Ahh ok, that's what I thought, that it'd still be a bit of a wait. Unfortunately I need my current order by a certain date, otherwise I'd just order it now. Hopefully it turns out really nicely!

Until I get her looking like Rin again, with eyes and an appropriate wig, I want to keep her out of her default set so I don't ruin it. A button already came off that I have to sew back on (~_~#)

 

So I just put some clothes on her and, well you can see for yourself.

 

She does look absolutely gorgeous in that wig and with those eyes. She gives Saber Lily a run for her money in the looks department.

 

Lily and Rin both have a "girl next door" look. Beautiful, but its a natural kind of beauty and not the glamour of a super model.

Anyone tried a white wig on Rin? I am interested to see how it looks.

I put her eyes back in, and spent a LOT of time trying to just get them to look ok. First I put them in so that the tops would be shown more so there'd be more dark, but when it was done I realized her eyeballs looked like they were pointing down. So whatever I just spent a ton of time to make the eyes look however normal and be the same on each frickn' side, symmetrical. I did it, but it looks like the putty (silicone ear plugs) shifted a bit and one of her eyes is now just slightly off from where I had it. Oh well. I'm still learning how to deal with that stuff.

 

But she does look a lot better than she did before. I'm not sure what I did really, but I think the two eyes are closer together.

 

Rin is definitely a trial and error doll for me, but I also find that I'm having the most fun with her because she's a bit difficult.

I'm finding that too actually. I didn't feel the need to significantly customize my other girls, but seeing how much Rin can change is really interesting. The last look she had with the Senbonzakura eyes was really motivating ^^ I may get some proper brown eyes for her at some point.

 

Rin and Aoko really do look alike. They should, of course, being from the same character designer, but I think I'll try out swapping their default wigs at some point.

 

Speaking of wigs, it sounds like I'm not the only one disappointed in Rin's.

As Volks default wigs go it seems to be one of the better ones, but that doesn't mean much. The only default wig I've seen that I'd say is actually a good, quality wig is Miku's.

 

What's weird is that there seems to be a two types of wigs, one where the bangs fall forward like like Baldylox's and Wolfheinrich's, and another like mine where the bangs point completely sideways. I spent a bunch of time with water wax to get the fringe to come together so it'd cover her forehead (er, I had it on Rin before that photo).

 

It's like half the staff didn't get the memo.

 

Overall both Rin and Takane's default outfit quality is pretty disappointing to me.

 

My Takane arrived today, and overall I find I wasn't disappointed with her outfit. It does have two issues that I notice:

 

The belt buckle doesn't want to stay on. The two clasp that attach the belt to loops in her pants really should clip onto the buckle to hold it in place. I can't see any good reason for them not to have designed it that way.

 

The jacket doesn't do a good job of staying in place on her chest. This is probably simply the reality of absurd anime clothing that works in a drawing where physics only applies when the animator wants it to. I plan on swapping her with an M bust, so she probably won't be wearing that jacket much anyways.

 

Her wig isn't too bad, but I am glad I have some alternatives on the way.

 

Anyone know of online tutorials on using a curling iron? I've never used one and at the moment don't even own any.

 

For that matter is there a good size curling iron for doll wigs? Given the smallness of the curls I figure I want something sized for making ringlets and not big luxurious human hair curls.

 

Takane herself is gorgeous. I'm going to guess she will get expensive as she becomes scarce.

She is gorgeous either way. I like the blue eyes more, but the Senbonsakura eyes were an excellent choice for her. She's a really beautiful sculpt.

 

Miku's default wig was good, and Mio Akiyama's is the best quality wig I have from Volks.

I was able to order the Rin wig from for U during their first pre order, I just received it in the mail today and I think it's a really nice! I only have the first version of Rin but I think it looks really similar to the new versions wig it just needed a bit styling. The fibers and the quality is excellent.

The Crobi CRWML-80 wig Foo has on Rin fits my SD perfectly. Her head is big, and the wig is a tight fit, but the bangs fall perfectly across her face.

I like her in the burgendy FMD wig, the Pink Lucy's wig, and the grey ForU wig. I think she does favor the straight bangs, but all the bang types look good on her.

 

Seeing her in different eyes would be cool.

Got my taobao order in, here are some quick, sad phone shots of wigs on Rin. I've got a bunch of work due this so I haven't had a chance to test the eyes I bought or properly style and photograph wigs.

Licht 1: really nice for the price. The little buns are slightly uneven but you can kind of scoot them around so I'll try that when I have more time. She kinda suffers from fathead syndrome in this one. Proper styling will may fix it.

 

Licht 2: Her head is way too big to wear this without the twintails, but it's pretty ok once they're on. I like it better with one clip than two. This wig is fairly tight in comparison to the first Licht wig I bought.

 

ForU 1: Massive fathead victim /)_(\. I'm not sure how I feel about this one both color and style-wise on Rin,

it seems a little frumpy? I knew I'd be able to see the bottoms of the wefts on the clips, but it's a little worse in person than I thought. I'd planned on covering the weft edges with ribbons if I decide keep it.

 

ForU 2: This wig is much looser and much nicer, almost like the fibers came from a different supplier? The base shed a ton but it's very full. No problems with Rin's fat head and the twintails are adorable!

