Gunter Posted December 10, 2015 Howdy~ Welcome to the hobby. I recommend not being afraid to Google what you like because you would have gotten access to some answers for these just that way. XD Volks official DD page: http://www.dollfiedream.tokyo/dd_en/ -It will have listed all their molds (Volks's and their Collaborations), and usually info on when they released will be found there. Dolpas (Doll's Party) are held on a regular schedule throughout the year, with misc pre-orders. They will have an After Event for every Dolpa in which you can enter online for the dolls, thus not having to go to the actual event to attend. You can simply get 20 posts on here and you'll have access to the Marketplace. There are other options to browse such as eBay (has good deals on occasion), Jungle, Mandarake, My Figure Collection, and Den of Angels (a primarily ABJD forum but allows DD--they have their own rules on getting into their marketplace). There is also Y!J but you need to use a Shopping Service to go down that road. And that's correct. There are no male DD's yet. Volks does have a project in the works that is Kagamine Len and Rin, which means they will make a boy, but seeing as he's effeminate to the max he probably won't be any bishonen god hahaha. (Won't look like a Free boy, that's for sure.)
Sticks-Ara Posted December 10, 2015 This may sound like a dumb question, but have you checked out the Volks website yet?? https://volksusastore.com/webstores/dollfie/index.php Or how about their international site?? https://www.volks.co.jp/?version=en Both sites have all the info you'll need, including what's available and what will be soon. They have standard dollfies available, not just the custom ones that come around at random. It's best to browse around and take your time. My wife & I just got our doll earlier this year, so we're still new to the hobby too. So I'm sure there are others who can offer more advice then I could. But I hope you find what you're looking for. My advice... Consider shopping from the international site. The yen is really cheap now, we got out dollfie for nearly $90 less then from the American site. Good luck. bjd_doll Posted December 11, 2015 Thank you I will check their website for more info ^.^ Just another question! my bestfriend is a guy and he hesitates to get one Dollfie Dream too (because he's a guy ㅡㅡ). I would like to tell him that many boys also like Bjd.. but I dont know know how to convince him T__T
tunedbysaturnsl1 Posted December 11, 2015 I'm a guy and I ended up buying the KOS-MOS DD from eBay for a really good price. (She's a main character from Xenosaga-PlayStation video game.)
Gunter Posted December 11, 2015 Honestly, the major population that collects DD are still male. In fact, one you could easily argue that the original market was designed to encourage more men than women to buy Dollfie Dreams. All female characters, clear emphasis on the female form in a more sexualized fashion, and a hard anime aesthetic that in Japan would appeal to a figure collecting market which is dominated ( and the ratio in super favor of) men. Unfortunately, you will have the stigma (and in JP too honestly) that you are adults and these are toys/dolls. It is up to him if he's okay with that fact, as not everyone can simply feel okay with turning away from the view that society has decided is appropriate. (I believe in do whatever you want, but as far I can tell that usually makes you an oddball XD). So not to be a bummer, but only he can really convince himself that he's okay with collecting dolls. If he needs to rationalize it, could just say they are giant action figures. That's what I call them. Honestly, as a woman I didn't find it easy to explain away collecting dolls either (as I'm an adult), but still the gender difference can change that entire discussion too. It is really, truly up for him to decide and convince himself. If he can't be comfortable with it then that's totally okay and completely within reason. No harm at just admiring something as well. Just so you know, Dollfie Dreams are not Asian Ball-Jointed Dolls. ^^;; At least Volks doesn't consider them that, and nor do most within the Dolly community as far as I can tell. They don't fit the criteria to be a BJD specifically.

