littlebirdzoom Posted May 9, 2016 So I've been searching everywhere for information and also where to post this - sorry if it's wrong or has been answered. I just got my first Peach Pai in the mail second hand and I have two questions - 1. I'm wondering if it's a legit Peach Pai? I know silicone is sticky, but this thing is STICKY. Like it won't come off my fingers. If this is normal is there any way I can coat it with something? 2. It smells to high heavens. Like chemical smell and it's bad. I can't go anywhere near it it's so strong. Is this normal? Can I fix it somehow? I'm so excited for this bust - I want to love it. It's mostly the smell that'st getting to me. I had to put my girl next to an open window. Waiting for eternity for Volks to release more Idolm@ster girls.
baldylox Posted May 9, 2016 So I've been searching everywhere for information and also where to post this - sorry if it's wrong or has been answered. I just got my first Peach Pai in the mail second hand and I have two questions - 1. I'm wondering if it's a legit Peach Pai? I know silicone is sticky, but this thing is STICKY. Like it won't come off my fingers. If this is normal is there any way I can coat it with something? First off, congrats on getting some Peach Pai! Secondly, them being sticky *is* something that happens, all you need to do is clean them. To do that, you can either use talbleep powder or cornstarch. ( I personally use and prefer cornstarch.) To clean them, just take the bust and rinse it under warm water for a bit. You shouldn't need to use any soap or anything in order to get them unsticky. Just rinse them and use your hands ( wash your hands first! ) to wipe away any dirt. Most of the time, the stickiness comes from the silicone reacting to humidity and dirt/dust. But once you clean them off, they'll be fine. Anyways, after you rinse them off, pad them dry with a clean towel and then apply generous amounts of the talbleep or cornstarch.... really cover the bust completely with it, you won't hurt it. After you cover the bust with the powder, shake off the excess and then use your hands to rub it in well. Dust off the leftover excess with your hands until almost all the powder has come off, leaving the silicone nice and squishy without being sticky. Once all the large parts of the powder have been wiped away, you can use a clean cloth to rub the surface smooth. I usually do this just so things are even across the bust. There will be powder left on the bust and that's okay. It should stay there and this helps protect the bust from attracting dust and dirt as well as making putting clothing on and taking it back off really easy. Just check the Peach Pai every other day or so until you notice it getting slightly sticky again. If it starts to do it again, just repeat the process. It does no damage and it helps keep the Pai in good shape. I usually clean all 3 of my Peach Pai busts once every other week since that's about how long it takes for them to begin getting slightly sticky or attracting dust. 2. It smells to high heavens. Like chemical smell and it's bad. I can't go anywhere near it it's so strong. Is this normal? Can I fix it somehow? Now this I haven't dealt with before. Maybe doing the cleaning method above will help with this. I'm sure the process of washing and then covering with the powder or cornstarch will help pull out some or all of the odd smell. It's possible someone tried to clean it and used something they shouldn't have leaving that smell behind. I have heard of people using rubbing alcohol to get stains out of the silicone so that may be what it is. I'd wash them and re-powder and see if that changes it. If so, then keep redoing the cleaning until the smell goes away. I'm so excited for this bust - I want to love it. It's mostly the smell that'st getting to me. I had to put my girl next to an open window. I'm glad you got one and I certainly hope the cleaning I described above helps with the smell. Do let us know how things go with it! K-2 Posted May 10, 2016 So I've been searching everywhere for information and also where to post this - sorry if it's wrong or has been answered. I just got my first Peach Pai in the mail second hand and I have two questions - 1. I'm wondering if it's a legit Peach Pai? I know silicone is sticky, but this thing is STICKY. Like it won't come off my fingers. I only have one Peach Pai, but I've had a number other urethane parts and worked with some of these materials. If you got it second hand, I'd think it would have been around for a while and would be done out gassing, unless the the item was kept sealed tightly in a small plastic bag. If this is normal is there any way I can coat it with something? A generous application of baby powder will keep the stickiness down for a while. When it becomes sticky again, reapply. 