Thoughts on the E3 news anyone?

This is my first year where I've put a little effort into paying attention to E3-- previously I just kind of experienced it vicariously through social media

My partner and I watched Sony's conference together last night (at his suggestion), and when they got towards the end and they were making all of those remarks about the last game that was being presented, I got my hopes way, way up for some more news about Death Stranding... and was given Spiderman instead

Didn't get to watch Treehouse today, but I like what I've heard from other people.

There hasn't been a single thing shown up in my news feed from E3 that even remotely interests me. So it looks like the game money I've saving up will still go to games from the last couple years instead of anything new.

Currently going through Horizon Zero Dawn, with mixed feelings...

After waddling through Deus Ex machina mankind divided, being a bit dissapointed in A/AAA releases, its came about better than expected, though without its little issues.

for starters it copies its world out of Odyssey an ode to the west -- which isnt necessarily a bad thing since this is quite a lot bigger and shows what that kind of setting has to offer.

Unfortunately it shows what Nier Automata could have been if they had actually given them money and resources to make it ... atleast automata still has the fatalistic stuff going for it... that and the 60fps thing, which one of my virtual tea-club friends keeps yapping on about.

.. but foremost, it feels like the game Fallout 4 should have been (and I am saying this after playing through FO, FO2, FO-T (or brotherhood of steel in some parts of the world) FO3, and FO4 ... skipped new vegas though).

and the eyecandy is.... eyecandy ... it wipes the table with Drake4 which I might gather its based on in some way ... at least the photomode controls are identical:

I thought about getting HZD when it came out, but then I read the reviews about the play style and knew that I'd only hate it, so I spent the money on my girls instead.

Horizon Zero Dawn was a big "oh that's cool...oh wait I've seen this before, meh" for me. It was if the developers merged and copied the mechanics of Far Cry and The Witcher 3 into one game, but didn't spend nearly enough time on the content of the plot or it's key characters. I couldn't really get attached to any particular person, even the main hero. After completing the main quest and paltry side quests the world seemed very empty and there wasn't much to do at all.

**SPOILER ALERT**

Although one exception was when Aloy interacted with Nil the bandit-killer and they had some funny moments. The worst was the Sun King flirting with Aloy literally moments after she told him "the love of his life and protector" was dead. Came off so lazy and shallow you could hear my eyes rolling in my head. Run away Aloy! All the bad guys were extremely cliched too.

I really liked exploring the ruins hoping to see more holograms of the past residents, but they were so rare after Aloy grew up. To me that was the more fascinating part of the story, was discovering the "future-past".

One of the best aspects was the facial mapped animations. I mean....WOW stunning stuff.

A lot of missed opportunities in this game, but overall a good time waster that's certainly enjoyable to play at least once.

@Jglow

Wanting to get through Horizon zero dawn before any sort of rebuttal, Im a bit curious, since I've had more or less opposite feelings about this ... then again Far cry and witcher arent my cup of tea, so no basis from those.

After 80% clearance without any FAQ help and about 40 hours on the clock, all metal flowers, mugs and vantages found, and HZD did a hell of a lot better about going through the future past than Fallout 4 did, which annoyed me to great extent (I mean, how does a active member of any community get amnesia about the surroundings?)

I havent investigated how much of the choises you make in the initial phase of the game change the overall outlook, since the side quests did change stuff for the mid and end-game stuff minorly, but I considered the whole ride up to the finale and (DLC teaser), a pretty good and solid ramp up, and Aloy seemed pretty conflicted (at least to me, with my choises) about herself which I thought to be compelling enough... and the character design for me ticked too many boxes.. ahem... could have lived without the braids, but cant have it all.

Personally this still felt less of a chore to play than FO4 (which has more content in spades, but my word the repetition in it), and didnt outstay its welcome like Drake 4 (although, playing the Uncharted remaster compilation back to back before it did not help its cause).

Although I will admit feeling nostalgia with this game, for Nier: Automata in more recent terms of world building, but also something anchient like the Dig from lucas arts golden days for the end game reveal atmospheres. And also the bad guys reminded me of the first two fallouts...

So maybe it just tickles my fancy for nostalgia... Still less annoyed about paying 40€ for this than 25€ for FO4... and will be preordering the DLC, even though that apparently will come at Christmas..

