Different ways to transport your girls?

Recommended Posts

sinclair

I'll be traveling most of July, and would love to take Miku with me. But Volks USA doesn't have the DD bag in stock. I really wanted it so that I could put it with the other bags in the back of the SUV and know she was safe. Short of borrowing one (If anyone in the PHX, AZ metro area that's willing, PM me PLZ.) what would be a safe way to transport her? One of the trips will be a large family reunion, so there's going to be kids everywhere, so wrapped in a towel in my backpack makes me nervous.

For your average meet or photoshoot I prefer the Volks carrier. However if I'm going on a car trip and want to make absolute sure that they're safe with my other things I have a hard sided case that was converted from a ukulele case. I ripped out the isides and relined it in fluffy white fabric myself.

I haven't traveled far with my girls, but I've found padded tripod bags to be the perfect size for two dolls. My husband has one he doesn't mind me borrowing, so it works out well.

At home:

DDH-05: Kimiko

DD Snow Miku: Miss Yum Yum

Smart Doll Ivory: Yuki

Smart Doll Chitose

Smart Doll Eiji: Hotohori

DD Saber Extra

DDH-07/SmD Hybrid: Maki

Smart Doll Harmony

Smart Doll Twilight

DDH-10 MDD: Anzu Futaba

Smart Doll Crimson Kai: Takeshi

One good bump can ruin your doll's day so I prefer the hard case to the soft bag. My first choice is the Pelican 1535 case. It's the maximum allowable carry on size and it's got all the legendary Pelican features. I take the pick and pluck foam out and use towels to pad the dolls. You can get 2-3 DDs by putting them in sitting positions and using your Tetris skills. This baby will run you about $230 and worth every penny for protecting my dolls from the rigors of air travel.

For local travel I use something you may find a bit more affordable, a toolbox. My toolbox of choice is the Contico 8260-4. It's made of structural foam so it's strong, light weight, water proof, and above all, reasonably priced. Again I use soft cloth to pad the interior and wrap the dolls. You can get 2-4 DDs inside. The 8260-4 will run you a little over $40 and will last for years.

Mine was a tool box for 15 years before it became a doll case.

It isn't pretty so it doesn't attract attention.

I've modified the top tray in mine so it will hold 2, 50cm dolls and made custom sized blankets for the top and bottom compartments.

And the bottom compartment will hold two more, for a total of 4, 50cms.

Well, I'm been looking for a hard side carry on bag on eBay, but then I saw that Volks restocked their bag, so I ordered it. But I still like the idea of a hard sided case. I'd actually love to get a Rozen Maiden style suitcase some day.
