Pickle Posted May 9, 2016 (edited) I'v seen that people have mentioned storing their DDs before in an open cabinet and of course, that you need to keep them away from sunlight. But, that doesn't answer my question personally, so I have come to ask it! I am thinking about going on hiatus from the hobby for a bit until I can get my bearings in my life straight with moving out and obtaining a secure job. I want to put my DD heads away (Miu and Umi's) and possibly put them in the closet so I don't have to keep looking at them, which results in me feeling terrible. I don't know if I should just put them into a box and have lots of bubble wrap around them with white paper towels around their faces, or what I should do. I'd like to keep them in very good condition but would like some advice and see how others might do it. Thank you for any and all help! Oni-Chan Posted May 9, 2016 (edited) If it were me, i'd put them in a box, (probably a gift box so i'd remember whats in it XD ) with white cushion or soft paper or even cotton wool underneath the head, making sure the head faces up to the top of the box, and put cushioning around the head to hold it in place, that way i imagine the faceup wont get scratched or marked/rubbed. I'd also consider putting cedar wood mothballs (Natural moth deterrent without any chemicals) or moisture absorbing sachets to just keep the heads safe. but that's just my idea ^///^ Edit: I sometimes have mini breaks from my crew, but i usually keep them in the "Playroom" which is the spare room that houses all my anime and manga etc, as well as my dolls. i don't often go in there, so the door stays closed, its dark, and most times the coolest room in my house. if i was to have a long break i'd probably store them all naked in boxes with white towels under/over and with cedar mothballs and moisture sachets :* Edited May 9, 2016 by Guest I have more dollfies than my age in years *×*
Poofiemus Posted May 9, 2016 Most of my girls are still boxed up from my recent move because I think I have a mold/mildew problem. >.< In their case, they're packed in their original boxes, with bubblewrap around them and then their own clothes as padding. Abby's still the only floating head I have had, but for literally two years I kept her in a mason jar with a bit of paper towel and/or bubble wrap for cushioning. It protected her from UV light, bumps, scratches, and just general rolling around, but since it was transparent I could just stare at it any time I felt paranoid. . . . plus it had the added bonus of getting the funniest reactions when I showed people the head in the jar. Edit: Tenses. Abby got a body last month and is no longer floating, lol. In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser.
rukitron Posted May 10, 2016 I've had one stored in their travel bag with a sheet and others in a drawer wrapped in a sheet. I guess that's okay and they're away from the sun and heat at least.
Pickle Posted May 14, 2016 Thank you all (Oni-chan, Poofiemus, and rukitron) for helping so far with giving me options to think about when storing them away! Still debating on what I am going to do myself but your help gives me some great insight! Thanks again!
galatia9 Posted May 16, 2016 I would wrap them in a soft white cloth or towel and store them in their original boxes. I would also use face protectors on their heads to protect their faceups. Jezrah Posted May 16, 2016 I'm actually a bit nervous of wrapping a head directly in bubble wrap or plastic now, since I had a head get weird yellow spots from it. If I stored a head I would wrap it in white cloth or soft white paper and put it either face up or standing on it's neck in a box. However I miss my girls when they don't have bodies so I would often just leave them sitting out on a table in my darkened craft room so that I could still visit them.
