I've been playing a lot of point and click/VN's lately -- I finished Read Only Memories maybe a month ago and started VA-11 HALL-A recently.

Mostly I enjoy games that you don't have to be good at I have a competitive streak but I suck when it comes to shooters, racing games, etc...

Lots of shooters lately for me, but that's just cause of updates/my love of mech.

Tom Clancy's The Division and Rainbow Six Siege (when they feel like working), Titanfall 2 and Rocket League for the continuous games/PVP games.

I'm also playing Lethe Episode One, and diddle-daddling in Rise of the Tomb Raider. Plus, going back through Nitro+CHiRaL visual novels.

I'm just glad that Inigo was back (he's much better as a character in Fates than he was in Awakening imo).

His support conversations are the best XD Stat wise it's amazing how strong he levels up too. I have to say though my favourite character is Mitama. Her haikus are so much fun,

Even her special skill is a haiku,

I like all different kinds of games. My top one would be Morrowind. I also played some survival games recently, namely The Forest and The Long Dark.

From the anime section for example Hyperdymension Neptunia, Yandere Simulator and I'm just starting with Neko Para (those cat girls are so cute ).

I'm surprised I haven't posted here yet. On the PC, mostly 1st person shooters, Fallout New Vegas right now. FO4 later, once it comes down in price more. HL3 if it ever materializes. On the consoles I like JRPGs, fighting, and racing games. Right now I'm playing Tales of Zestiria on my PS4. When I finish that one, I'll probably go back to tackling Megadimension Neptunia VII until I get a PSVR, then it'll Project Diva (Which I'm rally, really, really bad at, but I just love, love, love, love Miku.).

I honestly can't find anything to dislike about it-- the writing is so great and the humor is very clever and not forced in any way (I recently finished up the chapter where you meet Alna and she talks about Anonymous in a really tongue-in-cheek manner and I thought it was really smoothly done). I love the character design and the soundtrack and I can't wait to see what more i'm going to discover the further in I get.

If you haven't played Read Only Memories, I'd really recommend it, if only because it takes place in the same universe as VA-LL Hall-A. The devs collaborated on both of the games and I think it makes them both really fantastic.

Yes! I need to get back into it, haven't played since the update. I used to be huge into Harvest Moon and Rune Factory so it seems only natural. Only reason I haven't played it more is that I got sucked into Animal Crossing again

It comes and goes in spurts, doesn't it?? You couldn't pull me away from ACNL and HHD like a month or two ago, but then I got Stardew Valley and... I'm sure poor Isabelle is wondering where my town's mayor has disappeared to

Been playing Fire Emblem Fates recently, and it's...kinda a messed up game? It's a strategy rpg and one of the big features of the game is that you can pair characters up and eventually they get married and have kids who you can later recruit into your army. Since the kids inherit stats and abilities from their parents, the game can very quickly become Anime Eugenics Simulator.

Also, the main character can get hitched with basically every playable character in the game, including her siblings. Children result from that union.

plz play Fire Emblem Awakening. Much better (more fun!) translation and the game's plot actually made sense

which path didja pick in Fates? is your Hero he or she?

Kids worked well in Awakening because they were kinda tied into the main story. Their inclusion in Fates on the other hand was completely unnecessary imho. I think the explanation how and why you suddenly have teenage/adult kids right after the S support there is pretty messed up. I still had tons of fun with both games though! I think I enjoyed the fire emblem games the most out of everything I played on the 3ds.

I've actually played Awakening! Kinda ruined it for myself though, since I grinned to the point that story battles became a cakewalk, and it just wasn't fun anymore. I did enjoy what I played though.

I'm playing a lady in Fates, and mainly on Birthright. I've also got a side save in Conquest - if memory serves me right, I'm in chapter 15 in BR and chapter 8 in CQ. I'm really enjoying both for the most part! I married Silas in BR (only because I was denied my true love - Rinkah), and just got Sophie and Kana. Haven't married anyone in CQ, but I'm thinking of going with Leo for that super squicky anime incest.

@elienti

I loved how crazy and out of nowhere that was! "They fell in love, and then uh, threw their baby into a crazy alternate dimension nobody ever talks about. Also the kids basically grew up alone and isolated from the world."

It also makes the FEF crew kinda negligent and borderline abusive parents, when you think about it.

I have Fates Birthright, and only played it for about two hours before getting bored and never touching it again. Same goes for a half dozen other games I've bought for my 3DS... keep just going back to Pokemon.

weeeeeeeeeell, considering who raised the Nohr kids, it kinda makes sense

Overall tho, the game's writing just.. so bad. Like, yes, lets throw in a random "because amnesia!" to completely neuter pro-tag's agency, but then later add in double kidnapping because reasons which makes the 3rd path absolute nonsense half the time

What exactly is the point of that memory loss at start anyway?? Not like you get to spend that much time with Hoshido/Nohr to make any informed path decision. ALL of opening makes zero sense this way!! Like, u wake up from a crazy dream that'll be Chapter 6 "pick your fate" And when exactly did u even lose your memory, as Silas mentions how much he spent time with u when u were young, but now u cannot recall at all

The Awakening timeline kids making a bit of a cameo was fun tho! Never change Owain, u glorious massive nerd you

.............I bought this game day 1 after being hyped for weeks..... the anger is still fresh

Responding to an old post, don't mind me. >.>;;

I played A LOT, before I finally slowed down. Have like three different farms all at pretty much "function on your own" level. But yeah I have 200+ hours in it. XD I have no shame, that game is amazing. The question of the day is who did you marry? :3 I was with Abby, then Sebastian, and finally Leah as my last venture. The Leah file is also the most advanced file, but has less time than my first one because I knew so much more when I started that farm.

