Rei and Ripper

I like DD scaled weapons.

 

There. I said it. That's a start to things....

 

So at the BJD Convention in Atlanta a few weeks ago, I found the most amazing looking weapon....

Yep, that's a 1/3 scale chainsaw! What's really cool about it is that it was 3D printed. I hadn't seen things quite so detailed before so I was really amazed at how it looked. The sizing was great too, here's Manami holding it in the hotel room.

This little monster was NOT cheap but I was able to talk to seller down about $25 to a more manageable price. After getting it home, I contacted my main faceup artist Eblktty and shot her some pics of the chainsaw. We talked about what I wanted it to look like and after agreeing on a theme, I got it to her and she got to work.

 

I was really looking forward to seeing it completed and after a few weeks wait, I finally got it back from Ebl at the doll meet this weekend. And suffice it to say, she did an OUTSTANDING job with it. I am truly in awe of how nice it looks and how many excellent details it has. Ebl really outdid herself with this and I can't say enuff good things about it. So I'll shut up now and just show you in photos.

 

Oh, not to put this in the backseat or anything but the fox mask that Rei is wearing in the following photos was given to me as a Christmas present by another artist friend of mine, SheCow. I love her work and she actually casts these masks herself in resin! They have magnets in them so you can affix them to your dolls easily. You can buy blanks from her and paint them yourself or you can have her paint one for you. Her work is highly detailed and very intricate and she's super nice. So if you're interested in a fox mask, let me know and I'll get you in touch with her.

 

Both of these items are hand painted so just know that A LOT of work went into each!

I took these earlier today and while I planned to have Rei looking a *little* ominous...... she really went all out and kinda made me a bit uneasy with how much she got into this persona of a scary maniac.

When talking to Ebl about what I wanted the saw to look like, I originally was after a new looking regular styled saw, like a Poulan or Stihl or McCullough. But after some talking it over, I decided to give it a more used and beat up look. Ebl went whole hog on this and gave it a Steampunk style while still making it look well worn. She also added so many "girly" details to it that take it over the edge for coolness.

Now, this reddish color MAY look like blood but I specifically asked for none of that silliness. There's no way I wanted my girls toting around some stupid zombie killing device when I *DESPISE* zombies. So that's RUST.... not blood, RUST. So there.

That turned out great! Of course, you know I"m a sucker for steampunk myself. (Ags insists it could use some kind of plasma blade, or perhaps a pair of steam-powered legs to make it autonomous. >.< What am I gonna do with that girl?)

 

. . .when Rei gets distracted by the squirrel, I know you were probably referencing Up, but all I could think was O Brother Where Art Thou, and the scene with George Nelson: "I hate cows worse than coppers!"

That is totally bad-ass!

Thanks so much! I'm also amazed at how the final paint job made it almost come alive in it's own way. And that *is* funny about Rei.... she can go from sweet and cute to full on terrifying pretty fast when she wants to.
