Rin Tohsaka and Takane Shijou

@Elagabalus: I really love the Fel World eyes you chose for Rin! They are just so many shades of blue and magically sparkly! Think they will be just perfect if a little smaller~

 

Ah, I think you're right about Licht's wigs. I'm not sure why some makers would cut them and some wouldn't. I would cut them, I just hope they don't start unraveling!

 

Anyways, I finally found a bit of time to try different eyes on Rin. Let me know what you think! ^^

@Nekopon: I love the Hisyo Hisyo, Blue Rose Garden, Ronronshuka, and Mariko's eyes in Rin. I lreally ike the colors in Momo's but they could probably use to be a little wider.

Next time I do another taobao order I will probably grab that one pair of eyes from Fel in 22s. I think the 24s in blue look pretty decent though! Fel's eyes are so addicting, I love all of their designs.

In terms of size I like the Hisyo-Hisyo eyes and the WhiteDollyStory eyes. I like Rin's color and style the best. The Lizanna eyes are good too.

 

Can I ask what size those eyes were?

@Elagabalus: I love the Hisyo-Hisyo ones too! The purple ronronshukas are also lovely. Momo's eyes are a true wonder that works with so many girls in general. It's not perfect on Rin but certainly isn't bad either! Where do you get your Fel eyes? I'm curious now, they're lovely!

 

@Wolf: The Lizanna and WhiteDollyStory eyes are both 22mm. In case you were wondering, the Hisyo-Hisyos are also 22mm!

The purple Hisyo and Mariko's eyes look amazing on her too!

I also liked the volks eyes on the first row. They give her a more gentle look.

Their quality for their price is SO good. The print quality on the eyes is very clear and the colors are super saturated. I only retouch them a little in photoshop to add a bit more light to them as it's hard to illuminate a doll's face like you would a person's cause of the scale.

 

I've been out of the eye buying scene for years, and for the most part then I mostly bought eurethanes for resin BJDs. Where can I look fro Hisyo Hisyo eyes?

I know it's off topic, but can you post a link to an image? I wouldn't mind seeing how it fits on a non-Crobi doll. I'm sure I'm going to trim it, but haven't thought it through yet (well I'm not in a rush).

 

Here is Rin in her new Leekeworld wig. By far my favorite Rin wig at this point. The hair extensions are clip-on, and the wig was styled so that the part of her hair you are supposed to clip on to can be re-positioned a bit. Very nicely done wig.

 

I really didn't like Takane's one-piece L bust torso. The size of her bust made her waist look unnaturally thin in my opinion. It's probably less pronounced on a two-piece torso but on the one-piece it looked really exaggerated. She's got Chihaya's IM@S top on now. I really want to get her an M so she is closer to her actual anime design. Sandwiched in between the two is my SD Ami in the CRWL-80 wig from Crobi. It's probably just a bit tight on her head and an 8.5 inch would fit better. Still it looks pretty nice on her.

But what I was referring to, is that the Crobi photos have the wigs going like this, which is what they naturally want to do,

 

 

On Crobi's model that extra swoosh goes across the forehead, not over the face like on Rin.

 

On the 8" wigs, if you pull the wig back a bit that swoosh can go down the middle,

Here's some Rin spam, I took the photos ~10 days ago. Nothing new really other than this is what the eyes look like now, closer together and slightly lower than original. The eye on the left is persistent about being too close to the nose ｏ( ＞ ＜)o The next time I change her eyes around I'll try to distribute the putty better so it has better support there.

I never got used to Sakuya's L-bust (･･') Originally she was supposed to be my only other doll than Miku which I pre-ordered, so I got her an S-bust so I'd be able to share clothing and not stretch stuff. In the end I really prefer her on the S bust, but I do give her an M-bust sometimes because some clothes just fit better then.

 

I got Yaya like 2 months after Sakuya. Melty arrived 2 months after Miku.

