Remember that I sent a message to the Junky spot about the male obitsu body? they never answered me. T__T which is weird because they always answered to my questions.

Did you have questions about the 65cm male body (I've got 2) or the 55cm male body (I've got 4) or about availability from JS?

Nice to know Kaito enjoyed Resin Hearts. He looked really cute even as a shinx instead of a luxio. Your new little girl looks super adorable too! I think her hair color looks exactly like what I'd want for one of my girls, and it's interesting how she doesn't have joints. I'd love to see more pictures of her. ^^

 

And thanks for the tip about the hands btw! I love my Obi/AZO2 dearly, but the option hands obitsu makes for them are just way too small in my opinion! I actually think that the hands made for the 60cms look better proportionally on them, so I hope I don't have to wait too long to actually get a DD body so I can test that out as well. I expect the wrist peg will be too small but maybe some putty inside the actual hand might make it work.. xD

 

Regarding stock for the parabox/obitsu male bodies, I haven't asked JunkySpot, but I did try contacting Parabox directly about when they expect to get more of them in too (I want a 47cm girl body eventually, which is also out of stock at the moment ^^""""). They say that Obitsu has been behind in their production schedule, but that they believe the boy bodies should come back in stock at the end of the month or early next month. It's already that time period now so hopefully it won't take much longer. ; u ;"

It was about the availability of Parabox's 45cm male body. Jazijaz was nice enough to shoot them a message. But it seems elianti got a message from Parabox about it, so it seems I don't have to wait for restock much longer.

Aw, thanks! If you are interested in the wig, CodeNoir actually has it in DD size as well as 7-8" size. Though for the 7-8" and YoSD size, it says they're limited. The quality is rather nice! When the lighting is better today, I'll probably start a thread in the Off Topic Dolls section. I need help with clothing recommendations anyway. YoSD is a new size to me for sure!

 

I hope the hand sizing works out for you! It's nice to have so many options now. It was hard only having 3 choices in option hands. I personally have my eyes set on the idol hands next...

I'll give you that one, it IS long! It goes down to her ankles! And yeah, she's the Achero model doll. Though that name did not stick for her. It reminds me too much of the word "Ranchero" for some reason and that left me unable to feel like it was a pretty name at all.

 

And of course they restock today! I had almost made it! I held onto doll funds that whole time and I was only three days off. Poor Miles. I'll have to keep watching until I can afford the body again.

He didn't even care that she took his favorite scarf without asking! I feel like she can get away with mostly anything when it comes to Kaito. He's beaming with that brotherly pride lately.

 

I really do love the huge size difference between these two. It's both cute and hilarious to me.

 

 

I'm honestly not sure what I consider Kiyomi to be yet though in terms of explaining her with Kaito. I definitely picture her having a full vocabulary, even if she is very quiet. I don't consider her a baby or anything just because of her scale or her body type in comparison. Maybe she's some sort of travel sized android. She's very portable and light to carry, at least. I'll probably go with something along those lines.

 

 

His outfit is very cute and I very much like the wig. It definitely looks a lot more anime than typical "hair" (?) wigs! And I'm a fan of the color.

 

It's also great to know that DD hands will fit Obitsu! Now poor Meichan (my DD/Obi50 hybrid girl) will finally get some nicely sculpted and expressive hands

 

Just noticed my reply from earlier and realized I misread it. Noxxbunny can't read in middle of the day. My secret is out! That's how much of a night owl I've become, it seems. Pffft. I feel like a real dingus on that one.

 

Thank you though. I'm glad I did the anime hair style well. That's usually why I gravitate heavily towards brushed yarn wigs. They're so nice and obedient when you want a pointy anime hair look!

Kind of sort of got to use the house for pictures today! We still have our Halloween decorations up, so those are fun. Still so hard to find spots in here. My great grandmother is the decorator of the majority of the house...so it's a picture shrine. Can barely take a photo in here without getting about 50 other family photos in the background lol. Which is a shame, since I like the lighting.

