Looks like he had fun at least. Even though you couldnt get a pic of him out in the snow, you still got a nice one with the snow in the background.

 

Small mishaps aside, I am glad I took him! It was somehow fun just knowing he was with me. I'm glad the picture looks decent too. I had wanted to open the window to move the screen out of the way...but it was unfortunately frozen shut lol. Eh, Kaito didn't need to be feeling that icy cold air anyway!

So I recently got a DDH-10...I didn't intend to keep it, but...

 

 

It came out too cute when I finished the faceup a few days ago. This is the last one. I swear. Though...despite the dress, this one is a boy as well. I just didn't have any other clothes in this size around and I didn't want him to be naked or in a box. He doesn't really seem to mind at all.

(And he doesn't look too bad in it...I honestly think this one will probably spend half his time in dresses/skirts.) I'm still working on names for this one though. Nothing is sticking quite yet.

 

And a bonus photo. Still messing around with some things.

 

Hopefully a name hits me soon. And hopefully I easily find the right color wig for him too. He's going to end up blonde. Though I like this style on him too. I just really like this little one.

Even before I read the description, your DDH-10 immediately looked like a boy to me despite the dress. I think your face-up definitely captures the anime-boy look.

Will his eventual wig be a platinum blond or dirty blond or more golden (or something else)?

Also, the print on that dress is pretty--is it a Japanese fabric, or do you know?

I just bought a Angell Studio wig off the marketplace, it looks more on the side of a golden blonde. If that one doesn't work out, then closer to platinum is my next go-to. I think he could sort of go either way with color. And he may or may not get an eye color swap depending on the hair color too.

 

As for the fabric print, I unfortunately don't know. It's just a dress I bought from Parabox when I did my last order.

Yeah, your boys' faceups all communicate anime-boyishness well, if that makes sense. I suspect it's a combination of the way you do the upper eye line and the painted mouth? There may be more than just that, though. (The way gender is indicated in anime-stylized faces, in 2D or 3D, is interesting to me because of how subtle the differences can sometimes be.)

I'm going to try very feebly to not use blue eyes because I use it so much(it's my favorite color for literally everything), but I got a pair I want try out because they have stars in them(my other favorite thing) But if those don't work out, I think he's going to keep these. I'm always looking for an excuse to use this pair since I love the shine so much.

 

As for my faceup technique, you would be correct on the upper eye line! I forgot where that advice was given to me, but it was essentially about keeping the lines for boys smooth and simple. No eyelashes and things like that, definitely no lower lashes if not necessary. And to make the blushing soft and not pink(I broke that rule with this one. I do usually use an orange or peach color)

 

And you're also pretty spot on about the lip area too. I do think some people pull off the male look really well on DDs without modding, but I'm sadly not one of those people lol. I feel like it somehow doesn't work with my style. Maybe because right now, simple is the limit to what I can do. It's like the depth of the lips looks off in comparison to my eye line work.

 

That's so true about how subtle the difference can be though. I've always thought it was interesting too. Even though I do boyish faceups myself, even I can't quite say for sure what the difference is. The look is just sort of there or it isn't somehow! I think a lot of it is definitely in the lines of the eyes though. From my own experience, anyway.

These DD creatures are very crafty. They seem to find any way to crash at your place and then they stay forever. Next time I'm getting a head that I'd like enough to work on, but don't have any reason to keep, like a DDH-05 or something. My mistake was wanting a DDH-10 and then also getting one!

You'd be right about that! This caused me to learn that it turns out that a hair tie/scrunchie makes for a decent MDD/MSD sized skirt in a pinch...

 

 

Good thing I had this cute Minccino one around despite the fact that I can't wear scrunchies. My hair is probably just as short as this little guy's.

 

And I luckily won't be calling him that anymore. After like 4 days or so, I've finally settled on a name. So this one here is now Lyca! Technically, Lycan...but it doesn't have that cute ring to it.

 

Sort of based on the fact that I think Lyca is a bit of a "wolf in sheep's clothing" kind of character(and it fits his glowing eyes too) He tends to look all sweet and innocent(no matter what he's wearing, really), but there's definitely more to him than that. I sort of think he has a bit of a mean streak to him that he only shows to people he doesn't like, or when he feels like he needs to be acting tough. He's all smiles only if you stay on his good side, but it's fairly easy to do that. I think he's mostly mellow, but just has no chill when it comes to being messed around with. He's ended up just being around 70% sweet or something like that. Just with a small bit of a hidden temper, maybe.

So new wig and eyes came in! I am really into the new eyes, it gives him a more intense and boyish look...and I LOVE this wig color...but the style is likely not going to work out.

 

(I may have been subconsciously influenced by the CodeNoir flyer I've had posted up for a couple months...)

 

 

He's wearing the bear hat because I'm attempting to give him hat hair lol. After trimming this wig, the back will not stay down. I have tried everything I know to try. Gel, hairspray, putting it in hot water and then pinning it down with plastic wrap and then it just fluffs right back up and it looks like a puffy mushroom. Sort of lowkey looking at another wig already. I just love this color though. My second choice may end up being a LullabyPoem wig or something. I'm stuck in that spot of "One expensive wig that I'll probably like because I actually know what it looks like on a DD, or two cheap wigs that may not even be the right size for a DD" I can see Lyca in about a million styles, so I'm sure he'll end up with a bunch of wigs anyway though.

Aw, thank you Torino! It's super cool to hear that because I always think your photos look really great, they're always so colorful and vibrant! I wish I could truly take all the credit for the improvement here, but I think it's partially because I upgraded my phone/camera a couple months ago though!

