Pocket Doll (AKA Smart Doll Mini) - 1/6 scale

I don't -really- have any interest in getting a 1/3 scale Eiji (maybe the tan version? I'm just not sure about his face...) but holy wow I want that 1/6 scale version! I'll probably end up collecting them all. I wonder what the price range will be...

 

I know right? Maybe it's because the "error" in 3D printers but it looks better!!

I'm so in love with the girls, but 60cm was just too much for my taste... But these are my new holy grail, i suppose *_____* I really hope to see them ready soon (aaaaaaaand some Chitose and Harmony, too )

Some cute new pics from twitter. Apparently he's going to have them on display at I-Doll tomorrow, so there might be more photos of them then.

What strikes me about these pics though is that Eiji's head seems bigger than Mirai's, whereas in the 1/3 versions his head seems smaller than hers.

 

 

 

Not really sure about Mirai's headband thing - I wonder if there will be a 1/3 version of it though?

 

Since he said they're not going to come out until late this year, there must be a few issues he needs to sort out or something. Or maybe he just wants to get the other Mirai Millenium 1/3 characters out first? He said in a recent tweet he wants to do what he can to get them out this year, though. And once again confirmed they'll have tan/dark skin versions as well - although I don't think he's confirmed yet if the other characters like Kizuna/Ivory/Chitose are getting 1/6 versions.

 

edit- Thanks to Mysha's question we also now know that the 1/6 versions do not have the internal frame, which is something I was expecting since the 1/6 I'm familiar with are pure neemos, which have solid bodies as opposed to hollow ones.

I eagerly await the price point to be announced. I'd love to have the "Culture Japan" crew in 1/6, but the bodies also look like they might be good for upgrading other 1/6 dollies…

I was curious about a "movement system" in these dolls and today I got an answer that they will not have an internal frame - which was more or less expected, coz the frame scaled to 1/6 would be really thin and fragile

I really love the way Eiji looks in 1/6 version. His face is a bit more relaxed opposing to serious face of 1/3 version. It all depends on lightning and angle, of course, but to me he looks a tiny bit younger and soft

But those are sososo cute together, and Mirai's look is so soft and gentle ^_^ and they already have some "light" stuff like lingerie - that's nice. I really adore the idea of getting the characters as they are, with some clothing that give a ready image, personality. I like that this idea is basic for SmartDoll, and hope they will provide "fullset" characters for 1/3 as well

I was under the impression that since he posted photos of those dolls on April 1st.. They were JOKES. As my friend has told me. >.>

The april fools joke was the medical mirai with the cutaway stomach and internal organs.

Showing smaller dolls isnt a very exciting april fools joke, especially when dolls smaller than that exist anyway (azone's picco neemos) so I'm really not sure why I keep seeing people saying that.

 

EDIT- This is assuming you/your friend are talking about Smart Doll Nano, not Smart Doll Mini/Pocket Doll. Smart Doll Nano is an even smaller version but still bigger than an Azone Picco Neemo. These Pocket Dolls that I originally made the thread for are pretty standard 1/6 action figure size. To me they seem 'too big' to be 1/6 but thats only cos I'm used to Azones. Both are very much not jokes, but especially not Pocket Doll. Spending months and months working and reworking a body, developing eyes/wigs/clothes for it etc only to be all 'actually it was all a joke!' would make no sense at all.

No that wouldn't! But she didn't really say if it was or not, I knew the Medical Mirai was a joke, xD Though still funny. She didn't say if the Mini's were. So I assumed they were, Since i wanted one. Naturally. xD

I wish so much that these were done already! They would be so nice to take on trips and fiddle with at my desk. I could have mini versions of my characters...

 

Anyway, super excited to see these as they come along! I hope they come in a small box or bag for easy transportation when on the go (unfortunately, I do not have the guts to take a 1/3 everywhere openly the way Choo does)!

Danny is a nefarious, diabolical genius. My wallet is very upset with him.

According to the latest info, Pocket Dolls are delayed because of some license stuff.

Edit: Well, that's a problem. I hope he finds a way to solve it. Why is he having problems now when the product has been under developement so long?

I think the issue may be that they haven't been devoting much time to working on them due to all the other new products, especially the licensed dolls.

1/3 scale may also have higher returns since there is a *lot* more competition in the 1/6 scale market. Hence, for a relatively new, small company it may be wiser to focus on 1/3rd scale dolls.

I must admit I'm torn.

On the one hand it would be great to have a doll that's easier to bring along on travels or excursions.

On the other hand, there are so many other dolls of that size around, so the competition would be fierce.

 

I was initially planning on waiting for the smaller version, but I think that I have decided to get the big one instead. Just had to buy a certain bjd first, apparently... Oops. But then, now there's more time to save for the cocoa Chitose.

I must admit I'm torn.

We'll see. I might still decide on Kasshoku after all.

 

I have a few Blythes, Momokos and soon a 1/6 Obitsu. The size is very familiar to me. I suppose the Smartdoll mini would be similar to Momoko in posing ability, if not better.

This is a really cute idea. Almost the right size to be a doll for a doll that's DD sized. If that makes sense....

While I'm a little sad to hear that Pocket Doll is delayed, I guess it's not entirely surprising. The licenses for the 1/3 dolls have got to be where all the interest and money is tied up right now, so it makes sense he wants to focus on that

I wonder what licence it is he needs. Is he going to create new characters, do you think?