Caught Kaito looking a little smug again. I see that's still leftover from his old faceup a bit.

 

 

Couldn't totally figure out how to get this one to work...but I liked the lighting. My aunt made a cool Dia de los Muertos/Day of the Dead mask with a rose crown and veil. But I couldn't really fit everything in without getting those darn other photos in the shot. @_@

 

I also think I'm starting to get a problem. When I was placing Kaito around all these things in the house, I actually had the thought of "He's actually sorta small, isn't he?" I know some people who can't handle SD/60cm size would say I'm nuts for thinking that!

Same here! It's almost been a year since I got Kaito put together, and I do remember the initial shock I had. I had a moment of "What the heck did I just get myself into?" when I first opened the box with his body in it.

 

Apparently this lol. I still want to see a 90cm one now. Just out of morbid curiosity. I'd never have the space for a doll that size though. I don't even know where I'm going to put Miles now when I get him. And he's only going to be 45cm!

At least it's not just me then! I think I picture them to be the same way. It didn't help that there were lots of taller resin boys at the convention I was at, so I think that made me see him as short even more.

 

He's the Parabox 60cm male body. It's sadly been discontinued, but I believe it can still be assembled by buying the parts separately? I'm not 100% on that.

They have the double jointed elbows and knees. Their legs are ridiculously long! I got them the DD large size hands, but haven't swapped them yet.

Yeah, lol, I agree there. It does look quite skinny. I tend to think it's cute most of the time, at least! I usually do compensate for the long legs and skinny waist with the clothes though. I find that using longer shirts with a baggier fit tend to make the legs look a little more proportional at least.

 

I would be really interested in seeing your twins with the large size DD hands! I had been debating it, but I wasn't sure if they would look too big or not. Plus, your twins are really cute, so I'd enjoy seeing them more either way.

Speaking of bodies, I can't handle 70cm dolls let alone 90cm dolls, my biggest SD is 65cm and I think he's too big for me. 60cm is my perfect size for big dolls

 

When I needed a body for Crash I messaged Parabox about the male body, they recommended me to buy the 55cm male obitsu and the 60cm female legs so I got that and they even shipped him with the legs swapped.

 

I wish I would have known about the 60cm male body though I think his arms are too small, they need to be longer because his short arms with long legs don't look proportional to me.

 

I want to get him the SMD body since the obitsu body doesn't match his head skin tone. Is your Kaito's head NS or semi white?

 

Mine is NS and it is too dark compared to the yellowish obitsu body. The semi-white skin is too white/pinkish so none of the DD skin colors match with this body but I see that your DDH07 matches so well with the obitsu body so I wonder if my obitsu body came with an imperfect skin color.

As for Kaito's head, he's SWS. I credit his color match to his blushing. His faceup is light orange/peach with a very tiny hint of pink. When his head is blank, I totally didn't think it matched at all, but as long as he has a faceup, it seems to be just fine. On top of that, I have the top of his neck blushed in that same light orange too because he also has some jawline shading. BUT, the difference is really obvious again when you put his hand up to his face, for example.

 

And I tend to wonder the opposite! Everyone says NS is such a perfect match to Obitsu white and my DDH06 boy doesn't match AT ALL! I really don't get what went weird there, but my first thought was that it was the head that was wrong rather than the body. I just ordered him a body and it should be here in a few days...so I hope that it maybe turns out darker than Kaito's or something. Otherwise I'm either going to have to trash this head(which I REALLY don't want to do. I worked so hard.) and start over on a SWS one, or I'm going to have to find a way to blush the body to match. I don't know what I'll do yet...It looks fine in photos, but I really dislike it in person.

I may eventually try to swap Kaito's arms out for the current 60cm Parabox female's arms...but I'm not sure yet if they would look too skinny or not. For sure I want to stick to ball-joint for his arms though. I already hide his knees all the time because I don't like how they look when they're bent.