2. It smells to high heavens. Like chemical smell and it's bad. I can't go anywhere near it it's so strong. Is this normal? Can I fix it somehow? Best thing would be to leave it out somewhere so it can continue to out gas. The smell is the material still curing. Urethanes and similar materials are two part materials, where two (sometimes more) components are combine to make the final material. One reason this item might still be out gassing is that the components weren't mixed in their exactly correct amounts. This can mean curing takes longer. It can also mean it will never cure completely. Put it somewhere well ventilated (where it won't bother you) and hope for the best. As an aside, I bought a new memory foam mattress a number of years ago and it had a horrible chemical smell. The manufacturer stated this ahead of time so it wasn't a surprise. I did have to leave it out for about three weeks before the smell subsided. I'm so excited for this bust - I want to love it. It's mostly the smell that's getting to me. I had to put my girl next to an open window. You should probably take it off of your girl till the smell subsides. No need to banish her because of the smell, or expose her to whatever is coming off of it. You don't want her picking up the smell. An untested trick might be to try applying baking soda (known for its ability to absorb odors) to the bust, or laying it on a small try of baking soda. I have not tried this so I don't know if the bust material would react with the baking soda. If you do try this, check it frequently to make sure it's not doing something adverse to the bust material. You should be able to rinse the bust under the tap to remove the baking soda, or dust and dirt for that matter. I hope someone with more Peach Pai experience chimes in here. Good Luck! K-2 Posted May 12, 2016 I don't know about silicon (element number 14 on the periodic table), but silicone (a variety of synthetic polymer compounds) can have a wide range of odors, depending on what the mixture is.
littlebirdzoom Posted May 19, 2016 Hey all sorry I haven't replied, I've had a few medical emergencies, but everything is okay. So the bust has been sitting in baking soda near a window for some time now. I did all suggested (the corn starch helped the stickiness yay! Easiest fix ever) I washed it without soap and I've been flipping it around in baking soda, but the smell is still very present. I'm really worried I just spend 200$ on something that won't fully cure and I wouldn't know what to do with it. I'd hate to pawn it off on someone else because of the smell. I wish I had any words to describe the smell and how strong it is. Perhaps I just need to wait..... even longer? I was thinking of leaving it there for a month and seeing what happened. Or doing some googling on silicone curing and smells. Or just wash wash wash. Would leaving it in water overnight hurt it? Perhaps someone did use rubbing alcohol to clean it and it's mixing with the silicone. I'm not sure, but it doesn't smell like alcohol. I'll update in a while if it worked or not. But I'm so worried :/ Waiting for eternity for Volks to release more Idolm@ster girls.
littlebirdzoom Posted May 19, 2016 A small update, I just asked the person I bought it from. He bought it from someone who got it from rajikaru, so it's been "alive" for a while. Now I'm just worried it won't fully cure :/ But i guess we'll see with the other methods yet. Waiting for eternity for Volks to release more Idolm@ster girls. littlebirdzoom Posted June 4, 2016 It looks like the smell isn't going away. Not even a little. I'm so incredibly disappointed, I've been wanting one for so long. Luckily though it doesn't seem common as some of you said. So maybe I'll just have to find another one for sale and can have peace of mind knowing it probably won't happen again. Letting go of it is still hard though *sigh* Waiting for eternity for Volks to release more Idolm@ster girls.

