BeyondTime Posted April 7, 2016 Personally I don't mind it much as it's nothing I can't photoshop out, and I'd rather protection from staining. In this case it's the thought that counts, lol.FYI it's normal for manufacturing, it's just kind of more apparent to us on doll clothes because they pieces are at 1/3 scale with more or less 1/1 scale stitching. Yeah I kind of realized the scale of the items was making something you wouldn't notice on human clothing noticeable. Agreed that small imperfections in clothing are preferable to performing stain treatment, but the garment should at least fit right. The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be. “Empty wallets, full hearts.” That’s probably an apt description for the effects of DD addiction
foo Posted April 7, 2016 I forgot to ask. Is that sweater she is wearing Kaleidoll? I have mine in a similar sweater, but in berry pink. It's almost the same color as her "Sakura" outfit so it matches her dark green wig well. The wig you have yours in is pretty awesome too. Yup, it's from Kaleidoll. The wig she's wearing is the Doll Point wig, and is actually the same style as Melty's white wig that I use. The fibres are very different though, with the white wig having much softer & lighter strands, making it look a little fluffy. Also, moar Rin. I've got a reversible jacket where you can see a little bit of silver stitching on the back side. But it's a big jacket and it's right on the cuff, so it's not noticeable to anyone but me, really, and that's because I know where to look for it. Oh dear, did you have fit issues on yours? Mimiyo3 Posted April 7, 2016 I think I'm going to take a leap of faith with the skirt since no one else has had issues with it and washing it might not go over too well. I'm still gonna wash the socks because why not but the shirt is the big thing that needs it in my opinion. Idk if anyone else's turned out like this but there's red dye seeping into the white lining in some places on mine so, yeah. Not safe. This is the biggest one, the others are kinda hard to see in pictures but it's where the stitching is. Present! BeyondTime Posted April 7, 2016 I had no issues with the shirt, but red dye seepage is definitely worrisome. Going to check it when I go home this evening. Elagabalus Posted April 7, 2016 I'd just toss it in if you're gonna wash the socks anyway? I don't think the skirt would be a problem to wash either, provided all the items are in a lingerie bag or something. You might need to iron it a bit when you're done though. Yeah, that's the plan right now. I'm worried about throwing the skirt in because of the wires in it and all that. I may just put the body tape I have from Miku to use on the few black threads in the back to seal them off actually. It's very well lined otherwise and I haven't seen any dye seepage so I'm not as worried. Present! It's very well lined otherwise and I haven't seen any dye seepage so I'm not as worried. I checked my own and only found one spot where there might be seepage near one of the seams, but it's so light it's hard to tell if it's red bleeding off from the red thread, or if it's just the red fabric underneath showing through the white. I did find that the red does tend to show through the white and give it a pink tint in a few places, but if you manipulate it and separate the red and white fabric layers the pink tint disappears. I'm going to keep an eye on that one spot and see if it changes over time. She looks great in her school uniform so no rush to change her. In your first photo that one spot does look a lot like dye bleeding through, and the third photo is were I think it could be happening on mine, but it's really hard to tell if it's an optical illusion or not. Gabriel Posted April 9, 2016 I popped mine's head in the freezer for ~10 minutes cause the glue did NOT want to come out. With a little help from a pair of tweezers they came right out after chilling. I did the freezer trick as well. She definitely benefited from having her eyes adjusted. Just wanted to say that this was a great tip! Earlier this week, I struggled with Rin's eyes and made no progress whatsoever. I saw this advice and planned to give it a try this weekend. Today, after 10 minutes in the freezer, I had the eyes out after some very mild squeezing and minimal pressure to pop them out.
