Cute and spooky Rin , Hope she gets got a lot of candy

She certainly got her fill of candy. Probably too much! We still aren't rid of it all lol!

 

Anyways...been away for a bit again. I feel like I'm never on my laptop these days. I bring more pictures, of course!

 

First is MDD Rin She just sorta looks like a chibi character to me this way rather than younger.

 

 

 

Rin and Kaito both got new eyes recently!

 

 

I really do love that Kaito has another Vocaloid around lol. They look good together.

 

Rin also got a new wig. I normally don't like curly hair wigs too much because they get so tangly, but she does look good in mostly anything!

Now that you mention that, I agree! I was shocked that it didn't immediately strike me as too bobbleheaded. It is funny to see her as an MDD though after I got used to her tallness!

I really gotta post on the forum more lol. I think having to deal with imgur and resizing photos and stuff makes me lazy compared to IG these days. Rin really is a dangerous one like that. I love that I can pick out anything and she models it all so nicely! Spiffy is a word I should use for Kaito more. I like that!

She is totally like that with just about any combo. It's like having a new doll all the time with her. But... that's a problem. Once you open your wallet for Rin, it will never close again she already has more wigs than anyone else in my group. That's for sure. With another one on the way too.

Long time no post again! Honestly...me and Ami weren't working out too well for a bit. She just needs a lot of work that I feel I'm not at the skill level to do for her right now...sooooo...I went out and got another DDH-01(No worries though, Ami is just put away to be worked on again another time.)

 

This one is painted by La¨nsy!! Which means a lot to me because they've been sort of faceup goals for me since I wanted to join the hobby. I take a lot of modding inspiration from them especially, so I'm really happy to have a head painted by them!

 

 

This little one is called Maron for now. I started referring to him as "Lil' Melonball" when I won him, and so I thought Maron sounded a little like Melon lol. I say "for now" because I may want to use this head to be a small Kaito, but I can't really picture it until I have the right wig. And the one I ordered won't be done for a few months.

 

 

He's been the focus of all my attention the past week or so lol. He's also modeling an ears and tail set I've been working on. I haven't figured out how to glue fur onto the ears yet though...but I'm thinking of selling sets here and there once I figure it out. They were meant to be DD fox ears and they ended up being MDD cat ears...oh well. Just needs some more work.

I'm a pretty big fan of rRabbit lately. Their clothes are so gooooood and I keep wanting to go back for more already lol.

 

Will be an enabler on the MDD with a custom head. They're just so darn cute. I'd suggest picking a head you like first though and then body after...I got this MDD body from someone else as a spur of the moment thing, so I was only able to pick from NS heads. But there are SO MANY SWS ones that are amazing too. If Maron hadn't popped up, I think I would have been very disappointed with that limitation on me.

I've become really fond of the open mouth DDH10 mods I've seen now and then, but the prices are such that I'd have to be sure that I truly wanted the doll before bidding.

 

It would be nice to have someone to wear all the frilly dresses that aren't really Mei's style (and that don't fit that well on the taller-than-MDD Obi50 or DDP bodies) but that I bought anyway...

Open mouth mods on DDH-10's really are adorable I thought of doing one when I modded Lyca, but decided against it since my past attempts at open mouth modding have been total disasters lol. One is okay, but I never use it. Needs repainting.

 

I'd say the high price ones are usually worth it when they're from a reputable artist as well. I've have a couple Momoiro Manbou heads and Maron and they've been amazing quality even if I didn't keep the Momoiro ones. But yeah, a good head will punch you in the wallet pretty hard. Maron cost me quite a bit...but because I got caught up in the bidwar for him. And of course, right after, Lansy listed a nearly identical head and it sold for less than half of what Maron did. So he has a twin somewhere out there. I personally like Maron more though the suble differences are important. I felt like the other one had more lower eye lines which made them look a little tired.

 

I get you on the dresses though...that's originally why I kept this body instead of selling it, but then I didn't end up finding too many that were my style :c which is odd because I'm also a fan of frilly ones. But I guess I like more lolita-style or modern pastel kinds of frilly dresses as opposed to the like... the faux-victorian kind of thing that I keep running into instead. Not to my taste at all.

Seeing the shots on my computer (not mobile), I've noticed the little stars in his eyes. It's a very nice touch! And of course, the sweater complements them excellently.

 

Yeah, open mouth mods are hard. I tried one, once, and while it didn't come out as bad as it could have it still...isn't really showable >_< The head was a DDH07, so it's not as if I ruined something irreplaceable, but I don't think I'll be trying again anytime soon

 

It's good to hear that about the heads being high quality/worth the price. I've read people saying "just buy a blank head and send it to a US/Eur customizer, the auction ones aren't worth it", but I don't believe the people saying that had necessarily owned one of the established-artist one offs.

And yeah, it was DDH-07 for me too! I forget if I ever posted it here, but if I did, photobucket killed it so here's Kaito's other head. I want to repaint the mouth to be more like this plush though. And it could use some more sanding work.

