Rin Shibuya 2nd Release??

I'd say from 2PM JST to....well the next day mattering one how things are going for them. I can remember a couple of lotteries where I got results a full 24 hours later than stated, though those were with SDs each time.

 

Hopefully, you get some sort of rest though! I think waking up to a winning results is actually a amazing. Is a nice way to perk up your day. ^^

 

 

Thank you for the info! I will try to rest, for sure, but I don't think I will. I didn't win Rin the first time around and I'm hoping to have a better chance with the rerelease. I already have v1 default outfit and the new generations outfit. Just need to get Rin home finally.

It sounds like the emails will be sent to winners starting from May 18 to May 20. At least, thats what I got from the rough translation of Volks DD twitter.

Recognize that there are loads of different DD you can buy out there, both old ones and releases yet to come. Find a different doll that you want that's already out, wait and get excited about another new release later, or wait for a good deal to pop up on Shiburin if you decide that you really want her after all.

 

I feel your pain and yeah, it stinks sometimes. It turns out that hunting skills and extreme patience are both required parts of the dollfie hobby. Lottery direct from Volks is but one small way to get a doll, so in truth it is not the end of the world each time you lose a lottery. It will happen a lot. Time to regroup and try something else!

I was pretty disappointed when I didn't win Rin and Takane, and to make matters worse hardly anyone on the forum won the international lottery for them. I won a Hatsune Miku in the next lottery though.

 

If what you are after is a DD and not a specific character you might consider some of the standard dolls, or buying a body and blank head and having it painted by a face-up artist.

I think I'll wait for the next Dolpa releases. Maybe something great will come out !

Seems I'm the only person that won a Rin that I know of... O.o And we won Arle too. This is kinda boggling me. I feel so excited but also bad that so few won. I only entered in once for each so maybe that helped? In the previous 2 or 3 lotteries I tested entering in twice for some dolls and didn't win so there might be something to that? I asked someone at Volks before if I two people at the same address could enter once each for the same doll and they said it would be fine but I have my doubts about that.

 

Usually the results go out at once but hoping more go out tomorrow for everyone here. Results usually go out between 7pm and 9pm Tokyo Time

@ Cotton- That means midnight of the 20th but likely it'll be the times I just said. It's currently just 10.20am in Tokyo.

 

One thing to consider is Snow Miku is getting released soon and it could be that due to production of her and maybe other things meant a lower quantity was released of the dolls from this Dolpa. Certainly this is the first time that I know of where they start shipping the dolls within days of results being announce so again if the quantities were on the smaller end this might make sense as they'd be more manageable? Just a theory but then again there are loads of people that don't announce their results so maybe just more of them won this time.

Volks rule is one entry per person per item at Volks stores or the web store, and on entry per person per item at the dolls party. It's not one entry per address. If they only allowed one entry per address they would say that. If you submit more than one entry they invalidate the entry.

Awhile back someone commented on scalpers paying homeless people to stand in line for them at the Dollpa in order to get multiple entries. Volks does have issues with cheaters, but I am inclined to believe that they will be very up-front about their rules and stick to them. The scalpers cheat on lotteries, but Volks doesn't is what I am saying.

 

The lottery system itself isn't transparent, and the fact is that scalpers are very good at beating the system and that does deprive honest collectors.

Buyee is only one proxy. There are others out there, and at least one forum member has had issues with Buyee. I've never had any problems with them personally.

 

Just an FYI with YJA proxies. I believe YJA gives the seller up to 2 weeks to ship to the proxy who will then ship to you, so if you buy from YJA and expect to get it fast you may be disappointed. EMS from Japan to another country can take over a week and sometimes several depending on customs. If you are in the EU customs may hold the item at a processing center if VAT is owed. In the US there are no customs fees on dolls, so you are just at the mercy of their workload. NY and LA customs tends to take longer than SFO.