But I bought a lot of 3 Obitsu 60cm bodies from a good friend, and two were double jointed and one was single, so the twins got the doubles so they would match. Same here, I really prefer the ball joints. I'm willing to sacrifice some poseablilty for that nicer shape. I think when it comes to the Obitsu bodies, I consider one I have to be masculine. BUT, the joints on the knees definitely say "figure" to me too compared to DD. It's a little of column A and B, I think. I don't really mind, though.

 

Kaito also has some body blushing, and I think that also adds to the sculpt a lot. It makes the more male features of the torso pop more and it doesn't look as "flat" as it did blank? Even if I never even see it anyway. But if Volks ever makes an adult male DD body and it doesn't have a 6-pack, I'll totally switch him to that. There's a really fine line for me between masculine and too muscular. I admit I'm really picky about that. Even if it makes picking a body way harder for me!

 

That would be hilarious is I ended up with a tan DDH06 somehow by mistake. And I'd feel terrible for modding it. I'm curious now of what Obitsu Normal looks like in comparison too. I've never seen it myself.

I don't think I have ever seen an Obitsu normal color body in person, but I have heard they are really dark.

In their vinyl line, there is no Obitsu "normal" skin tone.

Originally Obitsu 60cms came in white skin, which you're all familiar with as the Volks Normal closest match. They also had what they called Fleshtone, which wasn't quite tan, but a lighter than tan, slightly orange-ish color. The 60cms were the only bodies that were produced in Fleshtone. Fleshtone has been discontinued. There wasn't any real official announcement that I'm aware of, Obitsu just stopped making it. Not very popular I guess.

This past year Obitsu released a limited number of 50cm bodies in what they called "Super White". I have not seen one in person but it is somewhere between Volks white and semi-white. Super White first appeared as a full set named Mikaduki 2 and later as limited stock 50cm body. There were also 48cm leg vinyls and option hands made in Super White.

For summer Wonderfest 2016, Obitsu made a very limited number of 50cm bodies in what they call "Sun Light Skin".

Reports are that it was similar to the tan skin tone made exclusively for the Yamato/Angel Philia/RAP dolls, but in photos with white skin dolls it looks lighter than AP tan to my eyes.

 

Here's a close up of Hyatt, a real mishmash of Obitsu skin colors. She has a fleshtone Haruka head, a VMF50 tan body, and white skin ears.

galatia9: Thank you so much for providing pictures! The double jointed arms and legs look like a bigger version of the 21cm obitsu body XD which looks kind of childish for someone like Crash. I do see that the NS head matches so well with the obitsu body.

 

 

Noxxbunny: Huge dolls are nice if you have one or two but when you have 5+ it gets a bit overwhelming >_< (everyone is different, some people only like big dolls and I'm more of a tiny doll person)

 

Crash has the 60cm female knees/legs: http://www.parabox.jp/eng_new/60_body.html he certainly has the wheel on the back but since he's always wearing pants and it doesn't look the same on the front, I don't mind it.

 

I'm not at home right now and I have never put him side by side with my 60cm resin doll nor have I ever measured him to see if he is 60cm so I don't really know what I know is that he is very tall which I really like (I just wish his arms were longer) and my DDS boys are SO small next to him. However, I do believe if reaches the 60cm height or even more (probably 62cm) because SD pants fit him so well, like they were made just for him (but the SD shirts with long sleeves are big for his short arms >_<).

Ah blushing! you did a good job with it! Crash was also blushed, I just wish I didn't have to do extra work with him ^^ I put like 5+ layers of yellow pastel on his old face up but I'm giving him a new face up soon. He is currently in pieces and all clean and I'm actually thinking of not blushing his head this time...

 

I wish I would have known about this because SWS looks easier to match (lighter to dark rather than dark to lighter)

 

And I tend to wonder the opposite! Everyone says NS is such a perfect match to Obitsu white and my DDH06 boy doesn't match AT ALL! I really don't get what went weird there, but my first thought was that it was the head that was wrong rather than the body. I just ordered him a body and it should be here in a few days...so I hope that it maybe turns out darker than Kaito's or something. Otherwise I'm either going to have to trash this head(which I REALLY don't want to do. I worked so hard.) and start over on a SWS one, or I'm going to have to find a way to blush the body to match. I don't know what I'll do yet...It looks fine in photos, but I really dislike it in person.

