Some quick and dirty photos before bed...

 

 

The first time I had her hold her knife, I had a flashback to the Rankin Bass adaptation of The Hobbit.

 

"And now I shall give you a name. And I shall call you Sting!"

ahhh! It's great seeing all the Rins arrive! Everyone's girls are looking amazing!

 

tunedbysaturnsl1, I agree, I found the wig a little tricky, too. I don't know if it's just me, but my wig keeps shedding, especially from the bangs even though I'm trying to be very gentle with it.

 

Galvatim, it's great seeing Rin reunited with Sakura. They are so cute together!

 

Nehelenia, she looks great in that wig! Need to try out some different wig styles on my Rin, too!

Rin arrived! I saw her at Dollpoint in the display case and I still wasn't convinced, but now that I have her holy crap she's pretty!. The other thing is I'm amazed how much effort they put into her fullset, it must be a lot of work to manufacture (another reason why there may not be many made). The boots are beautiful. Really, it seems they put a lot of effort into making this the best Rin Tohsaka collectable for Type-Moon fans.

 

I'm still amazed how cheap Yaya's fullset is, Rin's almost the same price...

 

Also, about her eyes. I haven't seen this before, but the way they designed them there's a lens magnification effect as you turn her around. That's actually very pretty but unfortunately the design itself isn't great I intend to change them eventually.

 

I actually spent some time styling the wig a little (the bangs) with wig wax, because it really needed something. One thing about the wig though is that a cloth head cap doesn't really fit underneath it. That is, it fits, but by being raised just a tiny bit because of the thickness of the cloth the wig looks weird. I'm actually not sure if the black lining on the wig cap stains or not, it doesn't look dyed, compared to Yaya's or Sakuya's. I may try using it without a head cap and see if it stains at all.

My accidental second Rin arrived at my house few days ago and just got shipped off to her new owner today >w< She's going to be very well traveled!

 

I'm happy to see pictures of even more Rins now! Has anyone been keeping up with all of the Fate/news from Anime Japan? I'm hopeful that Sakura will get a second release with the Heaven's Feel movie. *w*

Nice seeing all the Rin's in new homes. I get the impression Billy's Saber may have a little devil on her shoulder telling her to "push," and a little angel telling her "not to push."

 

Rin does look great with Asuna's wig on too. Asuna is on my short list of dolls to get, so I may have to try that.

 

She is very beautiful. I think her mouth is prefect for her face. Honestly though I sort of think of Rin as looking more natural with a more serious expression. Again to me she is like Natsuki Kuga from Mai Hime. This Rin is more like Mai. Still she is an awesome doll, and I am very glad I got her even at horrible after market prices.

 

Her default outfit is great, but her school outfit is over the top awesome.

I tried putting on Yaya's cute 8" Crobi wig on Rin, but Rin's head is too big and it doesn't fit (not as gigantic as Miku's, but much larger than Yaya/Sakuya/Melty). Sakuya's powder-brown 8" wig Crobi wig is slightly larger, and fits Rin nicely. Very nicely. I bought some hair extensions when I originally bought the wig but didn't use them until now,

Note, I had to cheat and darken the tops of her eyes a bit in those two photos

Oh foo, the styling on your Rin looks fantastic; both wigs are styled so beautifully! I'm interested to see how your wig test turns out. I think her wig fits much better without a wig cap underneath, but I've been too afraid to try it out myself. >_<;;

 

Wolf, your girl looks great, too! I'm so in love with all the effort Volks put into the school uniform. I'm especially appreciative of the loops they put in the blouse sleeves...makes putting on her jacket so easy!

Foo she looks fantastic in that brown wig. The blue in her eyes, color of the wig, and her shirt are perfect together. Her face has just the right amount of color too.

Thanks I didn't intend to keep her in that, I'd really like her to look more like Rin (darker hair).

Well, after two days there weren't any stains on DDH-09. There was one faint, circular darkish spot, but that may not have been from the wig. Still, it was on the vinyl for two days and didn't soak any visible amount of dye, so that's pretty good. Also, I put a DD2 foot in her socks, and put that in a shoe, and it didn't stain for two days. So the socks are reasonably safe ^^ I didn't wash them either. They look like they're made from the same stuff of the recent release of Moe & Natsuki's sets.

But she looks like she's staring far off into the distance. I took a photo of her from the front and tried moving the eyes around in Photoshop, I thought maybe putting them a little closer to the nose would look more natural. At first it looked a bit better, then after more tweaking and trying a few things I ended up with her looking cross-eyed. So then I hid those layers so I could see the original, unmodified image and that looked really strange too

When I removed Godeater Alisa's eyes last autumn I noticed there was a whack load more glue than any other doll I've ever encountered.