Minuette Posted December 11, 2015 it's an oversized action figure Yeeeah. Gigantic figmas. My husband asks me all the time why I just don't collect figmas instead. Like Gunter said though, the main audience for DDs were initially Japanese 20-something male NEETS. The popularity of them among US owners and women is still something they're coming to terms with, I feel.
Sticks-Ara Posted December 12, 2015 it's an oversized action figure They're right. It is like an oversized action figure Here's the thing.... I'm a 47yo straight Latino male who just got into this hobby recently. I'll admit, it can feel a little odd at first, but once he gets into it he'll be glad he did. My own wife supports my interest, she doesn't judge me (hell, she dresses her too... Lol), my friends don't judge me, my brothers know me already and are glad I'm happy. It's just a hobby like anything else. It doesn't hurt anyone and I'm making new friends & getting lots of great advice & support from other collectors. Tell him I wish him luck if he decides to get his own dollfie.
Conuresans Posted December 12, 2015 Welcome! A lot of people here have responded with most of what I'd say, but I'll still chip in my two cents. 1. There isn't a 100% full list that I know of, however Volks DOES have a database of a good portion of the Dollfie Dreams they've created. The list of their standard and character models (Of their own characters) can be found here, while their collaboration models list (Dolls made of copyrighted characters from other companies) can be found here. Some dolls they don't have pages for, but with the name you can search it and most likely find more images of it. 2. Gunter already answered Dolls Party, but Volks does sell quite a few standard models you can buy at anytime through their website (Which Sticks-Ara has already linked you to, BUT VolksUSA just recently announced they're going to shut down their site for a while so I'd suggest going through International for that reason along with the fact it's much cheaper even with shipping costs.) 3. As mentioned previously, we do have a Marketplace you can access once you hit 20 posts, along with being able to post pictures and links. Other good places to check out are Mandarake, Jungle Entertainment, and Yahoo! Japan Auctions which if you don't live in Japan, you'll need a proxy for. Den of Angels is also good at times, but if you don't have time to look at those all the time, we do also have a section of forum for shopping/auction links to Dollfies for pretty good prices that aren't in our Marketplace. 4. And like said, there isn't a male Dollfie yet. And as for your friend, tell him it's alright to be into this sort of stuff. If he isn't comfortable sharing with people, he doesn't have to unless he wants to. Same goes with getting one, nobody is making him purchase it if he feels really, really uncomfortable with owning one right now. And it isn't like choosing a house, Dollfies are supposed to be for fun and personal pleasure. Hopefully this helps! battrastard Posted December 16, 2015 Just another question! my bestfriend is a guy and he hesitates to get one Dollfie Dream too (because he's a guy ㅡㅡ). I would like to tell him that many boys also like Bjd.. but I dont know know how to convince him T__T Take a look here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/rattwerks-gallerie/ I'm in my mid-50's, (54 & 1/2 in a few more days!!),and male. I've had Tana for over four years, and collected my other three in between. I also collect various Figmas, Busou Shinki, Nendo and Gundams! Don't let age or gender keep you or your bestfriend from doing anything you have an interest in! "Madness takes it's toll, Please have exact change!"

Battrastard is totally on point here. There are MANY male DD owners, that's the demographic Volks Japan aims for! But in the US and other places, males pretty much make up at least half the DD owners. I myself own 38 of them and I'm 45 years old. I like anime and manga and all sorts of toy stuff. I collect what I like and to hell with anyone who thinks that's wrong. Most often, people are accepting of the dolls that I take with me out and about town. Sure I've heard snide remarks and laughing but they never do it to my face. If they did, I'm sure they'd be upset to know that some of my girls are worth more than the car they drive. Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.

Pretty much everything Billy said applies to me as well, but he has more girls. I only have 14 including one Super Dollfie and one Obitsu. The Super Dollfie are really beautiful. I got into Dollfie because of my anime addiction, but ended up getting an SD recently. She's easily the most exquisite work of art I own, and extremely well made. One thing I recommend is check the Volks.co.jp site often for news. If you don't you can miss new releases and chances at a limited doll, but if you check our "News" forum often anything about new dolls coming out probably hits our forums before Volks has an official site for the doll. If you are going to look for limited edition dolls after market learn to use Yahoo Japan Auctions. The ebay markups are obscene. I recommend getting a stand, stain protective clothing, and a cloth head cap when you can afford them. The stand helps a lot when dressing them, and I live in earthquake country so I can't just take my chances balancing them on their feet. Stain clothing won't be necessary with Candy's white outfit, but if you want to to put anything with dark colors on her you will regret not having anti-stain clothing underneath. The wig cap may not be needed with her blond wig, but they are cheap, and can help a lot with holding the wig in place. The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be. “Empty wallets, full hearts.” That’s probably an apt description for the effects of DD addiction