baldylox Posted April 10, 2016 Alright everyone, I have some semi bad news about Rin. Today, I checked her head for staining and she does indeed show signs of it beginning to start around the edges of her head cap and on top of her head. The stains are light right now but I know they will get darker if I don't give her a cap of some type soon. But this is nothing compared to the issue I had with her wig today. We took her downtown to a small convention and while everything was fine while we were there, she had an accident on the way home. We sat her in the backseat with her arms outstretched to prop her up in a seated pose. She was stable around corners and such so I figured she was okay. When we got home, it seems she had fallen over...... and broken off one of her twintails. It's not like she went flying across the seat or anything violent, she just fell over and landed in just the right way to break off that one side. I had heard her original wig was a bit fragile but I had no idea this transferred to the new ones too. Luckily, Becca was able to reattach it with her sewing skills so Rin is back to normal and looking fine. It just really killed me to know that the way Volks attaches their ponytails and twintails is so shoddy. I'm disappointed to say the least. So I figured I would warn people to be extremely careful with their Rin wigs so they don't have the same problem I did. Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop. I hadn't really thought about it, but you're absolutely right you could do exactly the same thing with the CRWML-80 wig in black. That powder brown wig you have her in looks awesome too. Seems very well made. I was already planning on ordering two wigs from For U for my Takane when she arrives, so I went ahead and ordered the one I listed above as well. So the funny thing is I went through Crobi's 9-10" wigs for Rin's big head and ended up getting a long straight wig and a long curly wig, trying to get something that'd match Rin. Before checkout I realized that they're this wig and this wig, respectively but in light black. Well WTH, I like them Miku's big head could use another 9-10" wig too. The next time I do a Taobao order I'll probably try something from For U, but I just want to try out some new wigs for Rin now, without waiting for shipping through a proxy That powder brown wig you have her in looks awesome too. Yeah, but I've been using that powder brown colour for about two years and I'm kind of powder browned out. LOL, I'd forgotten I'd found that one previously (I went on a taobao wig bender a while ago and everything is a blur). I just found it again and was coming back here to show everyone. I think it's so much nicer looking than her default, both in fiber quality (you can tell just from pics and knowing how Volks wigs are :\) and style. It looks much closer to UFOtable's design for her. Anyway yeah, that Rin wig from ForU is actually on preorder I think? You put a 10% deposit down, it looks like. I'm not sure if it's a preorder only wig or if they'll eventually offer it as (semi)permanent stock. I'd order and review it if I didn't have to get a TB order done before it would be ready to purchase. Maybe next time? Gotta go find a cotton wig cap cause all the wigs I want for Rin are stain monsters. I'm still so worried about the wig cap possibly staining the backs of her ears. Gotta go find a cotton wig cap cause all the wigs I want for Rin are stain monsters. I'm still so worried about the wig cap possibly staining the backs of her ears. Ear stains are usually the worst to remove. Mine has been in a wig cap since she arrived, and I have removed her wig a few times to check for bleed through. Haven't seen any. Edit: Actually I looked at the For U page again, and I think I see where you got the pre-order info. They list the pre-sale as closed. When I was just viewing the page last night it gave me this cute little timeline and deposit thing which I'd never seen before on taobao: Basically you pay 10% and pay the other 90 when it's in, which is pretty common for taobao sales. I'd just never seen an actual taobao supported timeline until last night. Saw it on another wig of theirs I think as well? BUT, I see now that I can't actually put either the Rin wig or its silver counterpart in my cart. That's also different to every other out of stock TB listing I've ever encountered so this is a new mystery to me. This is what happens when I lave my TB order alone for a month T_T. Taobao, stop rolling out new features on me!! I just now got accustomed to your newish site. Did you ask your proxy to inquire about it, or did they just let you know it was out of stock without saying anything else? I haven't checked to see if ForU has a way for us foreigners to contact them directly but I figure since we're all interested in the wig it's worth asking! If it comes back in stock we could do a group order or something as there's what, at least 3-4 of us that would like a replacement? I didn't intend to order one right now as I have to get a TB order in before a convention date, so I wasn't gonna bug my proxy about it. But now I'm just thinking I should go ahead and ask >_> Anyway, you're probably right about the preorder period just being over. After the wig comes out I imagine that it would be available for purchase as regular stock. Re: Ear stains - that's what I'm worried about :T. I really want this wig for Rin but I'm so worried that it will have a dark inner cap. I think I'm gonna get it anyway and hope. I went looking for cotton wig caps on TB last night. I figure I'll make my own as I have materials and wasn't impressed by the fit on the ones I was seeing. Is there any good way to guard against ear stains or do I just have to hope? Edit: I'll leave a comment when I submit my order (hopefully within a day or two) and ask about the wig since I'm ordering something from ForU. Mimiyo3 Posted April 11, 2016 Welp, my Rin is having ponytail issues too and I am pissed. It's not totally off yet but it's coming off... Sadly this sort of crap is common with any volks clothes I have and every time it happens I can see that it happened because they didn't knot their threads. I'm really mad about this because it takes a few seconds to do. This is just so freaking lazy! Anyways, Here's some pictures of it, because why not. The normal one. No doubt it will need fixing very soon as well... Here's the one that's falling off. Let's hope it holds out until Thursday when I can have my friend help me fix it. baldylox Posted April 11, 2016 Awwww Mimiyo! I'm so sad to see you had the same problem! That totally sucks. WHY can't Volks do things correctly on these? Not only were the original Rin wigs super fragile but so are the Yoko ponytails, the Saber Lily ponytails and now these new Rin wigs. It seems Volks has absolutely NO IDEA how to properly sew/attach/stitch ponytails onto wigs! IT'S NOT THAT HARD GUYS! Luckily my GF was able to sew mine back together and it looks just fine. And to make sure the other twintail didn't have the same problem in the future, she put some stitches into it so it's now more solid. Hopefully neither one will come loose again. Seriously Volks, we give you so much praise, so much money and so much love..... why can't you pay attention to things like this? It's things like this that make buyers not want to do business with you again. Billy PS. Who am I kidding.... I'm a Volks whore thru and thru, I just can't say no to them. <> I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.
