Sakura Kinomoto's Custom "DD"?

Being a huge Clamp and Cardcaptor Sakura fan, I've of course searched for a Sakura Kinomoto Dollfie Dream when I first discovered BJD in 2011. Learning that Volks never produced one, I was kinda disappointed. But instead I found pictures of an ideal Sakura custom DD. This one has been floating all over the internet for quite some time.

Over the years I've tried to find the original source for these pics, I tried to search for the owner hoping that he/she'd reveal a bit about the process of making that custom Sakura existl! Because I'm totally clueless about the base body and the head sculpt he/she used, in fact I don't even think that body is an MDD. MDD appear to be shorter than her.

 

I think at this point I know this doll is a heavily-customized doll. I just want to track down the head and most importantly the body base the owner used. It'd be nice if some of you recognize these.

Yes, yes!! She's definitely the one I was talking about. Thank you so much I really appreciate that. It's really silly that I remember visited that thread even before I was a member of this community and never noticed the link to the owners page! Oh how silly of me! Thank you again though this helped me a lot!

 

So it turns out, yes I was right, she's a heavily customized BJD, she's not even a legit DD! Her head is an SD Rio with 80% mods done to her eye holes, nose and mouth. I'm still not sure about the body though, could someone confirm the body the owner used?

 

If I were to acquire something as delicate, accurate and beautiful as this Sakura, I'll have to pour in quite some amount of dedication, patience and most importantly money xD. I really respect the owner for that matter. Can't believe this doll has been around as early as 2002.

She's as close to a perfect Sakura as can be.

 

Here are some image comparisons of the SD bodies. The discontinued SD Girl body Rio used is probably closest to an SD10. The bust on the SD Girl is too big to be an MSD, and to me looks a bit too small to be an SD13.

I believe Volks recently announced the discontinuation of the SD13 and MSD bodies in favor of more modern designs. I don't recall all the details, and I can't find the DoA post about it.

If you don't have an account on Den of Angels you should probably create one and ask about her there. They will have a wealth of information about that body, and you may be able to find someone to mod the head in their marketplace.

Just all the information I needed. Thank you very much for your time I really appreciate it. It is kinda sad knowing that they don't release the classic SD series anymore (They're the perfect size for Sakura as well!). I also believe the right successor to it is the SD10 even though it might be a tad taller. And thank you for your suggestion, I'll be sure to stick with DoA soon when I'm ready to invest for a Sakura custom. Right now I just want to focus on my Moe v.2 that I'm about to get from a layaway in June : D I want to learn more about my Moe and BJDs in general before getting myself involved on something bigger.

I don't know the internal dimensions of the SD10, but you may be able to sand the bust down a bit flatter. Chances are it's hollow so there will be limits as to how far.

 

I think the height and bust of the SD10 are actually closer to the Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles version of Sakura than the CCS version. CCS is closer to MSD in her body dimensions in my opinion.

 

Either way Sakura is awesome, and that is an amazing custom. Be prepared for it to get expensive and take awhile. The cost of custom outfits can easily exceed the cost of the doll itself, and the good professional tailors often have wait lists for custom work.

 

You might be able to find a Kero plushie to go with her. I know they released at least one but I don't recall the dimensions.

 

You may also be able to find a classic SD Girl body, or a Rio on Yahoo Japan Auctions or the DOA marketplace. No idea what they would run as far as cost, but an important thing to look at is any yellowing of the resin in a used doll.

The MSD is being retired in favor of the MiDi. You could check to see if that fits your image of Sakura better.
