I hope you can get him exactly how you want him eventually! I'm far too chicken to try it with my own Kaito, but I'm thinking of commissioning someone to make his face a little more Kaitoish.

 

It's that kind of look that made me change the faceup Half the time, I'd be looking at him and thinking "Stop sassing me over there!"

 

I think I'm halfway there to getting him how I want at least. The practice is good for me anyway, I guess.

 

And if you do commission someone, I'd love to see the results. Customs Eijis can look so varied! I feel like there's a lot that can be done with them, especially with making his face look more Kaito.

 

Since this was the first time I was even able to make such a thin line, I can't even imagine doing the lines for eyelashes Oh man, mine would be so bad. Terrifying to think about. At least I'm at a halfway point. I'm happy with the modding, and that area of the faceup, but it's really the eyebrows getting me. They're just so important to the expression...it's hard to get exactly what I'm going for. The eye shape is a bit hard too, but I manage with that WAY better lol.

 

I actually should be partially doing what you're doing. I tend to outline with watercolor pencil, then I go over it in acrylic after. I think I'll try my pastels + the stencil instead so I can use the kneaded eraser!

 

They split it into pages, but this is the stencil tutorial I was following. http://www.g36.net/ocdesigns/eyebrows/eye1.html I was just using the method though, not the eyebrow templates. Though they are handy.

So Kaito has gotten a temporary and Halloween-related change today

I'm preparing his costume for the convention. I was flipping back and forth between a lot of costume ideas for him, and after seeing these eyes...I finally was able to pick just one.

 

 

So he'll be attending Resin Hearts as a humanized/gijinka Luxio! Since I collect Shinx/Luxio...I'm glad Kaito can temporarily be a part of that. So I'll be making him a simple outfit and using another wig I was working on for other purposes anyway.

 

I want more excuses to use these eyes though. I really like them. They shine so brightly! Someone stop me from making another DDH07 boy just so I can use these eyes all the time...

Totally agree. That's why eyebrows kill me so hard. While these ones don't bug me too much, I think I know what I need to do now. The highest point of the arch needs to be moved over on both sides a centimeter or two. @_@ Maybe I'll try again next week if I feel up to the challenge.

He may be holding a Shinx possibly! Since Luxio sadly doesn't have any official plush. I have one that's small enough to work, but I think I'd worry about dropping it...None of the smaller plush I have are easily(or cheaply) replaced if I lose them, so that's a concern of mine. It sort of depends on how I'll be carrying stuff that day. I'm most likely going to have Kaito chill out on my arm, so if something falls, I probably won't notice in that case.

 

I'm excited to show the outfit though! I think I've worked out a design that's simple enough for my skill level, but is still cute. He gets to have a faux fur fluffy hood as the mane. I really want to pull that off well.

 

I would love to see Rin as a Sylveon though! I think that'll be totally adorable. The candy pop dress works well there. And so does Rin's face, honestly. I hope you can come up with an idea for your Kaito too! It does get rather hard to decide when you have over 700 choices in Pokemon these days.

If you're worried about the plush falling you could attach it to him in some way. Maybe with a safetypin? If you dont want to get a hole in the plush or in his clothes/whatever part of him you'd attach it to, you could also tie something around it and tie that around his arm or waist - you could hide the thread under his clothes, or make it looks like he has the plush on a leash which could be cute. That way if it does fall he'll save it.

My dolls are an extension of my pokemon team collection(my trainer/s as dolls + their pokemon as plushies, etc) but I haven't really thought of dressing them up in pokemon cosplay! If I ever do, I'd probably go for either Cinccino, Azumarill, or Mawile since they're the most prominent members in my team.

 

...and now I can already imagine a photostory if I went with the M/Cinccino route. xD I have to focus on getting my trainer doll herself more 'complete' first before any of that happens though!;;;

One of my Canvas Shinx plush doesn't have the hang tag attached, so I may go with that one! Since the lighter color would match his outfit more. Still debating it.

 

I would love to see a Cinccino or Azumarill outfit! I love those two! Azumarill is also big part of my team. I love using it.

 

I keep telling myself to finish Kaito's actual outfit before these side costumes so he can be "complete" but...that didn't really happen lol

Pictures of him and plush...I can definitely do! I think I'll probably take one of him in my entire Shinx plush pile!

So I've still been working on costume stuff. I finally finished this freaking wig. The yarn on this one was thinner, so it needed more wefts.

I hadn't forgotten about my Diamond Dust plans! I'll be using this wig for the Luxio costume too, but that's what it's ultimately for. I need to replace the top wefts though. I lost my darker blue yarn and I just really wanted to be done with it for now.

 

Annnnd...someone got new hands Thanks to jazijaz for selling the peace hands to me. I thought DD hands were supposed to be big for the peg on this body, but they weren't at all. They're a pretty snug fit. Now to buy some more wrist pegs and more DD hands...