I got the obitsu body mainly because many people said that Volks NS was a good match with Obitsu white. but Crash's head is the same color as my other 3 NS DDs. This obitsu body doesn't match with Makoto, Momo and Len (all NS). This is why I thought the problem was with Obitsu.

Just my two cents about the color matching between DD and Obitsu.. I got my obi 60cm a few years ago and pretty much all of the harder vinyl parts(arms, hands, legs, feet, and the head she came with) have considerably yellowed, though I didn't really notice it until I got one of the new Azone 50cm obitsus at the beginning of the the year. I know vinyl does yellow a bit over time, so I wonder if obitsu's stock of 60cms is reallyyy old since the 50cms seemed to become much more popular once they were released.

 

I just(finally?) got a normal DDH-07 from Volks last month, and personally I DO think it matches white skin obitsus alright.. at least the newer ones based on the 50cm body. I was honestly pretty surprised at how light it was! I was expecting it to be darker/pinker, and although it does have a slightly pinker hue than obitsu it's neither darker nor lighter from what I can see. When compared to the more yellowed parts of my 60cm though you can really see a difference. Ironically I'm pretty sure that head will be going on my (shortened!)60cm obi girl anyway, though I did give her a DDdy bust so it hopefully won't look too jarring. xD

 

Back on topic, Kiyomi looks adorable with Kaito! Did you make her Halloween cosplay? ^^

K-2: Thanks for all that info! I do wonder what Super White looks like in person now too. She looks more on the side of totally white, but Mikaduki is very pretty in general.

 

And for some reason, Hyatt really works. I somehow managed to not even notice the ears until you mentioned them lol. And the head and body, I couldn't really tell from the photo.

 

jazijaz: LOL, I am such a huge everything kind of person when it comes to the things I collect. I have multiple of those huge 40inch tall amusement park plush, I collect a lot of life-sized Pokemon plush on the side...Tiny is not for me. I don't think I'd really enjoy any doll smaller than Kiyomi is.

 

I like the look of those legs better! And I think they look really nice on Crash, even if they're long. They seem to be a bit skinnier maybe? I'm not sure. I agree with SWS being a bit easier though. That's sort of why I picked it when I got my first DD. I had heard about how it was easier to match by going darker. It was a challenge to get color to show up on Miles' faceup the way I wanted because of his NS color. At least compared to Kaito.

 

As long as customs doesn't hold Miles' body for too long, I actually expect a Saturday delivery, so I'll be able to compare the skin tones. It could be that Kaito's body is yellowed more than I thought. He's pretty much a year old with me now, and I don't know how long Parabox had his body. I will report back on that!

 

And I totally think this is interesting too! So I don't mind at all! I don't get to talk doll things anywhere else, so this is fun for me too!

 

elianti: Maybe I was right on that too then. When I ordered new wrist parts a while back, I swore they were darker or something and I just figured I was imagining it. When I get Miles' body this week, I'll have to do a comparison! I'm really curious now if that's the case.

 

As for Kiyomi's costume, I had a bootleg Kaito plush from a few years ago that I was tossing out during my "spring cleaning"(in Fall, of course), and I noticed that it looked like the outfit could fit. So I just tried it out and it did. So the outfit can stay.

I always wanted those 40inch plushies, they look so big and comfy lol my problem is space and I also move out a lot (I'm moving to new places every year) so the big dolls are overwhelming and a tad difficult to pack. I pack all my tinies in one Dollmore bag but the big ones have to go in different boxes. If I were to have more space and a place I know I will never move out from, then things could be different (I think...)