Elagabalus Posted April 11, 2016 I still have no idea why they're not using the little hair clips (as Wolf so lovingly called jaws of death) with wefts attached since you can remove and re-position them for easier wig care. You get fuller pony/twintails with them too. My only guess is that Volks view DDs more as figures and not for playing with, so they expect you to just dress them up and sit them on a shelf? I thought it was industry standard to have the little hair clips. Overall both Rin and Takane's default outfit quality is pretty disappointing to me. I'm really mad about this because it takes a few seconds to do. This is just so freaking lazy! So far that makes for several clothing related problems, and some hair problems. One thing I am grateful for is that the dolls themselves seem to be well made. I've had Volks clothing come with loose buttons and snaps, but I can fix that. Bad Vinyl would be impossible to deal with. The only two LE Volks wigs I have that feel like they are quality are Mio Akiyama's and Hatsune Miku's original. That wig is the one I ended up ordering in place of the other one. I ordered a few wigs from Crobi and For U this weekend. I saw some additional wigs on both sites that I want, but first I want to try the fit of the wigs before ordering more. I'm mindful of Foo's mention of Rin and Miku's big heads. If the wig is the sort that can cover the protective cap with the hair fibers I usually just pull the protective cap down over the ears. If not I am always super careful to make sure the wig cap doesn't touch the ears or extend over the protective cap. The issue of course is with a doll Like Sakura Shinguji you have wig cap visible around the edges. She looks perfectly fine from the front where her bangs and twin tails cover the cap, but from the sides it's obvious she's wearing protection. The good thing is her face is so cute you want to look at her from the front anyways. I may go the same route Foo pointed out and get the Crobi wig with the hair extensions. It's much longer than her default, but curled it might be pretty nice. I don't know if their wigs are heat resistant though. They don't specify. They seem to sell wigs that are very similar except one version is straight and the other curled. I still have no idea why they're not using the little hair clips (as Wolf so lovingly called jaws of death) with wefts attached since you can remove and re-position them for easier wig care. It was actually the machine translation Foo provided that said "Jaws of Death." The hair clip method makes a lot of sense to me. Plus you can use the extensions to make other styles. Crobi's site shows their extensions used in a variety of ways, and also they sell tinted extensions that can be styled into the wig to make hair streaks. Sadly they are sold out of those. Maybe Volks has licensing limitations on it's LE dolls, and has to produce them exactly accordance with a specific design stipulated by the license holder. Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be. “Empty wallets, full hearts.” That’s probably an apt description for the effects of DD addiction
foo Posted April 12, 2016 FYI Crobi's wigs don't stain, they used light colored and non-dyed wig caps. My only guess is that Volks view DDs more as figures and not for playing with, so they expect you to just dress them up and sit them on a shelf? That's what I was implying when I said they made Rin the ultimate Tohsaka collectable to just stare at When they make the non-fullset outfits, like Tenshi no Koromo, LPC Black Label, etc, they design the outfits based around reliable materials they can easily source in large quantities. Like the embroidered obi thing on this outfit, or the patterned fabric that the bow is made of in this outfit, I'm sure they just source large quantities of that stuff and they might make multiple outfits out of that material. OTOH, things like Uzuki's Skirt they have to manufacture to a specific design. That skirt's pattern is just printed on, so it actually rubs off if you're not careful. For the really fancy fullsets they do go all out manufacturing stuff, I guess it depends on how much money the license holder is willing to put up. I wouldn't call those sets extra durable, but the difference between those two and Yaya's, for example, is huge. If done right, the pattern on Yaya's kimono would be embroidered, there'd also be some on her skirt, and she'd actually have a bow on the back. It was actually annoying because I got Yaya and this outfit at the same time. The outfit really didn't cost that much, but the difference in quality was incredible, like the way that the red ribbons are on the socks.
Elagabalus Posted April 12, 2016 I'm mindful of Foo's mention of Rin and Miku's big heads. For the record, my Rin fits just fine in an old Volks DD (8-9") wig. Size could be a problem if the doll has to wear a protective cap underneath, but if you don't have to worry about staining then 8-9" should be alright. I guess it depends on how each company produces their wigs. I know Licht tends to make their wig caps a bit stretchy/with a bit of elastic in them, so here's to hoping that ForU does as well. I also have Crobi wigs from a few years ago. Based on how they look and feel, they almost have to be heat-resist? You can probably ask them on their Q&A board if you're really worried about it, but I've found that most companies other than Volks primarily use heat-resist fibers. They also have that distinctive softer shine to them than non heat resistant wig fibers do. I've met a few odd heat-resist wigs for humans that were oddly shiny, but even then, that sheen is still way different from ye olde Volks wig. I put that wig in my cart as well, Wolf. I'm hoping it's not going to be a staining issue, and that I'll be able to cover up any cotton cap that might peek out. Luckily I've got flesh toned fabric that should match Rin pretty well for making a cap, and I can photoshop out anything that might sneak into photos. I'm addicted to jaw of death wigs cause it's like getting 2-3 wigs in one. Gotta love machine translation! 3 of the 4 wigs I have in my TB proxy's cart have at least one extension clip. I may have a problem. Please send help /)_(\. Black lives matter