 

 

Thought I'd mess around some more. Because I LOVE the Halloween season. I often wish my birthday was before Halloween rather than 3 days after...feels silly to throw a Halloween themed party in November. So I'm enjoying it while I can!

I love your Kaito! And the wig looks fantastic. I think his eyebrows are great.

It inspired me to try something and it turns out I can also fit the DD hands on the smartdoll...they look kinda small though so I might try Len's bigger hands once he comes. If that works then maybe my Kaito can finally have peace hands too ;-; Only problem is they're pretty loose.

I always needed to use the hair dryer to change the normal hands, it actually drove me nuts XD the large ver. hands don't need it, I can remove them easily and they stay firm. That's why I changed all my normal hands to large hands, I'm glad they worked for you though!

That's odd. Hand sizing between companies is so weird! I wouldn't think SmD hands were smaller by that much. Good to know! When it comes to the looseness, since I was expecting it from what other people said, it seems you can bulk it out with putty to make them less loose. I'm actually really curious about the color matching too if you do that. I don't think I've seen direct comparisons between the Volks colors and SmD ones.

 

Admittedly, the match between the arm and DD hand does bug me a bit, it makes the Obitsu body look SUPER yellow in comparison. At least it's going to be Fall and Winter, so I can just hide the difference with long sleeves.

Thanks! For me, I used hot water on the hands. I was shocked by how soft DD hands get compared to Obitsu! I actually really love that about them. But they were also really hard to get on too. Even that way. For a minute, I was worried that they wouldn't fit at all.

 

As for changing these hands...yeah, I'm worried about that lol. They're on here tight now that they're firm again. That's why I need to buy more wrist pegs. It's way easier for me to swap the wrist piece than the hands themselves. I already broke the wrist once from hand swapping... I'd rather not do that again!

So Resin Hearts was a lot of fun!

 

Kaito hung out with a table of resin BJD of course. I think I only saw one other DD owner, but I was too shy to say hello.

At the CodeNoir booth...they had this Dollce girl and the stars and timing just happened to align perfectly and so I got her!

I've been calling her Kiyomi or Kiyo for now. I think that's the name I'm sticking with. I didn't think I'd end up with a girl...but now I'm so happy I did.

 

Sorry, Kaito, you have a very little sister now. But I don't think he minds.

Somehow, Kaito ended up being a Shinx rather than Luxio. ....I had fabric mishap after mishap. But hopefully I can pick better fabrics from here on out. I'm glad he still came out cute.

 

And I'm having a good time with my new girl. She doesn't have joints and she's all soft vinyl, so that's new to me. But she's just somehow really fun regardless!

If it bothers you, you might be able to find a yo-sd size body to stick the head on. I've seen vinyl heads on resin bodies before so I know its at least possible. Yeah, she's roughly Yo-SD. But not quite. She's 30cm and all around just sliiiiiightly bigger than your standard YoSD dolls? I have to find out what clothes people with 2D Doll and SQLab YoSDs buy. She's really large in the hips like those dolls are, so I've already been having trouble finding things. Aside from CodeNoir's dresses. Since that's already what she's wearing lol.

 

If I did want to upgrade her body, I'd a feel a little bad. I would have to open her neck myself. It's really odd! Her head just sits on a round peg on the top of the neck. There is no actual neck hole. But I am considering it for later. I may make a thread in the Off-topic dolls area to show her body and ask around for clothing recommendations too lol.

I really like the anime look it gives too! Maroon/Yellow is such a weird combo in theory to me, but it works for this wig! Her eyes are purple as well, so she somehow looks good in both natural colors and "anime" colors. Her fullset came with a brunette wig too, so I've been switching them back and forth already

 

I get the feeling that I'm probably going to end up with a million different wigs for her.

 

I'm glad your girl can get some new hands now too! I have to admit, I do love the way the DD ones are sculpted a lot more. There's just somehow more detail in those hands. And they feel smoother lol.

It is a bit refreshing! I don't know what I'll do with her personality-wise yet, but I am happy to have a doll to buy big frilly dresses for But yeah, she's not BJD or Obitsu. I don't how Dollce goes about making their dolls though, unfortunately. I'm not quite sure what category she would be put in.

 

And now that you said that about Junkyspot...I feel SOOOOOOO stupid. They may not have answered you because they were at the con I was at. I could've asked them in person and it just totally slipped my mind! I got so distracted with Kiyo that I sort of skipped over their booth a little. They may get back to you this week now that the con is over though? I'm not sure.

 

And yeah, I feel bad for pushing Miles off...but I figured I probably wouldn't get this chance again. He'd understand lol. Even with the huge size difference, Kaito very much looks like a proud big brother standing next to Kiyo, so at least they get along just fine!
