If you play that game for the "plot" you're playing it for the wrong reasons. Fate/stay night has an absolutely amazing plot, 1% of it is sex scenes, much like sex scenes in a mainstream movie. Did you read a bad translation? It's not a game (or an H game at that, where the goal is to win girls), it's a like a slideshow anime that's partially choose-your-own-adventure. I had plot in quotation marks to signal that it was referring to when a poorly done show tries to mask it's lack of actual plot by distracting the viewers with fanservice. The plot is fantastic! And, exactly. It's a visual novel, which some do classify as a type of game. I don't know how right or wrong that is since visual novels are kinda in a grey area on that. The translation was very good actually. It's just the sex scenes themselves weren't written as well as the rest of it I think. Then again, those kinds of scenes are hard to write in general. Towing the line between reading nicely and not going over the top purple-prosey is a bit tricky, and I get the impression at least some of them were thrown in for the sole purpose of being used as a hook to get people to actually play it like others have said. Hence why I said that if you played it for those things, it was for the wrong reason because the story is incredible! This is getting a bit off topic though, isn't it? Present! As the legend goes, he was advised to include them to make the game sell better. When I read them I honestly can't help but wonder if he wrote them bad on purpose as a way of saying "You want your sex scenes? HERE'S your sex scenes!" There's a reason why you lose absolutely nothing when you cut them out - to the extent that they were able to make the work-safe ports on Vita/etc with no issue. They do make great unintentional(?) comedy though. Unless people are actually getting turned on by food metaphors. Let's just say there's a reason bestofnasu.tumblr.com is comedy gold. I haven't checked to see if there have been any subsequent re-releases on Blu-Ray.That old series was quite bad, anyway. The new one that just came out this past year animated Rin's route/the Unlimited Blade Works story and was much better! I believe it's available for streaming (I know Fate/Zero, the prequel, is on Netflix USA), but bluray releases are probably handled by Aniplex and therefore quite expensive. I think the best of the Type Moon works was the Fate/Zero anime, because it was a Nasu concept written by a more talented (albeit with his own issues entirely) writer, which was then edited down by an anime production staff and adapted properly. The UBW anime is better than its VN counterpart for this reason as well, but it still has way too many "lol, Nasu" moments. Lest we never forget mollusks. It was a really nice series with decent animation and grafic effects for it's time. It's just a deferent scenario! I too like ubw because I love Rin and Archer but I also like the romance of Shirou and Saber on the stay night root. I also like the fact Ilya doesn't die in stay night. I really think it's worth to see both scenarios and fate zero too. I don't understand why people tend to like it more when stories get darker and sadder and everyone is unhappy and they usually love destroyed, emotionless characters with twisted logic... I consider it poor, it didn't hold up to the source material at all and changed it a lot. They tried blending all three arcs into one story and just ended up with something weird. Shirou's character was also incredibly thin, with no reasoning behind his actions (the worst being how Shinji 'convinced' him to clean the dojo in the first/second episode; UBW got it right). ufotable's Unlimited Blade Works on the other hand was very faithful to the source material and added original content that fleshed out the story properly. The UBW route is darker than Saber's Fate route; Saber's route is 'save everyone,' Rin/Archer's route is 'you can't save everyone, that's just an ideal and there's always a cost.' I won't say what the Heaven's Feel route is yet >_> It would be wonderful if someone did the Saber route properly, but that's not going to happen at this point. Saber is so endearing in the original VN. ...about this being off topic, well we shouldn't dominate the thread with it I guess but helping people understand the characters is helpful.
