Obitsu discontinuing some 60cm bodies and parts

Recommended Posts

elianti

Hey all!

Apparently this happened starting December 18 last year, but Obitsu has discontinued their older normal 3-part body, soft body A, and hybrid male 60cm doll sets and all vinyl parts exclusive to these bodies. In short, the only 60cm body obitsu is manufacturing now is the 60cm ball joint body, and all the replacement parts associated with it. On Parabox's website, some of the parts to be discontinued are still available, while supplies last.

This is quite a hit to me because I've had ideas about making a vinyl boy using the 60cm male obitsu parts on the backburner and now it can't happen, and also because my first girl is on a soft body A 60cm base and now I can't do any more mods on her because I won't be able to buy replacement parts in case something goes wrong. Granted, there may be other obitsu suppliers with parts, but still..

I wish that obitsu made a notice about this... or perhaps they did, but it wasn't relayed in English. I only found out now when I noticed that some parts where discontinued in Parabox's English site and consequently checked the Japanese site to see if there are any more details. I understand that the parts they are discontinuing are quite dated, but I hope that this is not an indication of any financial troubles. What I DO hope is that this means that obitsu may have plans to give their 60cm line a well-needed update(and perhaps a more masculine well-designed male doll.... please?).

And here I was looking at their 60cm bodies in favour of a Dollfie Dream! Oh, irony, you silly creature.

It's always disappointing when a company discontinues sculpts, especially since (from what I've observed) Obitsu had the corner on the 'vinyl boy body' market (up until Smart Doll, I guess, but those are about two or three times as expensive and, as wonderful as Choo's sculpts are, I don't see them dominating much of anything until he gets production into super-gear).

One would assume that any discontinuation or update would come with a notice, but, of course, it could have been lost in translation or only mentioned a few times on some vague social media website or something.

If they do update the line, I hope they'll start making larger dolls (65cm and above - I saw a option for that on Junkyspot, but that could be a mistake) and more option parts. Maybe magnets in the hands so the dolls can stand upside-down.

I'm hoping this means there's an updated 60cm in the offing soon. 60cm is a good size, but man it'd be nice if they had a body that was more in line with the engineering on the 50cm. I just hope this doesn't mean that they're not doing a 60cm size at all now. :/

I also hope that it just means they're updating with a new body and not discontinuing 60cm forever. That would be a real shame because I like the size. This really makes me cherish my Kaito though. Now if anything happens to him outer part-wise, I can't fix him and that definitely bugs me. But I guess I lucked out a bit. Originally, I was going to put off buying that body until the end of December, when they marked it as discontinued. I'm really glad that I bought it earlier through impulse now. (And by impulse, I mean the, "I'm just going to take the plunge a month earlier than planned" impulse)

Is Obitsu discontinuing the manufacturing of these bodies/parts or is Parabox just no longer going to carry them?

All these bodies and part are still listed on the Obitsu online shop (http://www.obitsushop.com/SHOP/7629/7643/list.html), although the [60BD-F02-G] 60cm Obitsu body soft body A and the [60BD-F01-G] 60cm Obitsu body Normal are listed as back ordered.

They do have 65cm male and female dolls. The male in particular looks quite nice imo, but there have been reports of their joints being prone to breaking, even before arrival in some cases I think. I think this is the main reason why these bodies are harder to come by, though I just checked the obitsu webshop and they do have the 65cm male available, and apparently his inner skeleton had been redesigned to be stronger since late 2014.. but they still don't sell replacement parts.

I admit that when I saw that the 60cm boy was discontinued, I felt relieved that you were at least able to get Kaito's body in time! I would be absolutely crushed if I found out that it was too late to order the doll body I had been wanting for so long. At least the male parts your Kaito uses are still available..

I really do hope that this means that obitsu is working on new 60cms. More variety in larger vinyl dolls is always welcome.

Obitsu has discontinued the 65cm female, it happened towards the end of last year.

Well, that's less of a surprise, really. :/ The 65cm female body was prone to problems, apparently, and had no available replacement parts, so it wasn't exactly popular. (Also, it was taller than the 65cm male body. XD)

Are the upper and lower trunk of the 55cm male body and the male 60cm body the same? They look the same to me in Parabox's pictures. If so, could you still make your own 60cm hybrid boy?

I still need to make one more DD/Obitsu hybrid boy! I have the head, and was planning on getting the 60cm body for him, but a friend of mine is sending me a box of all her unused leftover Obitsu 60cm bodies and parts, and I am waiting for it to arrive (on Monday). When the box arrives, I will check and see if the 55cm male torso parts I already have fit on one of them.

Oh Noooooooooo!

I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later. Let's hope this means a new 60cm design based on the current 50cm body is around the corner. With lots of nice male parts and maybe a new male head sculpt or two.

Yes, the upper and lower trunk of the 55cm is what Parabox uses in their hybrid 60cm male, so they can definitely be used with the ball joint 60cm that is available now. The overall silhouette is a bit different because of the bjd body's more feminine thighs and slender shins compared to the older 60cms, and because Parabox used the 55cm arms for their hybrid instead of the 60cm arms. In the end, a 60cm boy using only the parts available from now on would result in a boyish, slim guy with hips a bit bigger than expected. xD;; Still workable, but it's a shame that they discontinued the 60cm male bust(and the macho bust) because at least then the guy would look a bit more manly..

Thanks for the info, elianti. Very helpful! There's a male bust in the box of bodies and parts I'm getting, now I am interested to find out if it is the 55cm or the 60cm! I would be surprised if it's the macho bust. I purchased an extra 55cm male lower trunk from Parabox last night. I think the arms I'll be getting are 60cm, so I am hoping I get a decent looking guy out of everything. He's bound to have girly legs, but they'll be covered up most of the time.

Somehow a bunch of Parabox anime eyes jumped into my cart while I was shopping, too.

Yeah, I can't even imagine that now happening now. @_@ If I had been planning for a year only to get slapped with "discontinued", I would've been totally despairing. As long as they keep the internal parts, I feel pretty safe with that. I keep thinking of how exactly I would even be able to accidentally damage his arms, his torso, his stomach, etc, and I can't even think of the situations where something unfixable would happen anyway. Only minor damages come to mind. I'm going to stay optimistic that maybe something new is on the way though! Possibly exciting.

I feel the same way. Luckily the vinyl parts are more durable, and the internal frame parts are replaceable. I've broken elbows on two of my Obitsu guys (the 65cm and a 55cm), just while handling them, not dropping them or anything! I think it would have to be a pretty drastic accident to gouge the vinyl, and stains can be removed.

I'm also hoping that maybe new male ~60cm bodies are on the way! Wouldn't that be something to look forward to??
