Rin Shibuya 2nd Release??

Yeah, Rin v1 goes for ~120k+ now I think? Or at least she did before v2 came out. You can get a v2 for < 90k on YJA right now it seems. From the pictures I've seen I think I prefer the v2 faceup but one could get a lighter custom faceup on a v1 of course since they have the same sculpt.

 

Either version is going to be great in person. I did like the face-up on the new one when I saw photos. Rin has one of the more unique faces in the IM@S lineup. I swapped wigs between my Chihaya and Makoto, and realized they could each pass for the other. They are different in small ways, but really close to each other. Especially when compared to Takane who is really unique.

No Rin here either. Me and IM@S girls just aren't meant to be I guess.

one think i realised about this new rin, her face is quite rough, i mean the surface of the vynil.. unlike Sheryl and Anastasia which i own, their surface is smooth.. is this normal to the new dollfie dream?

I took a look at my Rin Shibuya V1 and Rin Tohsaka V2 and I don't see nay difference in terms of the vinyl. I do think the SWS skin dolls have smoother vinyl than NS dolls. My Takane is smoother than both of them.

owh really, i think the NS vynil is somehow changed.. i don't know.. because it feels a bit grainy when i touch shiburin..

She likely got oversprayed when she went through the sealing process. If all of her head is rough, it might have been the mold she was pulled from, or a weird batch of vinyl, or vinyl that was cured too hot/too cold/etc.

My Rin Arrived today. ^^ Here's a comparison between version 1 and 2 for anybody interested

 

 

Mostly the same really just slightly more blush and overall brighter look. The colour in the vinyl seems to be very slighty different but I imagine that happens between batches.

I can confirm the whole head is much rougher than all other DD of mine. But i'm more worried about how squishy the head is.. I thought only the headcap is soft, but i can actually squeeze the head without trying

A squishy head sounds strange to me. My Rin Tohsaka V2, and Takane Shijou, both of whom are recent releases, don't have that issue. Unless Volks decided to do something totally different this time around I wouldn't expect Rin Shibuya V2 to be any different than any other DD released this year.

 

Of course that doesn't rule out Volks making a change. You would think they would announce a change from hard to soft vinyl though.

My Takane doesn't have that issue either, and she's super smooth as well. Does that mean ayanenana13 and I got her from the same bad batch? There're just not enough Rin v2 owners out there so it's kinda hard to ask

I know the head on my Rin Tohsaka v2 is softer than my other girls, but I don't feel like doing a squishing contest right now. It's obvious when you have to pull the head off, because the vinyl's softer it slides off the neck joint more easily.

Huh. Now that I mess with them a bit I do notice Rin has a softer head than my other girls, and I have a Takane too. She's not too much softer but it is noticeable. My Takane actually has a rather hard head compared to everyone else.

I take another look at all the dolls i have and realize Rise and Asuna also have soft heads. Since Rise is quite old, i can only hypothesize that there are inconsistencies in vinyl batch/decay cycle of the material, so that it will soften over time? For newer dolls maybe Volks did change the formula.

 

That however still didn't explain the roughness on Shiburin's face, and i plan to take some macro shots of her soon. I just hope that the softness doesn't mean that the vinyl will be easier to stretch/shrink under temperature or handling and damage the faceup.
