Holy cow, Danny Choo got his first anime license and it's Girls und Panzer of all things. I'm really not a fan, but I'm still amazed. This series is HUGE, to the extent that its actually really surprising no other company has made dolls of it yet. The revenue he'll undoubtedly get from this (given that the franchise seems to just be a money factory with otaku) will likely fund many more character dolls.

 

He'd spoken about wanting anime licenses before but I didnt expect this so soon. I can't wait to see what else happens, especially in terms of male characters.

Really hoping he does some new bodies too because Miho's body-type is much closer to azone50 than the leggy smart dolls.

 

She's planned for release in October this year and will be a non-limited release, just like the other smart dolls.

Oh, maybe this means new sculpting talent? Or an outside aesthetic to maybe balance out Danny's preference for flat faces? I will *literally* scream with unbridled joy if we get an SMD headmold that actually has some depth to it!!!

I think this news is awesome and it opens the door for so many possibilities for him and for us. If he does well with this, it will allow him to go after more licenses and add more talent to his company along with more characters and styles of dolls. It's pretty much a win-win for everyone involved, especially if he makes all of his licensed dolls non-limited. He knows EXACTLY what pisses doll owners off about *other* companies and is doing whatever he can to not follow suit, which is wonderful.

 

All I have to say is if he gets the license for "Inuyasha" I am totally DOOMED. I've always said that the only way I'd add a male doll to my family is if there was a nice looking Sesshoumaru from that series. I can't imagine how cool one would be if Danny was able to do characters from that show!

Ooohhh, sweet! Although I'm not interested in this character I'm super excited about this. I want a tan girl but I wasn't 100% on either of the current sculpts, this could give opportunity for more if it goes well.

 

Also, yay for boys being released. I will certainly not frown at more vinyl boys.

I'm pretty eh on Nishizumi, but at least he finally land some sort of license.

I know nothing about anime. Okay not nothing. But I don't /watch/ it as fervently as hobbyist's do.

 

However Dollfie's were my first exposure to animetic dolls and the array of heads they have (okay array is a bit much I know). Makes me excited for the future heads and bodies of Smart Doll.

 

I think with more leg movement, all these cool anime characters that are out there can really live up to their potential as Smart dolls.

He's announcing a guy too?! Oh my god I cannot wait. Especially since I was considering purchasing Eiji soon.

Oh wow!! I haven't watched the show so I can't say I am a fan but it's still really exciting news! More than likely if she has a cute mold I'll want her anyway (or the guy, depending on who it is!) I'm also really happy to know that his licensed character dolls won't be lotteries or limited stock. What a relief!

 

I may or may not have posted my wishlist on Twitter with a convenient hash tag *cough* but I really want some Noragami or RWBY dolls. I also kinda hope maybe he'll do Vocaloids. I know Volks has the license for Miku and the others, but maybe he could get a hold of a license for Gumi or IA...or even SeeU?? (My list is rather extensive hahaha)

 

Either way I'm really excited to see what Danny contributes to the Licensed doll market and I really hope she does well so that he can do more! I shall wait impatiently to see who the new guy will be!

I doubt he'll do Miku solely because he's said multiple times that he has no desire to compete with Volks. I doubt he wants to do any character they've already done - which is just as well tbh because I want more variety than alternate versions of existing things. I've seen some people on FB all 'oh i hope he gets -character there's already a DD of-, I really wanna see them in smartdoll style!' and i'm just like nooo I want new things D:

Non-Crypton vocaloids like Gumi are a possibility though! Lord knows they dont get enough love in the merch department.

 

There's a ton of characters that I'm continually surprised havent become DDs yet, like the Dangan Ronpa girls or the Ace Attorney girls. (I'd definitely get a Maya/Mayoi doll, whether its a Volks DD, Super Dollfie or smartdoll, in an instant!!) There's a lot of possibility and I'm really excited about it.

Maybe I'm remembering wrong, as it was a long time ago, but I thought he announced he wouldn't make female licensed characters in order to not compete with Volks and other companies. Or was It just not creating existing licensed characters? I was talking with some friends about it and he did mention creating male Smart Dolls for Death Note and Metal Gear. That said, I would love dolls from Sailor Moon, Cowboy Bebop and Tokyo Ghoul just to name a few.

Oh yeah!! I totally meant non-Crypton Vocaloids, although I'm not gunna lie, I'm still waiting to see if someone makes a Megurine Luka. I guess you could really make any character you wanted with existing DD/SmD parts and heads but, the unique mold is part of the fun, I think.

 

I'm on the boat too of hoping they get a sculptor or change their sculpt up a little bit with new characters. Miho seems to have a little Chitose look to her, so I hope she gets her own sculpt and it's just an existing one with a different face up and clothes xD

I am quite interested in what licences he manages to pick up. Limited edition exclusivity is so engrained in Japanese collection culture that many rights holders may be reluctant to allow less limited (or unlimited) runs.

While I don't have much interest in this character, this is exciting to see him actually brancqh out. Could bring some (hopefully) interesting sculpts and characters in the future. She may be super cute and I'll change my mind haha.

And now I almost want to wait until October to order my first Smartdoll, even though I had sort of decided on Chitose.

I'm delighted about this, I haven't even watched Girls Und Panzer but now I'm just wondering how many other anime characters Danny can make into Smart Doll!!

 

It would be an absolute DREAM COME TRUE to see the Shaman King characters as Smart Doll boys