Letting go of it is still hard though *sigh* That really sucks. Those things aren't cheap and spending that kind of money for this level of disappointment is a real downer. An old fiberglass casting trick was to brush on more catalyst to the surface of the uncured resin. I don't know how successful washing with any chemical would be. You would have to know what the A and B components of the mix were so you could use the right chemical on it. If the components weren't mixed in the right proportions (causing this continuous off gassing) I doubt something like the "catalyst bath" would work as it would have to completely penetrate the material. Sounds like its time for extreme measures. Daily doses of febreze...A shirt soaked in perfume...Bury it in baking soda for 6 months... I'm still curious, is this a genuine Peach Pai or a copy someone else made? Did it come with any paperwork or "official" packaging?

I'm totally willing to try any of those things, but I am terrified of ruining silicone through some freak interaction I would be unaware of. But I just might try yet. I know care tips for harder silicone items, but I've never dealt with something this soft. So in my mind it would be easier to hurt since it's softer. I was thinking of putting essential oil on it, but I think I heard somewhere that oil will eat away at silicone? You know I'm wondering the same. It had no paperwork as it was second... uh... third hand. What is "official" packaging? It came with that bust it sits on top of and the inserts and wrapped in the same type of plastic that I've seen in other photos of official ones. It looks official as far as I know. The seller said that the first owner said it was official ( I didn't know this until after I bought it) but I have a hard time believing the maker of an official peach pai would send something like this off. Unless it was fine and then something happened to it along the way *sigh* Waiting for eternity for Volks to release more Idolm@ster girls.
redxmaverick Posted June 6, 2016 I had a dollfie and her clothes smell like cigarette smoke when I bought her second hand. I was able to get rid of the smoke by soaking the vinyl parts and clothes in a hot water bath with vinegar. 10 parts water 1 part vinegar. Smoke smell gone and doesn't smell like vinegar enough. I bought peach pai brand new and it had the initial chemical smell but went away after airing for a few days. Not sure why yours still smells. I wonder what your smell actually is. Since peach pai is more porous, I would try a steam bath with vinegar.

I know care tips for harder silicone items, but I've never dealt with something this soft. So in my mind it would be easier to hurt since it's softer. You are totally justified. On one hand you have a nearly unusable part that cost a lot of money. On the other hand, you can try to make it usable but stand the chance of destroying it. It's a tough call and only you can make it. I was thinking of putting essential oil on it, but I think I heard somewhere that oil will eat away at silicone? I an unfamiliar with "essential oil". I assume it is a substance that would mask the pervasive chemical smell. Maybe you can have a device to hold the essential oil and just keep it next to the doll, so there would be no contact between the two, thus no deterioration from contact. It didn't have a "factory" look, more like something that was produced in a garage (thus easy to counterfeit). It came in a plastic bag on the hard plastic stand. The "inserts" came in a small separate bag, and it came with this instruction sheet. The inserts are still inside this bust. but I have a hard time believing the maker of an official peach pai would send something like this off. Unless it was fine and then something happened to it along the way *sigh* Yeah, having a hard time believing it too.

Maybe you can have a device to hold the essential oil and just keep it next to the doll, so there would be no contact between the two, thus no deterioration from contact. Essential oils are just oils from things that have scent. Like lavender, tea tree, sandalwood. Stuff like that. If I use a diffuser it would probably help without having the oil touch it. Here's what mine looks like, it seems legit to me. The inserts have an L and an R But yeah it's pretty easy to replicate either way. Peach Pai is currently getting steamed (with monitoring). I made a list of odor killing things I can try, so I'll be slowly updating as I try them. I had a dollfie and her clothes smell like cigarette smoke when I bought her second hand. The smell seemed to be slightly lessened today, but I'm not sure if that's because I left it out in the open and it's only coming off like it lessened. Or your nose is just finally fatiguing to the odor. redxmaverick's idea sounded pretty good. Maybe add a drop or two of your essential oil to the water? Do the inserts seem to be giving off the odor as well, or have they possibly just picked the odor up from contact/proximity with the bust piece? Please let us know how this turns out

Please let us know how this turns out The inserts are also giving off the odor. They've been separated from the actual bust for a while and are still strong, so I'm not convinced it's contact smell anymore. I added some drops to the water and made the apartment smell funky. The smell certainly got worse when it was heated, but didn't seem to change much. I had a little scare when I went to check on it for the first time there was this slime coming off it and I thought the silicone was breaking down. But it turns out steam is good at getting hidden baking soda and corn starch off that was in the pores! So that's handy for future reference - you can deep clean your peach pai with steam. Test number 2! I'm going to soak it in warm water and vinegar for a few hours then steam it again. I might put some baking soda in the steamer, I don't know if it works like that. But we will see. littlebirdzoom Posted June 14, 2016 After almost two weeks of sitting in a bowl of water, vinegar and baking soda nothing has changed. I'm giving up at this point. That smell is just not going to budge. Now the question is i I can even sell it or if it's literally throwing away money. If anyone would like to experiment on it and I can't sell it, just pay shipping and I'll give it to you. Waiting for eternity for Volks to release more Idolm@ster girls. baldylox Posted June 15, 2016 I'm sorry to hear you've had all these smell issues with the pai. It really sucks that nothing has worked. But on that note, if you're serious about someone taking them off your hands to try and do some experimenting on them and paying you shipping, I'm game. I sent you a PM about this too. There's a few things I'd like to try and see if they work. Not sure they will but what the heck, it can't hurt to try and then report back here with any findings! Let me know what you think.
