I saw Dollfie Dream Mirai on the Volks website in 2003. I couldn't stop looking at her.

http://www.volks.co.jp/en/dollfiedream/characters/mirai/index_mirai.aspx

I really liked the message in her description:

5411197394_11e868e2c1.jpg

It basically says that everything about her is up to you. You give her a personality and make her come alive. I think this is a central concept with Dollfie Dreams.

I eventually adopted a DD Mirai a few years later, but my first Dollfie Dream is a custom DDH-01 with the M-bust DDII base body. I got her in 2005, but I remember how amazing I thought she was when I first saw her. I remember thinking about how detailed she is, how delicate her features appeared, and how cute the DDII body line is.

Wow . Rather inspiring if I do say so myself . The 'customization' part you mentioned is truly one of the most rewarding and fascinating experiences of owning a Dollfie Dream. They just have so many different characters inside, waiting to be unlocked . Thanks for sharing!

The first time I saw a DD was on Danny Choo's site. I had been collecting anime related figures for a while but I'd never seen anything like the DD's before. Of course with me being a guy, the body shapes really pulled me in. I just didn't understand how they had such good looking girls being so big.

A year or so later, I found myself adopting Manami and when she arrived, I still wasn't ready for her. The sheer size and beauty of the DDdy setup was amazing. I had never owned anything so cool before. And I was actually quite bashful with her the first few days.... She had on a body stocking that covered her chest but I wanted her to be able to show off that clevage so I wanted to take it off. You should have seen how long it took for me to get her clothing removed and put back on... I even made sure not to peek at her chest. I felt really awkward at first but as you know now, Manami is all about showing some skin.

Aww, that's so sweet! The part about you being so bashful and gentleman-like . Lol, naw man I'm just kidding. Made me laugh is all . I felt terribly awkward (and I'm a girl!) when my first Dollfie Dream came in. She has a DDdy body too, but I just learned to get over it (like you did) and now it doesn't bother me so much anymore .

The first Dollfie I came across was Saber. But not Danny's Saber, I was on a Type-Moon message board. The site didn't really give me much info, I thought I could get one off HLJ... Then I kind of forgot about DD Saber, at least until I came across Danny's.

Eventually, after following Danny and his Dollfies for a few months, I adopted my Aoi-chan, in August of 2009. At first, she just kind of hung out up on a shelf, leaning on her sword. After she had been with me about a week, the clothes I ordered from HLJ arrived, and then I really started to have fun with Aoi. I started taking photos of her, and posing her. I needed more, of course. More clothes, and more Dollfies! Louise joineed the family in November, and then Natsuki on dec. 24! (best xmas gift ever!). I think Aoi has really helped me become a happier and more out going person.

Those are some pretty speedy adoptions . Understandable though, as we're talking about Dollfie Dreams here right? Can't leave em' alone! Looked through your album just then by the way, and I must say that your girls are so pretty and sweet! I can tell how they could make a person a bit more jolly .

It was when I came over to Chad's apartment and saw Yumiko sitting in his armchair, looking so small and vulnerable. She was just...omg gorgeous. And Chad was so casual about her. It was clear from the git-go he hadn't bonded.

The more I hung out with her, the more I loved her. To where, finally, Chad said, "AX is coming up, you want to take her with you?" Uh...yeah...of course...

Anyway, I had already gotten addicted to 1/6 scale dolls by then. I triumphantly brought her home with me on the train, and noticed that people would walk by and just pause, looking at her. "She's a Japanese doll" I would explain. "She's beautiful." People didn't say "she's weird" or "she's creepy."

And now I have five. Three DDs, two Obitsus. And they are just amazing. I'm an addict.

I first took notice of DDs back in November of 2008 upon seeing what I know now was Volks' first cellphone photos of Saber Alter on a forum. I've never really liked dolls despite having grown up around them, but this was the first to make me think "wow, I really like this doll!". I thought about customizing my own doll, but quickly forgot about it.

