Buying Volks event stuff for your girl

Recommended Posts

Angardia

Hello hello

Dont know if anyone already posted something similar.

Couldnt find.

So here is my question:

Volks make quite a few events per year, they show us many wonderfull things every event!

And i was wondering how all of you prefer to buy them if at all.

From my experience i learned a few ways to buy this things as a person living outside of japan:

1. After party war click event.

2. Yahoo jp as soon as the event start and people list there the items.

3. Yahoo jp after the war click after event party.

4. From 2nd hand sites like Mandarake , jungle and more expensive sites like dollfie world.

5. From people on facebook, dollfiedreams and other forums.

I tried all of the options and i must say that the cheaper way so far is yahoo jp with proxy that under price

or if somehow i find it on Mandarake for retail/lower price as they as well undervalue.

Due to recent events i wont be using Manda ever again...

So i stay with yahoo jp + fromjapan.

How you guys/girls shop for volks event items?

I usually wait until Volks USA puts the item back on sale when there's a lottery going on and someone didn't have the money to pay for an item that they've won. I also get Volks outfits on this forum as well.

I think you're going to get different answers depending on whether the answerer is in Europe or not in Europe.

I buy event items on DD Forums, eBay, YJA, or just direct from Volks. Occasionally other sources like Jungle if necessary. Customs is a non-issue, so it just comes down to finding the right item at the right price.

When you're in Japan, either living there or for vacation, a good (unusual) source for DD items is the rental cases that you can find inside stores like Volks Hobby Tengoku and Nakano Broadway. These are stocked by private individuals who rent the case out and sell whatever they want to out of it, taking advantage of the main store's foot traffic. Some cases have doll stuff in them.

So I sew a lot of my dolls' clothes, but I still like to buy Volks event items because they're usually worth the money to me, since they're so well made, beautiful fabric, and none of the crap with fake sewn in partial shirts, i.e. if it looks like there's a shirt underneath, there probably is an actual shirt underneath.

I haven't looked at auction sites much except for shoes, because my wallet doesn't need the extra source of pain. It seems like there's often not many shoes in stock on Volks' sites, and I never have won shoes in a lottery. I am just shoe-unlucky.

I don't bother with "click war" type things on Volks Int'l because it's just impossible, although I'll sometimes wait 30-60 min afterwards to see what's leftover. I will do click wars on Volks USA because there's just less competition so it's more likely I'd get what I want.

I honestly somewhat prefer lotteries because if I don't win I'm like, "oh well, there's some money I'm not going to spend right now then."

I used to try to engage in the "click wars" when the events opened, but just found it to be pretty much a fruitless exercise. Volks USA went to a lottery method awhile back which somewhat alleviated the site traffic snarlup. I don't know if they've reverted, but I assume not.

I no longer participate in the opening events at the Japan site to give other folks a chance - most are excluded from ordering through the USA site. Mandarake is my primary source, but I will shop the Volks sites after the flurry (fury?) has died down. Doll forums are a good source for many of the older outfits.

I have proxy sites bookmarked for Yahoo Japan, and I've considered, but not yet engaged their services. Shoes are a big part of my Ebay purchases, but prices are inflated by the resellers there. How bad do you want it is the prevailing purchase guideline. Boots I may accept the price, but shoes at the same price as boots is a bit too much to swallow.

Patience is the key. Mandarake, Jungle, & Ebay have all supplied outfits & elements years after I gave up actively looking.

They sort of had a click war type thing for the recent Miku + accessories release. Trying to use the site was somewhat crappy for a bit, and they oversold the Mikuzukin outfit and had to go back and give people refunds.

I've definitely become a fan of shopping around on Yahoo!Japan. I use Noppin as a proxy, and so far I find their service to be very good and reliable.

It's amazing what people put up on the Y!J auction site and you can certainly find great treasures of clothing lots and retired outfits.

I got my DDS Mariko (Festival) girl there, and for a very unexpectedly good price. Noppin sent her to me very safely packed, so I couldn't be happier.

You were saying that you've had issues with Mandarake? I've never bought from them yet, but always mean to try them out. What was the problem, if you don't mind my asking?

I'm located in Europe so I can't use Volks USA. So if I want an event item, I'll do the following :

- check Volks International website as soon as I wake up. I refuse to get up at 4 am to engage in a clickwar.

- If it's not available on Volks International anymore, I'll check Ebay.

- If it's an older item, I'll check BJD/DD forums or Yahoo Japan and use Noppin as a proxy.
