Help for my first custom doll

Hello everyone !

I create this thread about a project dear to my heart, create a doll version of my favourite anime character :

 

Kuroyukihime

 

 

 

 

So, she have a very pale skin, black long hair and red/brown eyes.

 

For the body I was thinking about a DDIII body with S bust semi-white but I'm not sure for the semi-white skin because I never see it for real, but it seems to fit nicely to her character.

Is it better to buy a full base-body and buy an extra S bust or buy everythings separetly ?

 

I'm really don't know for the eyes, they looks basic but I don't really know how to find the same for dollfie.

Same for the wig, I saw some good one but I need your advise to choose the perfect one.

 

Most important, the head.

It's hard to find the perfect one, I was thinking about the DDH-09 and DDH-07 but i'm not sure.

I really don't know anything about the make up, so i'll need advice for this part.

 

So that's it, it's my first custom doll so I ask your advice on what and where to buy, what is the best part and/or important part I forgotten.

Kuroyuki has a fairly small frame, so I think Sister body might be better?

Her hair is a common enuff color, so shouldn't be hard to find. You might need to style the "ahoge" and bangs tho

That's because, as of now, Volks doesn't sell the 08 or 09 heads on their websites. They can only be bought in the actual Volks store.

 

You can always try to find one secondhand, or use a proxy/shopping service to help get one. I think a couple members on here live in Japan and have offered to go pick up heads for people, too.

A friend of mine is doing her on a DD3 SS bust body in SW (Miku's body) with an 06. She's yet to get to the faceup or outfit though, but I think the 06 will work fine for her happier/casual moments. The 09 would suit her if you want a more serious version. I don't think the 07 would work for her, though.

DDIII and DD-S can share! Maybe something super-specific to height (like tights) might not work on both bodies... but otherwise? It shouldn't be a problem in those 2 separate bodies sharing all the clothes

 

It's only a size issue if you plan on swapping actual parts like busts or legs. THAT you can't do

Volks own waterwax is a good styling product

for my Saber's ahoge I use plain boring white glue. It dries clear, and can be washed out with warm water if the wig ever needs to be restyled

Nice ! now I hesitate between S and SS bust, on some pictures she seems very flat chested and it might be more accurate

For the head I still prefer the 09 but yes the 06 can make a nice alternative version.

I believe in Europe you have to pay VAT, and it's unavoidable. If customs decides VAT is owed they will hold the doll at a processing center until you pay. I do not know anything specific about how much VAT you pay, or if a certain value must be exceeded before VAT is owed. In the USA there is no customs on Dolls, but you might have to pay a local Use Tax on any overseas purchase. You should be able to find details about the fees and process online through government websites.

I share clothing between my DIII, and DDS all the time, but things that are made to fit a DIII are usually a bit loose on a DDS, and things that are made to fit a DDS may be a bit tight on a DIII. Usually the fit is close enough it looks fine. Some clothing has additional snaps or hooks to adjust the fit between DIII, and DDS. Switching to a smaller body and a smaller bust size doesn't work as well. I can share clothing meant for a DIII M bust on a DIII S bust doll using a bra for padding, but if I try to use a DIII M bust clothing on a DDS S bust the fit in the chest is too loose, and doesn't look good.

ok thanks for the extra infos, when I ordered my Yukino I had 160€ of customs fees (the doll itself was ~450€ with shipping, yes my wallet don't like much my doll ^^)

 

For the eyes, I found on the Volks store the Type-F madder Red wich can fit pretty well.

I'll continue to search on other store, and if you found some better or think the type F is not the best just tell me

for now i'll start with : DDS Sbust SW body - DDH09 head - Type F red eyes

 

I still need to find a wig and a shop for the head..
