AliceAlicaArisu Posted January 19, 2016 Hello! I'm very excited to be saving for my first DD but I am a little nervous about face-ups. I do all of my resin dolls' face-ups but I have never worked with vinyl before. How does doing DD face-ups differ? And, material aside, they look a little more difficult than non-animeic face-ups so I'm thinking perhaps to get one commissioned? What would you suggest? Poofiemus Posted January 20, 2016 I haven't tried to do a realistic faceup yet; I've just done anime-style faceups on both resin and vinyl. The materials are pretty much the same, save for that you should probably steer clear of Testor's Dull Cote, since it and vinyl don't always get along and therefore sometimes leads to a sticky mess. (MSC and Volks ZM are both verified as safe.) Acrylics, pastel, watercolor pencil, pearl-ex, and retarding mediums are all totally fine on vinyl. If you've done faceups on your resins, I'd say you're probably fine! Granted, getting that crisp anime look will probably require a bit of a different thought process, so your first couple faceups on a DD may turn out more like a hybrid of a resin faceup with a stereotypical DD one. It's not a bad thing, though! There's some DDs out there with softer looks that are gorgeous. Can't wait to see your first DD! In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser.
