My First Dollfie....

Hello,

I've been thinking about getting the "Hatsune Miku" Dollfie for quite some time and now that she is being reissued, it seems like the perfect time to get off the fence. I was just curious if anyone has any comparisons/observations between Dollfie & Smart Dolls (Culture Japan) they can share? I have two Smart Dolls in my collection (Kizuna & Eiji), but this will be my first Dollfie.

Yup, the Smart Doll Section of this forum has a thread dedicated to comparing the bodies with DD3/DDdy. Reading it over again though it doesn't really make the DD3 seem advantageous in any way (･･')

 

FYI, there are four DD body types. DD3 (third generation DD) is the 'normal' one, Dollfie Dream Dynamite (DDdy) is the sexy one, Dollfie Dream Sister (DDS) is a younger & shorter body type, and Mini Dollfie Dream (MDD) is the child or very-short-person body type.

 

Miku is a DD3 with an SS sized bust.

Sorry I can't make a comparison with Smart Dolls, but I can tell you that Miku is an awesome Dollfie to start with. She has a very unique face, and her wig is one of the better quality ones Volks has produced. She comes in her own special Hatsune Miku box which is a nice thing if you have space to store it. You won't want to throw it out.

 

Volks wig quality can vary from good to dismal in my opinion. Miku's default wig was good, but the wig I received with the Senbonzakura outfit was very frizzy, and fit her head poorly.

 

Both the grey shirt and the green piping on her clothing causes stains. At least they did on my Miku, but other folks on the forum have said they had no staining issues with that outfit.

 

Sorry I can't give you any comparison with Smart Dolls, but I can give DD Miku a big thumbs up.

Dollfie are more well made than Smart Doll, but the trade off is that they're not as stable when taking photo and not so easy to balance without the stand when taking photo.

 

You will feel the difference in posing them, but if you only care about the face up and head mold, they aren't all that different.

There are a lot more Dollfie Head molds to choose from. I think they were up to 109 at the last count If you want to make a specific character you have a lot of options in terms of building your own DD body and finding the right head. Granted some of those limited heads go for big money on Ebay and YJA.

i own both SmartDoll (Mirai) en DD Miku (including snow miku)

i think, DD Miku head much better build than SmartDoll head

but, when you taking photograph of SmartDoll, she has disturbing shadow around her chin

Originally I was only pointing out that DD's give you a lot more options to customize, and wasn't trying to make any sort of quality comparison between Volks head sculpts and Smartdoll. I don't have one to compare to so I can't.

 

I do think Mirai is cute, and I have thought about getting a Smartdoll Mirai from time to time. Miku's face is very unique though even from among all the various DD. One issue I do see with some DD is the similarity between characters from the same series. Some of my IM@S DD I have to look really closely to see the differences between one head and another.

 

Volks doesn't have standard option "tanned" dolls like Smartdoll.

to those who have both Smart Doll Mirai and Snow Miku, i'd love to see pics of Mirai in Snow Miku's outfit...particularly Snow Miku's default wig...i'm curious how it fits Mirai, and how it looks (with her brown eyes)...i've searched the net but have found nothing...i have Mirai and am considering Snow Miku but wondered if i'd be just as happy with Mirai in Miku's outfit