I think the fit is better on your Miku than my SD. I like the Crobi wigs though, so I will probably get some more soon.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but I wanted to ask about Takane. I'm trying to decide weather to wait to buy her(In hopes her price comes down a little) or just keep my Snow Miku pre-order. What tends to usually happen with a DD's price like Takane over time? I've found her from 130k~160k on various sites, which seems pretty high.

 

To keep my Snow Miku or pay a pretty high price for Takane?

I have Takane, and she is gorgeous. I also have Snow Miku and she is pretty awesome too. I don't think I would trade one for the other, but that's just me personally. Takane has fashion model looks, and Miku's face has more personality. Out of the box at least. I've seen some pretty cool customs with both dolls.

 

I did find that Takane's coat doesn't fit her bust very well. Not a big deal if you don't like the IM@S pink outfits, and plan to dress her in other things. When I got her it was always my intention to downgrade her to an M or S bust, so I kind of wrote the coat off before she arrived anyways.

 

From what you are saying her price has gone up a bit since she was released. I want to say back then she was around ¥120,000. I haven't been at this long enough to really know what this means in terms of a long term trend, but as she gets rarer I would expect the NIB price would go up not down.

 

You could always try posting in the forum Marketplace for a Takane. Some folks are willing to do things on a layaway, so maybe that can help you to keep your Miku and get Takane if that is a desired outcome.

That's something you'll have to think about yourself. Who do you think would bring you the most joy?

 

If you really want Takane, you should be more patient and save up a little more. Miku is in bigger numbers, so obviously her price won't increase as bad.

Honestly I like Miku, but REALLY like Takane haha. If I do end up passing on Miku though I cant see myself ever buying her on the aftermarket(unless it was just her head.)

Well you should keep an eye out on Yahoo Japan and other places if you truly want Takane. She's only that expensive if you want to get her as a fullset. If you only really care for her head, she's around 55k yen.

 

Yes, it's speculated that if you cancel your pre-order, you will/might be blacklisted (however, you not winning could also be due to the low probability of winning a doll in a lottery in general). But try to avoid giving Volks a reason to think that you are a flighty customer. There are a few Japanese stores that puts you lower on the priority list if you have a history of canceling their items. I remember my friend actually had their order cancelled for a pre-order (of a figure) because he had cancelled his pre-order 2-3 times previously. If you don't have enough money to buy both DDs, try to sell your pre-order Miku first.

I've never done this, so I can't tell you from first hand experience how it works. Pretty much every time I see this question asked the answer is always "yes you will be blacklisted from entering pre-orders and lotteries."

 

Basically Volks is counting on you to keep your commitment, and not leave them with unsold inventory that they have to store until they can find a buyer.

I cant afford both right now but Miku I can. Probably in another 3-4 months I can get Takane going that route, and I really don't want to be blacklisted from future lotterys either.

Edit: I take that back it's not her default. The strands are the wrong color for it to be her default Volks wig, but it is a perfect fit for her. I like it a lot better than the Volks wig, which is so so in quality.

So a few weeks ago I implemented a fix for Takane's coat and bra getup. Basically out of the box her bra doesn't sit well, and her jacket won't stay closed over her bust. Overall it made for a sloppy look to a character who is has a very neat appearance.

Since the bra part really doesn't look good without the jacket I figured I didn't need to worry too much about attaching things to it.

Basically I just sewed some eyelets to the bra and some hooks to the jacket. I positioned them so that the jacket would pull on the bra enough to help keep it straight. Overall it worked pretty well.

Sadly over time the outfit itself has gotten a bit wrinkled, and that's probably mostly my fault due to how I stored it.

The two suggestions I have with this fix is try to minimize direct contact with that pink material. Use soft gloves if you have them, and be really careful not to poke the needle through that outer layer. That material is a bit unforging, and I have no idea if there is a way to remove the wrinkles, it seems likely that ironing it is out of the question.
