how to make dd eyes?

Recommended Posts

Joey eljaber

so i was playing a game and i found amazing realistic/somewhat animetic eyes in it, so i managed to get the texture off of it and make it into just the iris with no background or anything, it's a very large texture(VERY large) and i don't know what size to print it at so it'll fit 24mm eyes that ill buy in the future ^^;

and i bought two sheets of paper that was somewhat pearlescent/metallic and it's kinda 'spensive to experiment too much , so if anyone has like a premade template where i can resize and place the eye textures based off of it, that'll be great!

if you want the texture PM me since i can't post links in posts yet

You could print the design on regular paper until you get the size right, and then print it on the more expensive paper. just scale it down a little each time until the dimensions fit what you want. It's hard to give a perfect template because how much of the eye hole the pattern fills is really personal preference.

I've never made doll eyes (not this kind, anyway) but I HAVE made badges for conventions and stuff and yeah, for fiddly sized things that need to be an EXACT size, its best to print out multiple drafts - even if you print them black and white on regular paper on the lowest quality print setting. Getting the right size takes a lot of trial and error but if you do black and white drafts at least its not expensive. An idea to cut down on the amount of paper you use is to have multiple sizes printed on one sheet (but make sure you remember which size is which, even if you have to write a note next to each eye of the dimensions). I did this when I made my own waterslide decals for a custom pure neemo head.

Once you know you have the exact size right you can print high quality on the expensive paper with no worries.

Are you using the Pupa Paradise D.Eye.Y bases? The iris on their 24mm bases are 12mm wide. Make a 12mm x 12mm canvas in whatever editing software you're using, and set it to 300 DPI or higher. Edit to your heart's content--different colorways or whatever.

When you've got what you want, set up a new dobleepent to letter size paper, and *set it to the same DPI as your 12mm file*. Then you can place two copies of your 12mm file onto the letter size paper. Make sure you leave enough space.

If you're doing resin eyes, though, you can make the iris whatever size you want/need, so you'll be doing the drafts like Torino is suggesting. Drafts are also good if you haven't decided what size eye base you want to get from Pupa Paradise--the irises move up in size 1mm for every eye size. You'd print those on cheap paper, check the sizes, and pick prior to ordering.

In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser.
