Dollfie Dreams and the Future

Recommended Posts

Gabriel

A few days ago, I managed to break a near 30 year old Transformer toy. Fortunately, I was able to snag a donor body for parts off Ebay. After some surgery, my old buddy should be fine.

Assuming you have committed to your dolls for the long haul, do you ever worry about what the future holds for your Dollfie Dreams? Perhaps you see a loose joint or a stain or you see pics of broken frames and you wonder what things will be like for your dolls a decade from now.

I try not to worry about stuff like that. The videogame hobby taught me that if I'm obsessed with the future of something, then I'm not enjoying the NOW of it. Still, as DDs are something of a personal investment for me, I do hope they'll be with me for a long time and the thought of their future does enter my mind.

I don't really worry about it. The market is big enough that even if Volks changes the neck joint in a future body version, there will be third party parts to keep using the heads I have. As for the bodies, I'm not worried. All bodies I have at the moment are DD3, so I can buy replacement parts if necessary, or entirely new bodies. There are other ~60cm bodies around like smartdoll and Obitsu and such if it comes down to it.

So no, not bothered about their longevity at all.

I've found stuff on Ebay that I had as a kid back in the 70s, so I'd expect you will be able to find bits as needed.

Dolls themselves go back to the 21st century BC, and are believed to be the oldest known toy according to wikipedia. They have staying power.

The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be.

“Empty wallets, full hearts.” That’s probably an apt description for the effects of DD addiction

I try to enjoy my dolls while they last, I know eventually parts will break, there will be stains, faceups will rub off... Although if I had a WS girl, I would be inclined to stock up on those parts since I suspect Volks will stop making them in the near future.