 

 

I think what's worth it in a custom head is definitely up to each person for sure. Some people just want cheap in price, or fast delivery, or a certain style, etc. And yeah, I'd think maybe it's from people who haven't owned them. I think there are a lot of good EU/US artists, but none of them particularly do a style I want or am drawn to(or if they do, they're always closed.) Or deal with the shipping costs both ways. I'll admit Maron set me back about $180, but because of bidwar. His almost-twin went for $80 LOL. So sometimes you score and deal and sometimes not. And $40 head and $40 faceup is pretty darn good! But I think what's most important is how much you like the head.

 

The biggest issue for me is that I don't ever have a 100% clear vision of what I want either and that makes me an annoying customer for something like a faceup. When I do my own faceups, I wing it and see where the character takes me. Or with Maron, I'm deciding from a pre-painted head what I want him to be. I don't go into it with a full idea in mind, typically.

 

Though if Maron ends up looking like a good Kaito later this year and you end up with an MDD...we may have to have a chat! but it'll be a while. I ordered him a blue wig already, but it won't be done until at least March at this rate.

 

A Lillie would be so adorable as an MDD though, and I love her vulpix if you'd go with the anime. That would be so super cute! I'd like to see her pokeball bag in doll size too~

Kaito does definitely match the plush in that shot! Yours came out a lot more evenly than mine...mine looks so yandere (on account of the asymmetry in her smile) that I refer to her as Yandere-chan.

 

Yeah, I have a similar feeling with custom heads--I worry I'd be a terrible client for a customizer because I'm not sure how to express what I'd like, or even be completely sure of it beforehand, but I do know for sure if something looks wrong--I'd be afraid that when the artist would send me progress photos I'd keep pointing out feature after feature that needed to be amended, which would most likely be very frustrating for the artist. But if a pre-made head looks right, there's no such problem.

 

$180 seems reasonable for a custom head, imo, especially considering modding and such. Sadly a lot of the heads I like go for $500+, which--while I'm happy for the artists, and in general to see artists' work being valued so highly--is more than I can justify on my own personal budget.

 

MDD-Lillie would indeed be based on the anime, so I'd definitely want her to have her Vulpix! Fortunately it shouldn't be too hard to find a large figure of Alola Vulpix...hopefully...

I have another artist on my list as well who has high rolling heads like that too...I'll probably cave one day. I tell myself "If I'll pay for a semi-mass produced doll, I can pay that much for a OOAK doll" I think. But I haven't taken the plunge quite yet and I don't think I'm going to for a bit either. Gotta slow my doll intake for a bit.

 

I hope it's easy to find a good Alola Vulpix figure. They're both so cute! I have to stop myself from starting an Alola Vulpix collection tbh...I hope your wig search goes well

Rin maybe enjoys having a little brother instead of her twin for now. She finds him very huggable.

 

Me and Maron have taken up a new hobby together as well...

 

 

We're totally into Num Noms right now...They're little food animal toys that smell nice and are super cute. Maron is getting quite the collection in a very short time!

 

 

We got a new plush one today. They sit on Maron's bed with him. I say "Maron's" but this bed from Ikea is for all my MDD sized boys It matches all my other Ikea furniture in my room, so I love it for that alone!

The shot with Maron holding Kaito's hand is very sweet. The posing is super expressive! In that one and in the piggyback ride shots, Kaito really does look like a caring older brother.

Mikuo is a Snow Miku that I made very minor faceup changes to. I just took the pink off the lips and made them look a little longer and then I just removed the blue eyeshadow. I wanted to change just enough to make him look more boyish, but I didn't want to change it so much that it wouldn't work anymore if I felt like dressing him up like his sister, Miku. (I think I think of Miku and Mikuo like I do Rin and Len lol)

 

My three Vocaloids seem to be quite content to all be together!

 

In other news...Lyca finally got some cute pastel clothes and a proper wig! I put off buying him an outfit for such a long time, but now I have to hold myself back from getting more and more.

 

 

Rin also just got a new outfit(among many new ones lol)!

Last I heard from an old thread, Volks default faceups actually aren't sealed. So they come right off with acetone. And very likely you actually only need 90% isopropyl alcohol for it. I just used acetone since I only had 70% alcohol around and I figured it was too weak. Scrubbing and making a very precise swipe don't go together, so I needed something strong.

 

I used a sharp tipped q-tip/cottonswab to remove the eyeshadow it just takes precision to not hit the lines of the eyes. There is a tiiiiiiiny bit of it left since I didn't want to get THAT close, but it's 95% gone, I'd say.

I can't remember the thread, but I thought I remembered seeing your girl wearing clothes from this artist as well but they're from Cyristinecreations on Etsy! She's great to work with. the quality is top notch too. She even swapped out the original design sold with the shirt to the Sylveon design from another shirt. I know she does custom color swaps too on all her stuff if you have something more specific in mind.

Oh man, long time no post! Dead thread revival because I can upload easily again. Where to even start...Kaito had a faceup redo quite a while ago!
