Drizz Posted January 22, 2016 So as I continue to get more & more into this hobby naturally I feel the need to share my dolls with others. I got inspired to get into photography and purchased my first "real" camera a Nikon D3300 and got right into things with doing some photoshoots just having fun with it. Wanting to post my pictures online I was looking for a good outlet, which I have found there are a few, and then other places you might think would be good turned out to be not well recieved. For example, I am on reddit all the time and they have /BJD and /animefigures subreddits, they both allow posting pics of dolls though the anime figures is obviously more into figures and its a pretty mixed reaction there. /BJD is a bit better, though its a lot of non DD/smart doll people there and some people seem to not like the 'sexier' looking dolls. So reddit basically is no good for this. Then I found flickr which seems actually very good for photos there are a lot of groups there just for them. It does seem a bit low traffic but maybe thats cause I'm new. Instagram actually seems very good for dolls though you cant post anything NSFW there so it is a bit limiting. So anyway those are just my recent personal experiences. I feel like I want to make a photoblog type of website like this one which I love - https://japanesedollpty.wordpress.com/ So what are your favorite sites to post to? I find posting to the wrong sites you just get people that think you are weird even though its an anime / japanese related place My doll clothes & accessories shop - http://www.dolldelights.com
Drizz Posted January 23, 2016 so im not sure if my rambling OP didnt make sense or people just dont want to talk about this lol. But I decided I am going to work on a wordpress blog as my main outlet for photos and also supplement with flickr/instagram/twitter My doll clothes & accessories shop - http://www.dolldelights.com
BeyondTime Posted January 23, 2016 You might try http://www.deviantart.com/ It's basically an artists community that caters to all sorts of different mediums, and all kinds of artistic expression. To my memory it's got no policy on nudity beyond stuff that is illegal like child porn. I think they have an adult content filter of some sort that makes people opt-in to see adult content. I've never had a negative interaction with people on that forum, although some of them are kind of crazy. Not like I'm one to talk. You can post there without a paid membership. The tools for posting your images are pretty good. You get some extra features like requesting critiques of your work if you pay for a membership, and the cost is pretty low iirc. It's totally optional though. Dolls are enough of a niche that you might not get many comments, but you can link people to your DA page from other forums. The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be. “Empty wallets, full hearts.” That’s probably an apt description for the effects of DD addiction
ektorp Posted January 23, 2016 Have you tried MyFigureCollection? There is a decent BJD community you can share you photos with. The website is very clunky and can take time to get use to however.
BeyondTime Posted January 23, 2016 I forgot to mention. Nice choice on getting a Nikon. If you are interested in learning more about photography you might check out Rocky Nook Press. Their books are generally better than any of the Amphoto books I have gotten in the past. They also have a series of books on various camera models. I can't speak to the D3300, but the D800 book they released went in depth into RAW files and explained a lot of things about the camera and the digital format that weren't in the manual. Understanding what a RAW file is, and how the display on the back of your camera differs from what's in the RAW files is really important. You can also check out: http://www.nikonians.org/ Nikon-centric forum, but iirc it's a paid membership. https://craftandvision.com/ David DuChemin is part photographer and part philosopher. His e-books are cheap, have a lot of good advice, and not just on photography. http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/ General Photography forum. (With an awesome name.) YouTube can be a really good source of information about photography and photo editing in Photoshop. You can also use Lynda.com which has some decent instructional videos on Photography, but it's a paid service. The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Eustia Posted January 23, 2016 I don't take nearly enough photos of my girls, because setting up a good shoot is a huge amount of effort. But I look at the DD group on Flickr every day; https://www.flickr.com/groups/dollfiedream/pool/
baldylox Posted January 23, 2016 For pics of my girls, the main social media sites I use on a daily basis are Twitter, Instagram and Flickr. The first two are basically like texting with pics but to a much larger base of people. Flickr is good for showing your pics to a lot of people too but for me, it's basically just a repository for ALL photos I take and want to share with people online. I can link to any of them I upload so I don't HAVE to use other sites to share pics if I don't want to. I just enjoy Twitter and Instagram a lot since I know a lot of people who are on those. Of course, for actual interaction with DD people, I much prefer to spend my time here on the forums. I used to be all sorts of active over on FigureFM but that place has basically become a ghost town for the most part when it comes to DD pics. Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.

It really is a lot to take in all at once I've been trying to shoot manual here and there but mainly sticking to auto as I learn lighting, depth of field focusing, etc. I have been using lightroom for some basic exposure/tone balance, though I'm sure I could be doing a lot more with it. I feel like I need to get some props / furniture so all my photos are not just of my doll posing, though she is so good at it! lol My doll clothes & accessories shop - http://www.dolldelights.com
Drizz Posted January 24, 2016 I don't take nearly enough photos of my girls, because setting up a good shoot is a huge amount of effort. But I look at the DD group on Flickr every day; https://www.flickr.com/groups/dollfiedream/pool/ Yeah Flickr seems like a site I will be using a lot, though a lot of the groups are "DD ONLY!!" and my Smart Doll is not techincally a DD so I dont post there. But soon I will be starting construction on my custom DDdy. For pics of my girls, the main social media sites I use on a daily basis are Twitter, Instagram and Flickr. Billy Yeah I like how on Flickr I can just dump a whole album on there and then cherry pick the things I want to share out on twitter or insta. Yeah I agree these forums are awesome I really like the community here everyone is nice and very helpful. Btw guys my wordpress blog is up at http://www.animeshutterbug.com if you wanna check it out =) My doll clothes & accessories shop - http://www.dolldelights.com

Haku Posted February 12, 2016 I'm unclear on Instagram's rules. Is it that you can't post NSFW things at all or do you have to have a private page to do so? My understanding is that there is/was a large BJD community on dA, but the last time I spoke to someone about that was several years ago.
