Help me find this doll?

Recommended Posts

So I've stumbled upon what is likely a custom doll that I would like to recreate something similar and I'm not sure where to start lol. The doll in question is here

_DSC0605

Its based on the character Shia Flatpaddy by Syroh, a favorite doujin artist of mine. It looks like probably a DDdy body with a custom head? Are there any heads that have that cat teeth look already?

Any help would be much appreciated =)

I did message Syroh on flickr but he has not replied, probably busy with conventions going on and stuff.

It could be a customised head it or more likely the SQ "Ryoko" -- http://www.sqlabdolls.com/xe/index.php?mid=doll&dobleepent_srl=573

You can buy SQ heads quite readily from their YJA store. Reportedly much more reliable than other sources.

http://page7.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/g147301530 for one of their prepainted versions.

Seconding. That not only looks like a Ryoko head, but the faceup and eyes have the look of being SQLabs too.

In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser.

Omg thats awesome, that is definitely the head!

You can see more of the body in this shot, at 2nd look seems like a DD not DDdy but I guess thats not too important it's mainly the head/wig that will really nail the look.

So the SQlabs head can go on the DD body with no issues? Sorry I'm new to all this =)

SQ heads do fit on DD bodies -- however they look a bit too small on DD3/Dy. They're fine on MDD and DDS, though. I have two and adore both, one an MDD and the other a DDS. I did try on a full size DD3 body and both just look odd.

Now this has me thinking, while I love the look of this doll as its pretty close to the character she does have kind of a meanish look on her face lol. Do you know offhand if there is any head closer resembling the source character with more of a smile on her face?

Like this kind of - https://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/1919284?tags=shia_flatpaddy

You could buy a blank Ryoko and have someone do a nicer/kinder faceup. Or go for the Moe, which is a single fang version SQ do -- one I have; http://fuyukaze.net/DD/Chen/chenproper.jpg though it was a custom, not one of their prepainteds.

The cost ends up being roughly the same, buying a blank head then having someone do the faceup, compared to buying one of SQ's pre-painted girls.

Thanks for your help guys! I talked to SQlabs and they will make the custom ryoko faceup + eyes for me as pictured here - http://www.sqlabdolls.com/xe/index.php?mid=gallery&page=1&dobleepent_srl=6867

Now I just need to decide between DD or DDdy...... hmm

I'd suggested a DDS. SQ Lab heads are, on average, smaller than DD heads. I think they look way too small on DDdy bodies... maybe passable on DD bodies if you use a big, floofy wig... but best on DDS.

Well I am planning on getting a peach pai for her eventually, i dont think they have them for DDS? I kind of want the DDdy shapely/sexy body as the character im basing it off is very busty. Do DDS have silicone busts on aftermarket?

This is the look im going for and I think the head looks good on this body, though im not sure what kind it is - _DSC0174 (1)

It's either a DD or DDS body, but the two aren't easy to tell apart in a photo like that.

It is definitely NOT a DDdy body, that much I know for sure.

Last I heard, peach pai busts aren't made for either the DDIII or DDS, just the DDII and the DDdy, but they can fit on either if you're careful. But I don't have much interest in peach pai so I'm not 100% certain.

Altho they aren't *specifically* designed for the newer series 3 bodies, you CAN use Peach Pai ( or other similar silicone breast pieces ) on the DDS and newer bodies. To do so you need some support underneath the silicone chest of some kind. People have modded a small MDD bust for this before but another easier way is like the way described here in this thread I did a while back:

viewtopic.php?f=31&t=13200

Those supports will work on the DDS body for sure so you can get some Peach Pai for your girl.

If you have to wait on getting some Peach Pai, I'd suggest either the Shapely or regular L-bust for your DDS girl as those breasts are plenty large and will look good for the character you're designing her after.

Hope this helps you out a bit!

Billy

Hi Billy

Yeah I wouldn't be able to buy the peach pai right away so I would be probably going with a shapely bust for now. It seems like there is a lot of love for the DDS here I may need to look into it more lol. I always was set on a DDdy because I like the more mature look, but the older body style with less pose-ability is a concern. I will need to pull up some comparison pictures to decide. I wont have the funds to buy a body for a couple weeks so it will give me some time to figure it out. Might try to pick up a used body if I can.

The thread you linked about the pai is very useful, thanks! I will def be ordering those parts wolf made if I go the DDS route.

I just realized I didnt think about how I am going to attach the cat tail and ears. The ears are probably easy enough they could probably be some kind of clips that attach to the wig that you cant see. But what do you do for the tail? I would like the tail to be something with wire inside that is posable, and attached directly to her body so when she is wearing skimpy outfits it appears realistic looking.

I am sure someone has done this before but I am not finding any great info on it

Most tails do have wires inside so you can bend and pose them as you wish.