@Nekopon: I really like her in the Lullaby Poem (top row) and the Sasara's. That color looks so good on her! I wish I'd thought to order a lighter blond. Next time! I love the color of the Crobi wig too.

I noticed shedding on all the For U Wigs I got, but definitely the most from that same wig. Once I combed them out it stopped. It's like they trimmed them, but never bothered to comb them afterwards. Not cutting or concealing that elastic was pretty sloppy though. I'll find a way to tuck it back out of sight, but I found that very unprofessional.

 

Rin looks great in that wig though. I like her in the first Licht wig too. I usually keep the hair color at the characters normal hair color, but get different styles. Since this is mostly an anime character thing for me it's like it's Rin, but with a different hairstyle that way. The limited characters do look great in different color wigs though.

 

Aaand girls have been known to change things up with a little hair dye on occasion.

I know it's off topic, but can you post a link to an image? I wouldn't mind seeing how it fits on a non-Crobi doll. I'm sure I'm going to trim it, but haven't thought it through yet (well I'm not in a rush).

 

Also, for obvious reasons I've been watching Unlimited Blade Works again. It's really clear now how much they've designed the new Rin to look like she does in UBW. For example,

It's a shame they didn't do her eyes better. They're really, really pretty but they're just not right. If they made them more disc-like, like Melty's or Sakuya's eyes, that might have worked better.

I can post an image in the off-topic dolls thread, but it probably won't be for a few days. I haven't tried that wig on Rin yet, but on Shion (Sheryl Nome Head) the bangs pretty much cover half her face unless I position the wig really high on her head where it just looks wrong.

 

I can do some side by side comparisons with my SD & Rin.

 

Rin's eyes are a beautiful color, but there is just something off about them. I spent a lot of time re-positioning them, and while they look better they still just look a bit off. Granted that could be my own poor skill at adjusting eyes.

 

On a better note, the inner caps on both wigs are a cappuccino-like color. I haven't left them on for any amount of time but hopefully that means that if they stain, it won't be as bad as if they were all black?

 

I'm not sure what fabric wig caps are usually made of. The fiber looks and feels like linen to me, but it's probably too elastic to be linen; or cotton for that matter. Natural linen and cotton are a yellowish color though. If they are made from ether of those fibers then the caps aren't dyed and are unlikely to stain. I have a feeling they are some kind of synthetic because they are really stretchy.

I want to say that the stuff ForU uses is something synthetic? It looks and feels kind of like a spandex-y mesh. That type of material would be (to my knowledge) very difficult to dye, so if it's something like that I assume it wouldn't be dyed and therefore wouldn't stain? But it's also kind of a strange color so I'm still really apprehensive. I haven't gotten around to making a cap to go underneath, either.

 

I'm leaving Rin's default socks on her overnight. I hope I have the same luck as everyone else.

Oh, I love her in the second Lullaby Poem wig and Sasara's wig! It's amazing how subtle changes in the shape of the wigs frame her face differently and completely change how her face shape looks.

 

The dark red wig makes her eyes so vibrant!!

 

I think I like the sideswept bangs and irregular shaped bangs a little better. She looks good in all of them.

Yeah so far Crobidoll is my favorite wig maker followed by ForMyDoll. Now that I have some Leekeworld wigs on the way so I will get to see how they compare. Leeke shipped my order like 4 hours after I placed it too. I have a wig specifically for Rin in that order, so I'm looking forward to seeing how she looks in it.

Yeah, I really don't like her default eyes. Like many others feel, they don't seem to sit right with me. In fact, I'm in the hunt for new blue eyes for Rin Rin as I reply. I agree the dark red hair really brings out her eyes, better than all the other color wigs!

 

From my experience, Leeke's fibers aren't as silky as FMD's but they are known for their variety of colors and styles.

I think that wig looks really darling on your Mariko as well! ForU is actually a bit on the pricier side for Taobao wig makers from what I've seen. Their fiber quality is really nice and I think they wash or condition them as their wigs smell really good and like some sort of hair product. It's just weird to me that they wouldn't trim the elastics if they'd go to the efforts of cleaning their fibers! Licht's fibers aren't as nice and they're dirt cheap in comparison, but they trim their elastic. It's just a minor gripe. Not like I don't have scissors to trim them with or anything.

Anyway, photos of different eyes in Rin. These pairs are both 24mms from Fel World. The first pair fits pretty well but the second is a little too big.

 

I found a little spot of dirt or something that I think is sealed in on Rin's face today . No matter what I do it won't come out, but I didn't think it was there yesterday, so ??? My only guess is that it's embedded in the sealant and that I'd managed to miss it until now.

 

Edit: Today's update - The blond Licht wig has been on Rin for a few hours now and no staining that I've noticed. I'll check again in a bit and probably leave it on overnight. Whatever the material the inner cap is made of, it's the same stuff as the other Licht wig I bought as well as both ForU wigs. ForU and the blond Licht wig actually have darker inner caps than the pink Licht wig, so if the blond wig doesn't stain then I'll take a chance on the ones from ForU. I'm reasonably sure the material hasn't been dyed.
