Default Eyes removal

Recommended Posts

miffimifster

I hope that this is the correct place to post this question. Apologies, if not!

I just got my DDS Mariko, and would like to replace her default eyes. The defaults are hot-glued in though, and I'm afraid to damage the vinyl of her eye-wells through removal.

Any good tricks? Freezer?

Much appreciated.

I can verify sticking her head in the freezer for fifteen minutes or so, and then pulling the eyes out, should do the trick. That's what I did with Miku when I got her and it worked a treat.

10 minutes should suffice. It's a good idea to wear a pair of soft white gloves when you do it to protect the doll from being scratched by your nails, and to protect her face-up. I would suggest do them one at a time, and when you push in the eyes will just suddenly pop free so expect the resistance your finger is meeting to suddenly disappear.

I have found with older Volks dolls that the eyes usually pop out pretty easily without being put in the freezer. I don't know if it's just the type of glue they used or if age causes it to cure.

The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be.

“Empty wallets, full hearts.” That’s probably an apt description for the effects of DD addiction

I used the same method as the video, but in case it is glued in too tight you can use hairdryer to heat the glue part up so that it will come out easier.

Very useful video! Thank you very much!

Great to know that the low-temp hot-glue just pops off so easily.

I'll be popping those default eyes out, once the Ronronshuka eyes I recently bought come in the mail.

Haha... The Ronronshuka eyes came in the mail!

I popped out the Mariko default eyes, but the glue stayed! Not sure why... However, I was able to put in the new eyes, using the glue as an extra eye-well. I used the silicone ear-plug material to hold them in place. So far, so good.

I can't post photos here yet, but I've got them up on my Flickr. My username there is MiffiMifster.

What is it, that you attach to eyes in the video and where can I buy it?

It's not my video, so I had to rewatch it, but it looks like she uses the same thing I do anyways, which are Silicone Earplugs. Without knowing your location I can't give the best advice, but I would search "silicone earplugs" on Amazon for wherever you live and see what pulls up. If you live close to a drugstore, look in the ear care supplies.

For example these are the Mack's brand that she mentions in the video, and the brand I use. I got mine at my local drug store (Walgreens for those with the Walgreens franchise).

Wow! Great! I am from Moscow! Here I have not met them!

Thank you very much for the answer!

Are they easy to detach? Ain't no any pieces of them are left on doll's skin or eyes?

They're very easy to detach, and even if there's any residual silicone left, it comes off pretty easily if you just tap the residual silicone with the silicone you've already taken out. Silicone sticks to silicone, so the best way to get stuck silicone is with more silicone!

I hope that makes sense. c:

Can confirm the hot glue came off effortlessly after putting it in the freezer for roughly 12 mins
