Rin Tohsaka and Takane Shijou

No luck here on both entries. Guess the win rate wasnt so high this time :S

I'm so glad I won Rin through VolksUSA -- because my Volks International account is continuing its perfect losing streak! Seriously, that account has never won a single doll in any lottery.

My order numbers are blue but I haven't received any emails. I'm on my phone though too so I don't know if that has something to do with it. Guess I'll try from an actual computer after work. Sigh at least I think MOMO will finally be here. Been waiting on her since October. ;-(

Rin - mid/high tier

Ranko - mid tier (maybe mid/high but seems more mid to me)

Makoto - Low tier

Uzuki - low/mid tier

Mio - low tier

 

Based on their pricing in the aftermarket. (On auctions, I'm not thinking of stores like Mandarake or Jungle because their prices can be weird af.)

 

Takane is looking to be a high tier, but new releases are always a bit high tier. I'd say she'll settle in right in between Rin and Ranko's tier so a mid/high tier. She's no Miki yet. Miki is still the most expensive idol.

 

Feel free to correct me. I only consider Miki to be high tier cause she's so expensive ( ends auctions between 150k~170k so yeah.) I haven't paid as much attention though and I know the market is always changing.

I have all of them except Ranko, and I love all of them. In point of fact want to pick up Ranko at some point to complete my Cinderella's.

 

As an observation Mio sells on Ebay and YJA for less than any other Dollfie I have seen there. I got her on YJA for about $450. Given that plus the fact that Volks had to run two lottery draws to distribute her I am thinking she wasn't very popular. She's actually really cute imo.

 

I'm going to safely assume I lost now. Oh well. There's always the next lottery!

Lost Takane as well, time to start looking at yahoo auctions I guess.

I suppose I lost my second Rin. That's for the best I guess, but now I'm really glad I decided to enter via Volks USA despite the exchange rate.

Congratzs to everyone who won. I hope Volks doesn't decide to give results like this for every lottery from now on. I lost for Rin as well, so I guess if possible I'll try to search for just Rin's head then.

I wonder will Takane's price on YJA settle in the 80k range or the 100k range. I am not sure what Japan thinks of her VA's singing talent but that seems to play a lot into how popular the DD is. Thats probably why Miki is so popular. The opposite case for Chihaya though. Her DD was low tier, maybe because of the sculpt and SS bust.

 

I managed to snag Takane on YJA already. I just gambled assuming her price is going to be like Shiburin and Ranko.

why can't volks just anticipate more production so it meets the demand from time to time. At the moment, the scalpers will make 10 millions accounts and hope every one of them wins because they are profiting from each sales. If volks will meet the demand at some point so the scalpers will actually lose money, then it will make the collectors and the true doll lovers a lot happier and easier to get their hands on something they like; instead of paying a premium. After all this is their main customer base, without these ppl, they will not have a fking market.

 

And this is the reason why I absolutely refuse to pay premium for dolls in after market even if I can, since it encourages the scalper to work harder. If we give in and pay, this domino effect will just go on and dolls will be harder and harder to win in the future.

 

Think about it, back in 2008 DP19, Saber will only cost about 80000 to get, and it took it about a few years before price climbs to 120000-150000. Now when dolls release right after event, it shoots up to the range of 120000-150000. I can only imagine how much we will be paying in the next 5 years if this scalping shit keeps on going.

Unfortunately that is their business model. They want their items to be rare and exclusive, catering to hardcore collectors.

 

Their standard models and yearly preorder releases I guess are meant to cover the casual market. They probably also take up most of their production capacity too. Volks might also be satisfied with their current level of profit, and don't want to take the risk of expanding their factory/operations. The popularity of DD's might just die off as quickly as it has risen...

I'll log in another loss for Rin, this time from the Dollpoint store.

 

It isn't any easier to get DDs at retail in Japan, just as a reminder to make folks overseas perhaps feel a bit better. Sometimes you win, but most of the time you lose, no matter what entry method is used. There's just plenty enough popularity / competition to make that true these days.

Sigh It seems that I am unlucky for volks international. TT.TT I asked a few of my friends to enter for me (who are also customers) and no luck.

 

If anyone wins an extra Rin and doesn't want twins, I'm willing to take her off your hands.

I get why Volks restricts some of their DD either through lottery or preorder girls, but what I don't understand is why there aren't more default sculpts. Technically the last two defaults they released are limited as well because they can be a bit annoying/a pain in the rear to get ahold of. From what I understand, the 05 sculpt is Sirius. So why can't they do more releases like that for standards? Or at least have heads that have similar range that wouldn't be stepping on licensing issues. From a customizing end of things it's what many of us would prefer since frankly it is at least somewhat difficult to get past the hesitation of wiping off the faceup of a limited girl you just bought. All some of us want is more options for the characters we want to do and really don't care who the original character of the sculpt we need was.

 

For me I'm having the additional battle that I've got a very, very specific use for Rin's sculpt. She's one that for a couple of years now I figured I had a chance of next to never to get her. If I had the means, I would have bought her off of ebay yesterday in less than a heartbeat. I wouldn't have even had to think about it. For how badly I want her sculpt the scalper's prices practically seem cheap, making her my most expensive DD (with Daisy following right behind), and I could care less about everything else she comes with. Heck, I'd even trade one of my Snow Miku preorders for just Rin's head, or be at someone's beck and call in making them a custom fullset outfit for their DD (trust me, it ain't cheap and I've got loads of skills.)