I'm glad I don't have that particular curse! I actually tend to be really picky about the dolls I like for myself. Though, I'm not super selective as long as they stay in the anime-style range for me. I think a lot of resin BJD are beautiful, but I somehow just can't picture myself with one. Except for maybe like, a 2D Doll or something. I think I just really like to hold things with both my hands and such, so small doesn't usually catch my eye. 11cm is so tiny! But what's crazy to me is that at the con I went to, a woman I was talking to had a BJD that was about the size of my pinky finger! I can't imagine what it must be like to string such a tiny doll. Kiyomi is on the tall end of Yo-SD. She's 30cm!

 

I can definitely see why big plush would be an issue if you move that often! I'm probably moving next year, and I'm able to move my stuff in stages. So the big plush are probably among the last things I'm going to take with me once I'm sure I'm going to stay a while. When it comes to doll packing...I keep the boxes they come in for easy packing again later. I got Miles' body today and I'm a bit disappointed that its a thin plastic box and not a sturdy cardboard one like Kaito's came in. So I may keep the box that he was shipped in instead.

 

So speaking of that, the skin color match is slightly better. I have to look very very closely, but Kaito's body is a bit more yellow. But only by the tiniest of margins. And apparently the slight yellowing like that really matters. NS looks alright with this body, and I'm sure it won't show at all in pictures. But I still think I'll blush around the neck a bit for better matching, but it actually worked out okay!

Phew, so I have officially had Kaito a year! I'm about two hours late here...but close enough? While I do celebrate his character birthday in February, I also celebrate his actual "birthday" here with me.

It's really crazy to have been in this for a year. But I've been having a great time! I admit that this hobby has been great for me. I've mentioned before that I'm a typical self-loathing artist. When it comes to say, drawing...I'm scared to try new things, I give up when I mess up...mistakes just eat away at me. And somehow, when I started this, it wasn't like that at all. If I made a mistake or something unexpected came up during modding...I pushed harder to correct it. I keep trying and trying, and even when I fail, it doesn't get me down because I know I've learned something for next time. Even if Kaito isn't perfect, and even if some people would probably say I'm bad at what I do...he was the first thing I worked on and thought "I'm happy with what I've done, even though there's still room to improve." I had never had that feeling before towards my own work in any form. So for that alone, this hobby is really something I'm glad I got into. While I still consider myself a newbie and I know I still have a long way to go, I have at least come a long way over a year!

 

And to remind myself of that, I put together a compilation photo of where Kaito started to where he is now.

 

 

Looking at the first and last pictures makes me chuckle a bit. I really have modded him so hard. Over this year...Kaito has gone through more eyebrow and faceup changes than I can count. Along with many of my newbie mistakes... Like breaking his wrist and getting him a few stains here and there from not pre-washing clothes that I really should have. Luckily he takes all of those mistakes in stride! He's quite a trooper. And always with a smile too!

 

I probably won't actually get to take birthday themed photos until Saturday...so I think I'll leave this post with a weird tidbit about my Kaito.

 

When I first discovered Kaito as a character(hilariously through the Figma and not the music of all things), I of course set off to learn more. After youtubing a while...I came across a Kaito cover of Yellow by kz. It was after hearing that song that I decided for sure that I liked Kaito. So I essentially consider my own Kaito to be an embodiment of that song at the core of his personality. While only one part of his headset is finished, I actually plan on marking the undersides of both of them with one yellow heart each to symbolize that. No one will see them, but I'll know they're there. And now so do you guys lol!

That's such a cute story! Yellow was my favourite song in project diva 2nd/extend and I used to play it with Kaito a lot.

It feels like only yesterday that figma was announced for me! I was through the roof about it cos I waited YEARS for one ;-; but I'm glad it took a while to come out cos the quality is so high compared to the first Miku figma and the Rin/Len ones (honestly i think the Rin one is awful...)

 

I think you've done a good job with him but I also like that he's given you confidence. I wish I could say the same...seeing how much you've done makes me want to take a crack at faceups again though. Happy birthday to your Kaito! Made me realize how quickly my one's is coming up
