The Best "Worst" Problem You Have

When it comes to buying things (or collecting in general) it seems like everyone has at least one special thing they have a certain kind of "luck" with. I say luck because maybe like myself, rare things that you look for or have always wanted may come up when you don't really have money. But of course, they are such a great price you can't pass them up.

 

 

What is your lucky "thing?" Mine apparently is Dollfie Dreams on Y!Japan. Lol. I've "accidently" won two for a pretty good price in the last week. Bye bye money! Does anyone else have this problem and if so what is it with?

Because I wanted to start focussing on dolls, I decided to move away from collecting nendoroids, and I thought this would be easy because they werent really making any characters I like anymore.

Then, BAM! Goodsmile announces 4 characters I feel like I just have to have, and they probably all come out next year. With my luck, in the same month. I mean seriously...I usually only buy one nendoroid a year since I tend to only buy the ones I REALLY want (the exception was this year when I got 3) but FOUR?! That probably doesnt sound like much to most people who collect these things, but when you're short on space and every bit of saved money counts...not to mention when you're so used to characters you like never getting merch...

Everyone else is celebrating these characters getting nendos and meanwhile I'm sitting here all 'noooooooooo' as my plans to move away from nendoroids crumble before my eyes.

That sounds about right! Of course, whenever you're completely ready to give up one thing and move on something shows up that makes you want to buy both. Haha! That's okay though, in my opinion any chance to get characters you like from something that doesn't typically have a lot of merch is great! Even if it is bad for our wallets.. Hopefully they all are released around tax return month for you. Maybe that would help out a little bit!

 

I was going to ask which Nendoroids! I don't think I've seen those ones before. I'll check them out. Where do you usually get your Nendoroids from? Amiami is pretty reasonably priced usually.

Yep, amiami is my site of choice. I use them almost exclusively so that I can rack up points, plus I find them the cheapest.

EDIT- Most of them have only been announced as a confirmation that they would become nendoroids, they arent any actual prototype images of any yet except for Clear (and he isnt coloured yet). So at least they probably wont be out for a good while.

I mainly collect pokemon merch, and there have been several times when some of my grails pop up on yahoo japan at the wrong times. It's actually happening right now xD;;; I've been on the lookout for a particular plush in mint and tagged condition for a while. I checked y!j almost daily for it after after losing one auction very early this year but it didn't show up... until last week. I also lost that one(the other person bidding was pretty serious and I already bid a bit more than what I already put aside for grail emergencies lol;;, and then another one popped up again yesterday. Not quite sure if it's really lucky or not but I hope I win it this time! Still, I'm anxious because I have had quite a losing streak with this item.

This is my first time hearing about this!! I don't collect nendoroids but Cyan would be so cute! I hope she has a myuumon faceplate. I'd love to see the rest of Plasmagica (and Shingancrimsonz) in nendo forms too.

Myuumon faceplate would be cute, but then she would need separate hair pieces as well since her myuumon hair is black rather than blue. ...Although this discussion should probably be in the nendoroid/figma thread oops.

 

I'm really hoping I'm not ''lucky'' at Wonfest and that theres not too much doll stuff I want. I already know if I see a nice enough custom head for sale I'll probably buy it, and I'm almost hoping there isn't any so I have more money to spend on clothes for my Eiji.

I suppose Azone Pureneemos are my best worst problem. xD I got into collecting them pretty late, in the spring of 2014 so there were many older releases that I really liked but had become rather difficult to obtain - at least for a reasonable price. The Komorebimori no Doubutsutachi series is a good example, they often go for anything between 18k-30k yen these days. But I don't generally want to pay 20k+ for small dolls when their retail price has been around 12k yen back when they were released, sooo... I've spent a lot of time browsing Y!J auctions and Mandarake searching for the perfect deals.

 

Well, the first doll that I got from the Komorebimori series, Usagi-san Miu, I ended up paying 30k yen for, because it seemed impossible to find her for a lesser price at the end of 2014... of course now a year later I've seen some deals for her on Y!J between 18k-24k yen, but... there's no point in regretting it now. xD She was my absolute favourite of the series, so I thought that she's worth paying extra for. But to compensate, I didn't want to pay quite as much for the other girls in the series. :'D Luckily I've been able to find Bambi-san Raili and Ookami-san Himeno for 14~16k and for Neko-san Aika I paid around 18k I think... so I've been very happy about those. I've also found some other older releases (fullset or missing stockings/other small accessories, but the rest of it complete) between 8k~14k yen. I suppose that explains how in about a year's time my collection has gone from 3 to around 20 girls, ahem...

 

Of course I've also missed out on some good deals, like I can never seem to be able to get myself a Yuuta or Aoto because my favourites are all older releases that tend to go for 24k-28k yen, and every time that there's a good deal my money is tied somewhere else and I miss out. """oTL I am cursed with the Azone boys it seems, lol. xD Well, perhaps one day I will luck out...

 

I'm also thankful that I was able to find DD Sheryl Nome on Y!J for a reasonable price. I was afraid that I'd never get her because I missed out on the preorder and a lot of times the second hand prices for DDs are way more that I'm willing to pay (thus I will probably never get Sasara or Beatrice, I just can't bring myself to pay that much for a doll even though I know it's rare and you can't get it for any cheaper). But I suppose thanks to the fact that she was a pre-order doll and not from a lottery (and a popular release at that), there were some reasonable offers too and I didn't end up paying too much extra for her. Living in the EU I'm also riddled with high customs fees, and paying extra for a doll also means extra customs charges, so that's one more reason to try and find as good deals as possible. =A=;;

 

I've also bought some figures second hand... I'm still haunted by a couple of figmas that I want but can't find for the price that I'd want to pay for them (mainly cleaning ver. Levi and Armin from SnK). ~__~

I find all the best deals on dolls I want, often ones I'm currently searching for or ones that rarely show up and they're usually around for as long as I can't afford them. The instant I get near that threshold though? Gone. I'm still sulking a bit because a pretty cheap original illya I was stalking on manda just got snatched... That's the only time I've seen her in aftermarket so far. Hopefully another one turns up soon(ish) so I can get my illya twins!

My best "worst" problem is being unable to pass up completely perfect deals on my "maybe one day" girls. xD That's how I ended up with both a complete Nia and a complete Yoko within a year of each other. The deals were too good for me to pass up. The only thing better for me than a full set for those two girls were those two girls will their full sets, pre order swimsuits, and with Nia, her parker set... and I got them for an awesome price. That also meant giving up a unicorn for me. That's what makes it a "worst" problem!

The Best "Worst" Problem that I have... that easy.. my car is paid-off, student loans are paid-off, no cell phone bill, no cell phone payment, braces are paid-off, etc....

 

You would think that I have a surplus on extra income and saving.. quite the opposite

For me, I am cursed with having series that I like suddenly getting a lot of goods/coming back into popularity/etc, JUST when I get into them. Happened with a few things, including Yugioh and DRAMAtical Murder..... Sucks though, because I am a poor college student and do not need to want more things.

It sucks that Soom keeps on releasing the sculpts I can never say no to...and those sculpts are pretty pricey on the second hand marketplace so getting them from Soom is so much better even though I'm always broke when they re-release my favorite sculpts >_