About a week or two later, Kigal and I went to Mandarake Complex in Akihabara and they had quite a lot of Type-Moon merchandise in their front display window - being the Type-Moon fan that I am, I went to check it out and who should I see but DD Saber! This was the first time I'd seen a DD up close, even though I knew nothing of them - price or even the name of the of line - but I was immediately curious since Saber is one of my favorite characters and the doll was so beautiful. I checked the price and remember being quite shocked and telling Kigal "we can't justify this!", so we left and tried to forget about her (unsuccessfully, lol).

In early January 2009, we just decided to take the plunge and get her or Saber Alter (whoever we found first - of course we had to miss Dolpa 20 and the after event for Alter, we didn't even know what they were at the time ^^;). Of course, by that time, the Saber at Mandarake was gone and they didn't have any more of her. We pretty much looked all over Akihabara for her to no avail. On our last week in Japan, we decided to check Mandarake in Nakano Broadway - and lo and behold, there was Saber! I remember literally shaking as we paid for her, but was super stoked. After dressing her up when we got back to our apartment, I was just absolutely amazed by her. I probably got hooked on DDs at that point, and two years later we have a nice bunch of them. ^^;

On a side note, I feel like Kigal and I are one of the only ones who weren't influenced to get a DD by Danny Choo, seeing as we didn't even know who he was until afterwards, lol.

It's too funny you mention this. When I found my Yoko in Osaka at a secondhand shop, I too did the same thing. My friend that was with me being my tourguide and translator told me after I bought her that he could visibly see me shaking as the sale went down. I know I was nervous as hell when buying Yoko because for one, I paid so little for her compared to what I had seen her sell for before and two, I was actually BUYING A YOKO!!! I was all sorts of giddy on the train ride back to my friends place.

At first, my friend was not into watching or helping me look for DD stuff. But after he saw how much I was into them and that other guys were also really into collecting them, he loosened up a bit and had more fun with it.

What a cute story! Bonding is definitely an important part in owning Dollfies, and it's so sweet to know that she found a loving home . It's good to hear also, that while you were on the train no one spoke badly of her or anything. Makes me sad when they do .

P.S. Lovely dolls! . I took a look at your album.

Well, I got Sakura through the Volks USA lottery, so it wasn't as expensive as it sounds. When I saw Mari was still up on Volks Int. I couldn't resist. And I had actually been saving up for Yui, ( though I spent that money on Mari...) so when a figure.fm member posted his up for sale, I managed to work out a deal, and have been scraping by ever since...

Well, money's been a little tight, but mostly cause I keep buying other non-Dollfie stuff like scaled figures, expensive LE Figmas, and so on... I'm still paying all my bills, but I couldn't get enough together for Saber Lily or White Christmas Alna in Dec.

Ah, well we live and we learn eh? Spent a bit too much money on a couple of things myself last year . Having enough to pay your bills though is definitely a good thing

Speaking of looks on trains, imagine if you can this scenario...

ME ( all 5 foot 11, 235 pounds with shaved head ) riding on a train from Denden Town with a HUGE Volks bag in hand that has the "Super Dollfie" logo on one side and the Tenshi Boutique logos on both ends.

Now picture 2 Japanese boys and one girl in their teens eyeing me and trying not to be obvious on the other side of the train.

I saw exactly what was going on after several glances from one of them. I made sure to watch without being noticed and when the main one doing the staring ducked back to whisper something to his friend and ALL THREE of them lean my way at the same time, I knew it was time to act.

I was facing kind of away at first but when all three of them looked at me, I made eye contact with all of them, turned towards them directly and smiled WIDE. They all leaned back a little and then I waved, pointed to the bag and then gave them the thumbs up. They all sheepishly smiled, waved small and belittled waves then proceeded to not look at me the rest of the trip to the station.

I do so love making things go wrong for people....

It is rare when they do. And by rare I can count the negative reactions on one hand. And I was razzed only once. I can show you the picture at the exact time when it happened.

Some clown giggled at me, then said, in a falsetto voice, "Oh I just love these tomatoes!"

I burst out in laughter.
