, does he mean 1/6 as in Azone and Obitsus, or 1/6 as in YoSD toddler size? That makes a big difference in people's interest levels.
Yukamina Posted October 23, 2015 Wait, does he mean 1/6 as in Azone and Obitsus, or 1/6 as in YoSD toddler size? That makes a big difference in people's interest levels. Probably mature 1/6. Somehow I can't imagine Smart Doll going for the small child look... not without some prior indication, anyway. They're based off of the Mirai characters, so we'll probably get mini Mirai, mini Kizuna, etc. My Etsy Shop ~~~ My DeviantArt

Ajahli Posted October 24, 2015 I honestly would love a 1/6 Smart Doll! I have Mirai but I really want Ebony and Chitose when she comes out! I guess a 1/6 smart doll would be kind of like having a pose able, customizable figure haha
Monty Posted October 27, 2015 I didn't actually know yoSD qualified as 1/6. (then again I'm really new to anything other than Azones...) But it's hard to imagine Danny doing something like that - especially considering the smart doll plus (1/2) just looks like a sized up Mirai, I imagine the ...smart doll minus? (okay I doubt he'd call it that but it would be funny) would be a sized down Mirai. But, like I said, it's all speculation, we probably wont know anything until next year and even then who knows exactly when. I imagine he wants to get Harmony and Chitose out of the way first. EDIT- The Japanese response has been really intersting - it looks like more and more Japanese doll fans are finding out about the Gotanda store and visiting it. I've also seen people posting photos of their smart dolls and have people reply/ask 'what doll is this? Where do you get one?' It's really cool to see. Ebony seems to be pretty popular too, which is ironic considering volks dont seem to think a tanned body would sell. *twitter*instagram*art*

Minuette Posted October 27, 2015 It's good to see Danny expanding his doll line, but what ever happened to the animatronic Smart Doll? Hope he's not overstretching his resources. :\ The development on her is expensive at Smart Doll's original scale. He sized her up to Smart Doll plus to help alleviate some costs, as he could more easily source parts. As it is now, he's focusing on the manual version to support the development of the automatic version. She's clearly been popular, so I hope the development's going well. I originally came for the 1/6 Dolls size... it's a freak'n war-zone in that scale size. I have not found a 1/6 body that I truly love. Not all 1/6 are equal and clothing is trial & error. Firewolf Posted December 27, 2015 I'd love a 1/6 smart doll, though I'd prefer mature proportions :3 They are just a lot more portable and I love getting props - so playscale is the easiest/cheapest lol

senyac Posted December 30, 2015 hey Danno this is from 2012: so whats the holdup on those moving smartdolls you promised us all those years ago Not really a Doll but a robot with a Dollfie head and clothing , Here is another video showing the internals , I think Danny's idea is to have His look like a doll even without clothing but still have Robotic
Monty Posted January 17, 2016 Danny never 'promised' anything, and the 'holdup' has been explained multiple times (I disagree about it even counting as a 'holdup' as the term implies it was intended to come out in the immediate future) - with current technology it's too difficult to implement his vision without making huge compromises (Danny is a perfectionist, he doesnt do compromises and he isnt interested in a doll that is rooted to a robotics box that cannot move from there) and without it costing a small fortune, which isn't economical - not to mention few people will be interested. He's still interested in the project, despite the public interest and demand for the manual version being far, far greater, but I don't know why people expect him to have it out immediately. It's a bit tiring seeing people slinging accusations at him all the time over it, as though someones inability to make an 'affordable' robotic doll that can walk is somehow laziness . I don't want to sound rude with this, I just wish some people would actually consider what kind of undertaking his vision actually is. Anyway, the 1/6 project got an update today, here's the current progress on it. Gives a good idea of the size. Looks like it's going to be called Smart Doll Mini. *twitter*instagram*art*

jadepixel Posted January 18, 2016 Aw, neat! The body has a nice amount of detail for the scale ^_^ I'd love if she could share clothes with pure neemo, though! The tricky part will be a down-sized armature, obtisu and azone 1/6 have solid body parts and simple joints. If the body has to be re-engineered then I would expect a pretty long wait from this point. jadepixel doll lab jadepixel eye shop

