How do you people do that?

I have BJDs and i sort of know how they do it with them but then again, every person does it differently then the other. But DDs are made of Vinyl, for example... how would you add or change something on the face because i guess their rather squishy..? Wouldn't you just press it out of place very easily?

And what do you use to mod? Like mentioned before, how would you change something on the face, or add something extra on it.... ? Anything people can recommend? (Tools, supplies, anything..?) I'm really curious so anything would be welcome, even answers on questions i didn't ask yet, haha!

While the vinyl on DDs is flexible, and pretty squishy in some places, they're still rather firm; the head is especially firm. They don't really have any problem keeping their shape.

I don't really know a lot about modding, but I believe you mostly just use the same tools as you would for resin dolls. Not sure about sculpting clays/puttys/whatevers, though.

I've only done minor mods on vinyl, but you can still use things like sandpaper and knives. Carving can be a little. . . odd, because the vinyl is subtly springier than resin, but it's hardly impossible.

Also note, I've only done subtractive mods myself. Additive mods are currently outside my experience. As far as I can tell, sculpting epoxies like Apoxie Sculpt and Milliput seem to be common materials. So are polymer clays; interestingly enough, polymer clay and vinyl are chemically related. If you use polymer clays, though, you'll likely want to go the route of "lower for longer" in regards to baking.

I thought maybe its a little different since vinyl is softer/different texture and all then BJDs but it sounds pretty much the same. I would be death scared to try it though! It seems like so much fun and interesting to at least try/do once but yeah, really really scared to f---k up an expensive, pretty head~

That's why your first modding experience is probably going to be on a standard head--they're like $40 each instead of the $200+ the limited ones are.

Maybe x'D I didn't gather the guts yet to try mods! I would looooove to try because it looks like fun to do and just being creative and all... but yeah, the whole idea of the possibility that i could ruin a rather expensive doll part is... frightening...