I know vinyls are supposed to be very hard even impossible to recast. When I was in China there were reputable department stores selling brand name goods at good prices, and there were stores selling bootlegs and knockoffs of those same goods a few blocks over. I don't think it's legal there, but it was much more common and open than it is here. Where I live knockoffs are sold out of peoples car trunk at the flea market, and not in storefronts in the local shopping district.

 

There were shops that sold very nice good made by genuine craftsmen in China too. Their ability to make quality goods definitely shouldn't be judged by the $5 shirts you get at K-Mart. Just about everything I have gotten off Taobao has been well made.

 

With an LE DD I am just very wary given the money involved. Taobao for a doll just goes beyond my own comfort level. Especially when the price is about half the current going rate.

I've seen that happen as well, I still have a few bootleg DVDs from China laying around somewhere. It's traditionally been a different culture in China with strict IP laws being a relatively new development and though things been changing for a while it's definitely changing faster on paper than irl.

I'd absolutely be wary if the price was that much lower as well, but I'd be equally wary, maybe even more so, if a doll was being sold that cheap on, say, ebay. I also would be more wary if I was buying something that's known to be counterfeited on a large scale of course.

It is totally possible to recast DDs in resin, especially if you're using the DDI since that body is strung just like a regular BJD.

 

The problem is when you get to the vinyl aspect of it. Vinyl is just really, really hard to produce in non-industrial settings.

 

Resin uses silicone molds. To make a silicone mold, you basically mix your silicone, shove your item in the silicone, and wait for it to set. To cast from the silicone mold, you basically mix your resin, pour it into your mold, and wait for it to set. Easy-peasy! This is why we have so many recast BJDs.

 

Vinyl uses metal molds. To make a metal mold, you go through the entire above process just to make a wax master. Then you use electroplating to make a metal mold from the wax master. Then you have to heat up your vinyl, pour it (while hot!) into the metal mold, and rotate the hot metal mold to ensure an even application. (Some vinyl you can pour into a cold metal mold, but you still have to heat it to cure it, so no matter what, you're dealing with some very hot, heavy metal molds.) And all that work is before you even get to the internal skeleton!!!

 

So you could make a bootleg DD, but it would be a very long and expensive process.

 

Anyway, back to TaoBao:

So my spidey sense was right it was just tingling for the wrong reason.

And yeah too good to be true is basically why I passed them by without a second thought.

 

I've looked at Jungle for used DD, but I don't like the way their details on used dolls are hit and miss. A lot of their listings have no photos and no description beyond the item name. I don't like to buy any used DD blind. I'm fine if repair work is needed as long as I know what I am getting into.

 

I can recommend Rin Shibuya v1 as a Rin option, but I think she will be rarer and more expensive. Her idol dress is beautiful but it stains and you can't really put a body suit under it. You have to apply tape to the shoulder straps, and use something more like a slip to protect her. I use one with a lace edge so it looks like it's part of the dress where it shows around her bustline. Done right she looks spectacular in it, and you have to look close to see the tape on the straps.

 

I use the Volks DD tape in Normal skin so it blends in, but never apply the tape to the doll itself. I did once and it left weird lines on the vinyl. They disappeared on their own after a few days, but I never did that again.

 

Either way with V1 or V2 definitely get a head cap to protect her head from the wig cap. Unless they changed it Rin v1 had a black wig cap and it's sure to stain her head.

Congratulations to those that won! I feel sort of sad on losing another idolmaster doll lottery but at the same time happy because I can save what I was going to spend on Rin on the upcoming Miku outfit instead.

I agree, Jungle really should improve on their webshop. I recently bought a SD16 Ryo from them and the description was really vague with just a picture of the box so I had to ask them to clarify. Yeah, Rin v1 goes for ~120k+ now I think? Or at least she did before v2 came out. You can get a v2 for < 90k on YJA right now it seems. From the pictures I've seen I think I prefer the v2 faceup but one could get a lighter custom faceup on a v1 of course since they have the same sculpt.