I'm a big fan of rhythm games (might have said this once earlier so I'm sorry if I'm repeating myself), and recently discovered that Um Jammer Lammy, the one game in the Parappa series I haven't played, is on PSN. In my excitement I downloaded it almost immediately, but... boy, is it a trip. The whole thing is like watching a fever dream - an enjoyable fever dream but still a fever dream regardless. I'm also finding it to be a little more difficult than its prequel or sequel, as I think it has very little leeway as far as timing is concerned.

I'm a big fan of rhythm games ...

I am not, and that is a problem for me as a huge Miku fan. I have a couple of the Project Diva games, but can't play them worth beans, so I can't unlock new modules and songs. On the PSP I was able to download the completely unlocked save files so I could play the other songs, but I'm not sure I can do that with the PS4. I just have no rhythm and so my timing is always so awful.

PS4 Diva Future tone has the cash-grab option of paying to unlock all modules for both basic song sets... however even though Future tone had every diva song to date upon launch, its probably the most difficult/annoying despite the eyecandy...

Still irked about FT only having the shorter songs though.

In other news, waddling through Doom again, and Atelier Firis, and Sophie .. after being dissapointed with Valkyria revolution, went back to play the Valkyria Chronicles remaster...

I'm bad enough I just might pay the cash grab option for unlock.

As for Doom, I actually played some Doom 2 mods the other night. It was relaxing. My hand hurt the next morning as I haven't played games like that in a long time.

Right now the only "game" I'm active in isn't a game at all - Second Life.

For non-digital games, my husband just got his kickstarter version of Mistborn and I'm looking forward to playing that (as soon as they send out the corrected pieces).

Do card games count?

There's this card game shop next to my work and I ended up finally checking it out, yesterday. I bought a Vanguard trial deck. I don't normally play card games and this might be the most complex game I've ever heard of, but at least a few of my cards have cute girls on them!

Well, I bought Fire Emblem Fates Birthright. I've never played a FE, but I know Corrin is an absolute cutie. It's amazing what I'll buy if it promises me cute girls...

Super Mario Odyssey is INCREDIBLE! It does so many little things to put a smile on your face. It makes me feel like a little kid on Christmas morning playing the first Super Mario Bros. on my brand new NES.

I like to play a lot of rpgs and puzzle games, but I'm not adverse to playing some shooters or horror games if they catch my interest. Right now my free time is being split between FFXIV on my PC, Ever Oasis on my n3ds, and Splatoon 2 on my Switch.

I have fallen into Danganronpa V3 .... been at it all week, have all sorts of conspiracy theories happening and .... it's very hard to not scream at your screen in the heat of Class Trial at 4 in the morning

I started playing Undertale today. I was hoping to wait until it was no longer relevant and had completely disappeared from my tumblr dashboard, but I felt bad because my partner got it for me a while back and it's been sitting in my Steam library for a year and so I figured I should just suck it up and try it.

I'm not really impressed so far? The soundtrack is very nice, but I don't like the combat system and the characters I've come in contact with are kind of irritating. I haven't gotten very far, though, so I'm probably speaking too soon.

I played Mortis Ghost's OFF while I was in college, and it just feels like Undertale is, very tangibly, trying really hard to emulate it. Yes, there were a few times during OFF where I couldn't help but roll my eyes when some of the super dramatic/big reveal stuff happened, but these things fit well in its atmosphere and with the dialogue used in the game. I'm just not seeing that with Undertale so far.

(sorry for the rant I guess i just like art games that make zero sense and are super pretentious lmao)

I really haven't play much as far as games in a while except for a couple mobile phone games that are really just 2 min time fillers. Amazon had the PSVR for sale a few weeks ago and I bought it. I tried a couple demos out once I got it (Had to make sure it was okay as the drivers just dropped it at my door step and door bell ditched.). It was pretty awesome. It's a family Christmas present so I had to hide it away. But I'll be downloading Battlezone and the Project Diva VR games to play.

With the Christmas event on, I'm back to only playing Overwatch. I generally main Mei or D'va but I also adore mystery heroes.

....now if only I could find that BJD D'va tshirt!

Taking an extended break from any purchases to save up for Mariko!