 

I think it really allows me to take more sharp and accurate pictures now. Unless I'm shooting in dim lighting, I pretty much haven't had to do any more major edits on my newer stuff because my new camera captures colors and light really nicely. I used to worry about what people would think of all my boys if they saw them in person because I sort of felt like my old camera was capturing them in a picture so inaccurately? I think this one is a good example because I feel like that's definitely how Lyca looks as he's sitting right on my desk. It's very true to what I see in person. If that makes any sense lol.

I thought that about his eyes too! Really makes him seem like he popped out of a picture sometimes.

 

The wig is an Angell Studio one. though I'm not 100% on what color it is from them. While the color is great, the length wasn't if short is what's important...but it would make a cute shoulder length bobbed wig for a girl otherwise.

So something a bit unusual happened today. I live on a court(cul-de-sac, whatever you wanna call it) and despite that...an ice cream truck actually came by today.

 

It stuck around on my street for about 10-15 minutes, so I bet you all can guess who I had to deal with that whole time...

 

"Please??"

 

"If I get you an ice cream cone, I have to get one for Miles, Lyca, and Kiyo too to be fair. That's sort of expensive."

 

"I don't think you're understanding me here, the money's not important...it's an ICE CREAM truck! It brings ice cream...to your HOUSE!!"

I'll surprise him with some ice cream from the store later. No one tell Kaito, but I'm personally a bigger fan of the shaved ice truck that comes around my house once every 6 months or so lol.

Only soooort of. The truck is actually meant to be reserved for parties. I guess it drives around like a usual truck when business is slow, maybe? It really does only drive by my house once or twice a year lol. For me, an actual shaved ice place is about 40ish miles away(that I know of.) I tend to settle for the Snow Cones the regular trucks sell lol.

 

I'm glad his wig still looks nice in photos! I've been meaning to make him a new one lately. I think this one is reaching the end of its lifespan, it's getting frizzy and thinner. This wig was made about 2 years ago and I handle it a lot. The downside to yarn wigs, unfortunately.

All this talk of wigs...Kaito got a surprise today.

I found him an Usagi Hime wig on Yahoo Auctions by chance, and I wanted to try out ZenMarket for the first time anyway...and this was perfect! His old wig is getting worn out with age, so I thought I'd give this kind a try at least for a little while! I do like his hair a little more scruffy and textured though, so I may use this for him when I want to take him anywhere because it's neater. Depends on how the styling comes out Honestly, yarn wigs are a PAIN to style on the fly, and you better hope there's not even the slightest breeze around or everything is ruined forever lol. I think they're worth it for anime-style hair, but the upkeep is work that I sometimes don't want to deal with!

 

As per usual though...I have trimming and styling to do. I don't think I have ever gotten a wig for a DD I didn't have to cut. Sheesh...they're all so long on the face! But I love the color. The fibers could be better, they feel a bit plastic-y...but I'm willing to tolerate that for the color. Bright blue like this shouldn't be such a pain to find!

 

Unfortunately all that has to wait until I'm done stain testing this wig on my tester head. Blue fibers and a black wig cap...I'm not taking my chances. No immediate stains from being on for a few minutes, though.

Thanks! That does make me want to make an actual two toned wig at the tips...that's a good idea. Now I'm wondering how I can do such a thing.

Kaito looks really good with that new wig! Though I love how his yarn ones look so fluffy and anime. So it's too bad that they are getting worn out! I guess the little fiber staples come out with a lot of handling. From YT videos it looks like yarn wigs are pretty easy to maneuver into the style you want... or perhaps it's too easy and wind can instantly make it look crazy. xD;;

 

I'm still very interested in making my own yarn wigs because my Elia needs a ton of fluff and volume, and Arturo has a sorta half combed-back 'do that might be hard to pull off with a regular wig. I made a wig cap and made guidelines where I think I should gluing wefts down, but I've been pretty lazy actually making wefts. Plus, I have a sorta sinking feeling that the three skeins of Daiso yarn I got in Japan(and can't find online anywhere orz) aren't enough for Elia. lol;;

Yeah, the downside to yarn wigs is the regular maintenance that needs to be done on them, but that same upkeep and care wears the wig out over time. They hold dust well, so they need to be brushed a lot, but the more you brush, the more frizzy and scraggly the fibers get. Kaito gets a full brush-out and re-styling about once a month to keep it clean and neat. And exactly about the styling! It's too easy xD the fibers are so light and almost airy that even a little breeze can move everything out of place. Of course they can get static-y too. It's just this one's time to be put on the shelf. I made it 2 or so years ago. The color has faded a bit and it's frizzy and thinner now, sadly.

 

The skeins you got should be plenty though unless she's 90% hair. Though...if you're doing glued wefts, it'll probably take more than what Kaito has. The glue wefts do seem to come out thinner from what I've been seeing while working on another wig. He has a sewn weft wig, what you see there on his head is only about 6-8 wefts and less than 1/3 of a skein of small Daiso yarn. I wish I could offer to help you out with Daiso yarn. I don't live too far from one, but I'm just literally never in the area it's in these days. I feel you on being lazy about weft making though...a short style wig, from start to finish usually takes me a full 24 hours spread across 4 or 5 days. It's a long process I don't always feel up to doing lol.

I still wonder what alpaca wigs feel like...I gave up on the idea of using it since it seems it wouldn't do what I want without a lot of gel or hairspray. That's personally why I prefer yarn over synthetic for my own Kaito's hair. The yarn does what I want and it holds where I put it without the use of any products. I don't like the crunchy feel gel or wax gives to synthetic wigs. Then I have to wash it all off after and then it REALLY looks like it's from a shampoo commercial