I have many sets from http://sellinglist.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/user/suijin725eb and they're wonderful. Though the default ear setup is a stupid string system, I just cut the string off and hotglue hairclips to them.

How does that tail actually attach to the body?

Even tho a lot of people prefer the newer styled series 3 bodies, I much prefer the older ones because even tho they might be *slightly* less posable than the newer ones, they more than make up for that by being extremely sturdy and able to take a beating with few ill effects. I have found that even after upgrades by Volks to the new skeletons, they are still nowhere near as tough or sturdy as the older ones. Out of 28 full sized DD girls in my family, only 3 of them are on newer bodies. All the others are on either DD2 or DDdy bodies.

And if you go with the DDdy body ( which I agree fits the pics you shared of the kitty girl you want to make ) you won't have to worry about getting extra parts for support for the Peach Pai. The older bodies have a support part under the bust piece that you use so nothing else is needed.

So I would do some checking around to see just what you want for your girl.... the style and shape of the body you like versus the posability of something that isn't quite what looks like your ideal but is very close. There's a ton of variety out there so take your time!

As for cat ears and tails, the ones linked to above are really cool and easy to use. The ears I use I bought in Japan from the Azone store and they are just headbands with the ears made onto them. I made my own tails by buying fuzzy fabric from a craft store and wrapping it around large pipe cleaners and then stapling and gluing the fabric around those while leaving just a bit of the pipe cleaners exposed so you can bend them into a shape to hook into either undies or pants or a skirt and then the rest hangs out the back naturally. Here's a few pics of one of them on Kiririn... you can see it's easily posed too!

That tail just hooks into the back of her underwear, nice and simple!

I am sure someone has done this before but I am not finding any great info on it

I've been doing nekomimi in vinyl for ah, quite a while, over a dozen of them. (http://www.dolliehsanctuary.com/sanctuary/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=55) My nekomimis are always going to be nekomimi so the ears needed to look like they were actually growing out of their heads through their hair with minimal added height from clips or bands. They also needed to come off and reset easily to change wigs, etc. The answer is magnets. Here's a tutorial for installing neko ears (or horns or whatevers) on vinyl dolls.

http://www.dolliehsanctuary.com/sanctuary/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=67

As for tails, I am using two kinds: sewn fabric tubes with floral wire (from the craft store, it comes in various sizes) inside and jumbo chinille stems (aka pipe cleaners). The jumbo variety have a much nicer, fuller appearance than the regular chenilles stems and are better scaled to 50cm+ dolls.

In both cases the tail attachments I've done are strong and permanent. Separate the doll's bust and abdomen so you can access the spine parts. Drill or poke a small hole through the abdomen vinyl at the base of the spine, where the lowest lumbar vertebrae would meet the pelvis (in the "v" above the butt crack). Run the wire or chinelle in to the hole and reach in with needle nose pliers and pull several inches (3-4) of the wire or chenille through. Make a loop large enough to slip over the spine parts and close the loop by twist the end securely around the rest of the wire or chenille. Put the loop over the spine and pull the excess wire or chenille out of the abdomen. Reassemble the torso.

While this may not seem as convenient as clipping the tail to the clothing, it is much more posable as the tail is not just hanging from the clothing, it is attached directly to the body.

This is exactly the kind of info I was looking for, thanks! I am just so happily surprised at how helpful people are on this forum. Maybe doll people are just nicer than non doll people haha.

I think I am leaning more toward a permanent feature like you have done, I want it to really look like she is a nekomimi not just a girl dressed in a cat outfit. The magnet idea is awesome I think that may be the ticket. Man I just feel like I have so much work and planning now lol. I really am being a bit of a perfectionist with how I am approaching this because I want it to look exact and as specific as I am picturing in my head.

I have decided I am likely going to order the DDdy3 base body direct from volks and of course I need the "kitty hands" with those half closed fists. Though I see the argument for the DDdy2 style body is valid I kind of just want it to be new and also ordering from volks is suprisingly pretty cheap.

Well a little update for you guys, I ordered the SQlabs head here - http://www.sqlabdolls.com/xe/index.php?mid=gallery&page=1&dobleepent_srl=6867

I am buying a DDdy3 body & peach pai plus for the body. I now just need to work out the fine details and you guys gave me some great info for the ears / tail already and I think I am going to try to make my own. Worst case scenario I can just buy them if i fail lol.

But I cant find a wig that looks the way i want it! I basically want this exact wig but he doesnt remember where he got it

FullSizeRender

Any ideas?

Amber

It doesn't look like a very intricate wig. You can probably find one like it from Leeke. Leeke has a pink color that is a regular color, and their limited releases sometimes have pinks as well.

That is why I suggested simply buying it from their YJA store -- they are prompt and ship very quickly. Depending what proxy and shipping method you chose you'd almost certainly have it by now.

I wouldve but the head / faceup I wanted was not listed on YJA, they apparently did a special order for me which was nice, but slow =p