 

Ok - I lied - I didn't remove her eyes, I was lazy and had PlasticFantastic do it, and then listened to her complain about the glue while she was at it

I popped mine's head in the freezer for ~10 minutes cause the glue did NOT want to come out. With a little help from a pair of tweezers they came right out after chilling.

 

Her movement/vinyl is really nice and smooth! My Alter 2nd is very stiff and squeaky in comparison. Takane's the smoothest DD I've encountered though, even more than Rin.

I did the freezer trick as well. She definitely benefited from having her eyes adjusted.

Hey guys, A little late to the party! My Rin arrived today a few days before my birthday, I was able to get her for a very fair price from someone kind enough to sell her to me on the forum ^^ she is my dream girl, and though I will be paying her off for a little while she was completely worth it! It's very surreal and I couldn't be more happy with her.

I still have to fix up her eyes and deal with clothes as needed, but does anyone know if her skirt will stain? It's lined, but I'm concerned about the black threads that are still there. The other stuff should be easy to wash but if anyone has more info at all let me know!

I had her outfit on her for two months with no stains. The only parts she didn't wear were the socks, and scarf. She was on a stand, so the dark parts of the skirt never touched her thighs. No issues around her waist though. I tried the outfit with a coolcats shorts style body stocking first, but the shirt fits too tightly to put something under it.

 

I was really hoping Volks had gotten smart about clothing dyes, but then my Hatsune Miku got stained all over from hers. Granted the recent lottery may have been from old stock.

Thanks for the info! The skirt is lined and all, but there are black threads coming through where the snaps in the back are and that was a big problem with the Mikuzukin set I had issues with a while back, so I'm probably still paranoid about it.

 

Where did your Miku get stained? Her default is about the only safe thing I've put her in that wasn't white. If it came from her headphones or arm clips a clear coat of nail polish will fix that. Then there's the zipper on her boots that apparently does stain, she just needs socks under the boots for that.

They cleaned up with a few dream rescue treatments, but it was still disappointing. The lack of sleeves make it hard to fit protective underclothing, so it's pretty much useless unless I have something made custom.

How long was she wearing it? I didn't think it stained either. My Rin is in her school uniform, so I was able to pull out her default skirt and check. There are black threads across the white material near the snap, and she does have the same white threads in the image above but they are much less pronounced. You have to look at it almost edge on to see them.

 

What it appears to be is when they stitched the white and black material together there are a few spots where they had to stitch black thread on the white parts and white thread on the black parts. If you look closely at the white threads on yours it looks like they exit the white fabric near the edge of the skirt then renter the black fabric right on the edge. At least that's how it looks on mine. Sorry it's really hard to describe with words.

 

I have no idea if this is normal tailoring or just a manufacturing shortcut. Stitching two totally different colors together without having any threads of the wrong color show anywhere is probably pretty tough. Especially if you want the garment to remain natural in it's look and feel. I don't know if you can paint the white threads with fabric dye, but of course if that is possible then that dye might stain.

That's an interesting idea. I could probably manage to re-hem the separate parts. This issue with Miku is that her shoulders are bare, so the top calls for something shaped more like a swimsuit at the shoulders.

 

The staining is so light a few washes might even fix it. I could tape the interior of the boots at the edge.

 

Edit: I forgot to ask. Is that sweater she is wearing Kaleidoll? I have mine in a similar sweater, but in berry pink. It's almost the same color as her "Sakura" outfit so it matches her dark green wig well. The wig you have yours in is pretty awesome too.

I think all of them are. Volks used a black upper thread and white for the lower thread (in the bobbin) and sometimes it pulls through a little. If you're reaaaaally nuts about it you can probably wiggle the seams a bit very carefully from the bottom and try to pull the white areas back down. Personally I don't mind it much as it's nothing I can't photoshop out, and I'd rather protection from staining. In this case it's the thought that counts, lol.

FYI it's normal for manufacturing, it's just kind of more apparent to us on doll clothes because they pieces are at 1/3 scale with more or less 1/1 scale stitching.

 

I'm more upset that mine has a nasty stitching error on the collar of the coat. I haven't even bothered opening it cause of the flaw. It's like baby's first sewing mistake too Basically they missed a couple stitches around the corner of the collar so the stitching is uneven and not symmetrical with the other one. Can take pics if anyone wants to see.

I can fix it but it's kind of disappointing getting expensive doll clothes with flaws. Plus, effort.
