Obitsu 50-04 Head Eye Size

Recommended Posts

Hustic

Can the Obitsu 50-04 head only work with 18mm eyes ? Or can I use larger ones... I'm not familiar with the eye replacing process so I'm not sure what the size does to play into it other that the pupils looking larger or smaller. Sorry for the newbie question!

Thanks~

Obitsu heads either come with or without eye pockets. Heads without eye pockets built in are like other DD and BJD heads wherein you can use eyes of different sizes(up to a certain point lol) and use putty to keep them in place. Eye pocket heads generally only take eyes of the recommended size because of the way they were molded. To insert the eyes, you'd have to warm up the head with a hair dryer to make it more pliable and then stick the eyes in. If the eyes are of the recommended size, it should fit into place by itself. You could use smaller eyes in them, but you would probably need some putty anyway to keep the eyes secure. They can be really handy but personally I don't really like them because they can be fiddly. Some people also cut out the eye pockets completely so they don't have to deal with them. xD

I checked the parabox website and it seems that the 50-04 Mafuyu head uses 20mm eyes instead of 18mm? Also, looking at pictures of the head, it seems to use eye pockets. If you want to use larger eyes, I believe you can cut small slits in the eye pockets so that it can accommodate larger eyes. Either that or cut them out completely. xD;;;

Wow, super duper thank you for all the useful info!

I seem to be misinformed haha. It's a custom 50-04.. and I thought the person who did the custom said that they had 18mm eyes in. But I suppose that they could have just done what you said and removed the pockets. Either way it seems doable. I bought her some 20mm eyes to switch out later down the line as I want to bring her to a convention and have her cosplay with me.. I hope its easy to figure out. Thanks again!

Your welcome! If the custom head you have was from a faceup artist from yahoo japan auctions, then most likely they already cut out the eye pockets. At least I usually see that they cut them out from the item descriptions! ^^" I tend to see them with 20 or 22mm eyes, so I'm really interested in seeing your 50-04 if she really has 18mm eyes. I like smaller irises because it makes the face seem instantly more mature myself.

I find that everything makes a whole lot more sense once you have everything in hand. Good luck!

My Mafuyu (Rini) uses 18mm eye's. I like the look. They fit in the eye pocket's very good.

elianti is right. I recently acquired an Obitsu 50-04, and attempted to fit a pair of 18mm eyes. I think whether or not you like the look is subjective/aesthetic, but at least with mine I found that you really need to use eye putty to keep them from rolling around in the sockets. Maybe just luck?

I'm super happy with the pair of Volks 20mm she now has. Going with 22mm would be a literal stretch.