First, a comment about the top statement: I agree with everything said. Danny is amazing and working every day to bring us new things. I'm sure, even if we don't see it, he is working on stuff for his robotic smart doll line. We just have to be patient. C: And then on to the Smart Doll Mini: She is such a cute size! >w< I would love to get on for my dollies and let them have their own doll. Though, I think in the end they may be a little big for them to be considered an SD size doll. Thoughts? Monty Posted January 20, 2016 Definitely too big for a SD's SD. Danny just confirmed they will be 30cm tall. So half the height of a smart doll! 30cm is a lot bigger than what I'm used to 1/6 scale being....because I'm a pure neemo fan, and my 1/6 kids are mostly between 21-23cm tall. But speaking of which, pure neemo size, particularly XS size, could be good for a 'doll's doll' size! That's what lots of people have done - you'll even see examples of that in the Pure Neemo thread in the offtopic dolls board. And Picco Neemo (1/12 scale) would work even better. Danny has also confirmed he will be working on Mini-Eiji 'in tandem', which implies that Eiji and Mirai will be the first mini smart dolls instead of the order he used for the regular smart dolls (Mirai > Kizuna > Ebony/Ivory > Eiji). Can't wait to see =D (edit- although I'm not sure why the Chitose card is in that picture since I can't imagine he wouldnt start with Mirai) *twitter*instagram*art*

Can't wait to see =D (edit- although I'm not sure why the Chitose card is in that picture since I can't imagine he wouldnt start with Mirai) It's so great that Danny would be releasing mini Eiji from the beginning! *__* Since he will be no doubt be taller than Mirai, I wonder how he would look next to similar scaled dolls... Mirai is already about as tall as an obitsu 27cm male so she's quite the supermodel among the neemo/pullip/obitsu/etc girls already. xD If an L size Pure Neemo doesn't look too short in comparison to Eiji, I just might restart my 1/6 dolly plans to have travel-friendly versions of everyone.. lol;;; And I may have missed it completely, but did Danny specify what type of material he'll be using for the outer parts? I can't be sure from the picture, but it looks to be a harder(ABS?) plastic?
SisterKyoya Posted January 20, 2016 It's interesting to see how much '1/6th' scale can vary in actual size. Dolly (Volks EB Mini F) was sold as 1/6 scale and he's pretty small. I have no idea what I would do with a 1/6 scale Mirai and Eiji, but I want them. I'm sure one of my girls would claim them. ~Sister Kyoya Forum Blog: Badger Pocket Tales (Family story from the beginning) | { Old Family story reboot: Start Here! } Follow me on Twitter, Flickr & Instagram
Monty Posted January 20, 2016 I've been wondering how tall Dolly is, Sister Kyoya, do you know? I wanted to know exactly how tall he is compared to my 21cm boys... I imagine my Aoto thinking Dolly is a tiny little thing without realising that he only looks that way in comparison to Tama, because I imagine him being taller than 21cm and thus bigger than Aoto. He'd probably get a shock to know that. (Makes me want to do more photo stories with these kids even though not a lot of photo stories tend to get posted on the off topic dolls board.)I did the Christmas one as an excuse to try and finally do one, but I keep having other ideas and really wonder if anyone wants to see them. I definitely want to post their meeting with Eiji once I bring him home though.) It'd be cool if you did get a mini Eiji just to find out whether he and Dolly become enemies or partners in crime. EDIT= New update! He's developing this faster than I expected. Now we get a better idea of the scale as he conveniently included a Licca-chan, which are pretty close to pure neemo size. *twitter*instagram*art*
Pannduhh Posted January 21, 2016 Oh gosh! She is pretty big. I wasn't expecting that. Maybe Danny plans on releasing Mirai, Eiji and Chitose all at the same time on this line? Though, that seems a little much. Maybe the Chitose card was there just for a size comparison? But then again, that doesn't mean it could have been a hint. I wonder if the outfits for the 1/6 will be the same as the 1/3 or will he change them up a little bit.
