Clothing Sizes for Obitsu 60cm Male?

Recommended Posts

Noxxbunny

So I have some newbie questions, since there's sort of a steep learning curve here with me and different sizes.

So I'm a bit confused on what'll fit and what won't so far(I REALLY hate being that person who has to send items back because of my own mistakes.)

All I know is that I'm to look for clothes marked SD, but I don't know what crosses over and what doesn't. For example, I've bought 3 shirts and a pair of leggings marked SD so far and they all fit well enough. One of the 3 is admittedly a bit ill-fitting in the shoulders and sleeves though. 2 of the shirts were described as "Will fit Ringdoll, Luts, Soom, Dollmore, B&G, Doll Love" and the other was described to fit "SD DZ AOD DOD LUTS 1/3" so does that generally mean that I can buy shirts made for those dolls all the time as long as they aren't fitted tightly or anything? Or is it just a "depends on the seller" sort of thing?

And I'm also totally lost if actual SD size by Volks will fit(SD13 specifically), since people seem to use it as a term for 1/3 scale dolls in general. I see a lot of SD13 clothes I like, but I worry that they'll be too small or tight. I'm really not sure.

I apologize if the answers for these questions are actually really obvious. I tried to compare the measurement charts and things and I just end up confusing myself more. I am horrendous with numbers. And I mostly don't know what I'm doing yet. I'm less than a month into this hobby. So any help for this lost newbie is much appreciated. It would save me a lot of headaches.

(for reference i have two Obitsu's one 2 and one 3 piece body)

I use SD and SD13 for my two boys. its hard since they use the female body's his hips don't fit all male trousers.

Shirts i just get big baggy tops to cover the lady hips

I use larger shoes on him to make them look bigger though.

Doll clothes and shoes sizes are a nightmare. I've bought my share of "things that don't fix" over the years. The labels "SD", "MSD", "SD13", etc. are extremely misleading. It's like going to the store to buy clothes for yourself and having the two size choices of "adult" and "teen". And we all know adults and teens come in lots of different shapes and sizes. Using those headings alone make clothes buying a craps shoot.

Unless you're buying from a manufacturer for that manufacturer's dolls (i.e. buying a Dollfie Dream outfit from Volks for your DD Saber), you really should go by the actual published measurements of the garment. If the maker/seller doesn't provide actual measurements, ask them what the measurements are or don't buy it, no matter how much you like it. You'll just be disappointed in the end. If a manufacturer says a garment fits one of their specific dolls, you can look up that doll and compare it's measurements with your intended target doll.

If a seller writes, "Will fit Ringdoll, Luts, Soom, Dollmore, B&G, Doll Love" or some other such vague description, they are just casting a wide net to attract as many potential buyers as possible. Sure, the garment will "fit" these dolls but on the Ringdoll it might be tight, on the Luts its baggy and the sleeves are too long, etc. The garment was probably tailored to fit one of those dolls and will sort of fit other dolls of similar size, but it will only look perfect on one specific doll. The amount of tailoring in a garment will also help determine it's compatibility with a wider range if dolls. That baggy knit sweater will look good on more dolls than that three piece business suit.

Once you establish the amount of compatibility of a specific doll with your target doll (i.e. XYZ seller's "SuperSD" line of clothes fit my doll but the pants and sleeves are too long), you can then buy from that source with a bit more confidence.

Shopping for an Obitsu 60cm male (or 65cm male) can be troublesome. Both Parabox and Azone make clothes specifically for Obitsu 50 and 60cm dolls, however most of these garments are for females. Parabox does make some male clothing for the 55cm male. Shirts, tops, and shorts in this line will fit the 60cm body as the 55cm and the 60cm use relatively the same upper body components. With the leg length being the big difference between the 55cm and 60cms, 55cm pants will be on the short side.

I'll be first third to chime in and say that I share your pain! I work with Parabox 40-and-45cm bodies bodies and they are very much in the MSD size range except for those big ol' child-bearing hips they got hanging out down there. I've had to buy two pairs of an underwear set - one "slim MSD" and one SD, just to get a matching top and bottom.

Things like SD, MSD, YoSD, etc, seem to be general size ranges and not a specific fitment guide for clothing. Especially for hand-made goods (such as from Etsy), they are often made to suit one kind of doll which, whilst inside the SD banner, might or might not be close enough to fit your doll.

Unfortunately the best advice I can give you is to A) get your dolls measurements (shoulder width, "three sizes", etc, and try to find articles of clothing that have details of the models in their stock photos. Compare your doll's size to that doll's size and if they are close enough, go for it. Especially for a guy, a little too big is probably better than a little too small. In most cases a "[doll model] size" will yield quick results.

I tend to only buy skirts and loose-fitting clothing unless the article specifically states it's for that body.

Thanks for the info. c: Do you maybe have any recommendations for places to buy clothes in those sizes? Maybe I'll just try to make a list of places that have the right fitting size.

Ah. I figured the sizing was probably like that. Now I'm rather curious how the trend of that kind of generic labeling started. I'll have to get to memorizing the measurements then lol. I suppose I'll get used to it eventually. Thanks for the explanation. It's very helpful.

Yeah, I'd definitely rather have too large than two small. Too small, and it's useless to me. A bit too big, I can probably at least alter it to fit better. I wish I could find any other clothes that are specifically for this body outside of Parabox. Seems no one in the handmade game gives Obitsu any love. That's where the guesstimating comes in.

I've have good luck with the stuff I got from Dollmore, Alice's collection, Tata's paradise and Tree Design. I also have shirts from Luts labeled "Delf" that fit him nicely.

Those are his favorite pants so I hardly change them^^ they are from Dollmore, SD size and they fit perfectly. The shirt is SD size, it came from a fullset, the pants from that fullset are too big on him. The hoodie was custom made for one of my SDs (Delf from luts).

20151210_123313_zpsuzgihg1s.png

The hoodie is from Tata's paradise labeled "SD10/SD13"

And all his other clothes are similar (he likes black mainly and the occasional white), they are all "SD". I recommend Dollmore the most, their clothes seem to fit this body very well. SD10 size would the right one for this body.

I have jeans that I have never tried on him because it is not his style (from luts, TTYA, Sadol, Tree design, Dollmore etc all in SD13 size). If anyone is interested in the SD13 jeans from those places I can take pictures.

So far:

Dollmore = tight pants/ SD shirts are good

Tata's paradise = shirts are good, some can be baggy

Tree Design = shirts are good

Luts = shirts in Delf size are good