What did you think of the updated bits? I love the updated farm layouts so much. So much creative potential, though my farms are still not that greatly organized. I overall feel like this is more addicting for me than Animal Crossing, or Harvest Moon. Though, tbf, I played ridiculous amounts of Harvest Moon when I was younger, so really, not surprising I instantly hooked to Stardew Valley. So much fun. So much.

I finally took the plunge and bought a PS4 (pro) and I've been giving my life to it. I'm in love with Fate/Extella, and I'm excited to start Star Ocean disregarding what people have said about it. And RE7 has been pretty darn fun. A good play for me and my boyfriend; just handing the controller back and forth. I bought 7 games to start with though, so I expect to be busy~

I don't think I'm anywhere near as down on FEF as you are, but yeah, the writing is kinda rubbish isn't it? And it's super weird, since I remember them making a big deal about getting famous writers to work on Fates since they identified writing as a weak point in Awakening.

Out of curiosity, do you plan on playing Shadow of Valentia or the Switch game when they come out?

Yeah that part didn't sit well with me, especially since most of the units seem to be pretty decent people who wouldn't raise kids that way. It also gets squicky when you consider younger characters like Elise and Sakura. ><"" At least in Awakening all that kid stuff happened in the future and not the present(besides Chrom.. because he's Chrom lol). I wish the writer/s took more time with this and the main story in the actual three routes... in my opinion the best written parts of the game were the prologue/Hidden Truths and Heirs of Fate, which were both DLC. However, as much as I liked those chapters(especially the ones with the awakening trio) it still left glaring continuity issues with the main story.. which exacerbates the issue that they should have worked harder to make the story make sense in the first place... .-.

Only very recently have I been able to pull myself away from it, but it's probably because right now I'm in the winter of year one and I really don't enjoy mining or fishing all that much (I've been told I should be socializing during the winter too, but... my farm can't support itself like yours can just yet I was romancing Penny at first, but then I got to know Leah and I was totally smitten. Considered Harvey for a bit but he's a huge dork and I can't get past the hipster mustache and glasses.

Somebody was talking to me about the farm layouts thing yesterday and I have no idea what either of you are talking about. When was that patch released? I got the game around Christmas as a gift from my partner.

I was and still am a Harvest Moon addict, and I feel like they (concerned ape) fixed a lot of what was wrong with HM when they were designing SDV. I still hate SDV's fishing mechanic though.

It's kinda of ironic that way, isn't it?

In Awakening the way battles were spaced out you had toooons of time to learn about your massive army & who'd make best matches & then their 'future kids' added to the plot a bit

In Fates to get anywhere near that you better take couple days and just grind thru random StreetPass castle hopping. Having kids is just "oh well, they liked it before... lets do it again" mechanic recycle as they don't serve much purpose otherwise

The translation/localization team switch did not help either. Awakening was done by 8-4 who really give distinct voices to characters in terms of dialogue (they've also done fantastic job on Tales games!)

Treehouse's work is just... bland & sterile in comparison to be honest

anyway, I'm gettin ranty ^^; Fates burned me out on FireEmblem for a while. Back to Vita visual novels

Fates burned me out on FireEmblem for a while

I've still been playing Fates non-stop, and now Awakening on the side too >_< I really love the gameplay in Fates, playing both games at the same time is such a contrast. I think I've played Fates five or six games through to the end over the last few months... yeah, Birthright twice, Conquest twice, and Revelations mostly done then I jumped to Awakening because I wanted to check stuff out (・・') I also play Classic+Hard wrong because I absolutely do not let anyone die

The rational behind the kids you really can't take seriously, they're like easter eggs most players won't get to see. And they're hilarious. Like Mitama which I mentioned before, Silas' daughter whose special skill tends to strip the opponents' clothes (??), Inigo/Laslow's daughter who... also likes hitting on girls, and Hayato's daughter who's actually Tharja reincarnated as a Hoshidan diviner instead of a dark mage. True to form, you get can to S rank with her even if you have a female avatar, she loves you no matter what

The real benefit of the kids though is that they're like 2x more powerful than their parents; their base stats are incredibly strong and they level up well. You need units to earn skills (using heart seals) and then get busy asap so you can replace them with their kids (which isn't always a clean decision, Subaki's skill stat is incredible).

Having played it so much, the gameplay is reaaaally good. Awakening is kind of crazy with how overpowered the level caps are, and the pair/duo fighting is just kind of... dumb. In Fates they actually put strategy into it so you can pair up with offensive & defensive formations, rather than Awakening where it was just luck in how they acted.

I can't remember what it's called, but I recommend the DLC that describes how Owain/Severa/Inigo was brought into the story (it's funny actually, they're veteran heroic time travellers), and some other background info like Lilith and Corrin's identity. It's also surprisingly hard and you don't use your units from your save file, you use Owain/Severa/Inigo (not Odin/Selena/Laslow).

Jumping back to Awakening though, while the battle system isn't as good I do love these characters so much more. Since there's fewer characters their stories & interactions are written much better.
