Re-doing Miku's wig

Hey all! I could have swore I saw a tutorial on how to re-do the tails on Miku's wig somewhere, but I just can't seem to find it now.

 

I somehow managed to pull the overlap parts of the bottom of her wig out of the pony tail and some hairs were loose out of the pinched parts when I got her (she was second hand). I found my mistake, her wig was never laying completely flat on her head *headdesk* There was a small "bubble" in the back.

 

The thing holding her hair together looks like a series of elastic string? Probably something that a machine did, because there's no way I would be able to get it that precise again. I tried pulling hair through to see if I could tighten it again, but it's not working.

 

So now I think my only option is to take that string out completely, brush it all back in place and tie it again.

 

I'm SO scared. Can anyone help me through this journey? Any advice on what material I should use to hold the tails together again? That hair is heavy. I can't imagine I could just put a normal tie on her head.

I'd be interested in something like that too! My husband's Miku doll has one pigtail that is a little lumpy from a hair clip that I'd love to fix.

They sell these tiny little elastic bands for human hair that should work wonderfully for redoing ponytails like that.

You should just try and see if you can get latex free ones as normal rubber will degrade and can dry rot over time.

Her pigtails can be such a pain sometimes.

ok, so... I don't have a Miku... buuuut I have redone ponytails on diff wigs and eh...

if the hair is legit tied up (and not just ponytail sewn onto a lil stub weft) it's fairly easy to retie!

 

Just get the wig pinned up on something that is not your doll's head (to keep it from sliding around while u work) and you can either use clear elastics or elastic thread. The former are easy to buy in places like Claires, but some of the cheaper ones might snap as you're stretching them on your fingers (plus having to pull the long hair thru it might lead to a few tangles if you lack practice)

The latter is just... grab thread, wrap around base a few times, tie the knot and trim the long ends

 

Since this is a wig, u can even just use regular thick thread instead of fancy stretchy kinds. Embroidery floss comes in bazillion colors, u can find exact match for Miku's hair if u want
