Ie-Aster Posted August 30, 2016 (edited) Potential prototype appears on Smart Doll twitter! I say potential prototype because she looks a good bit like Miho... Edit: removed image because did not want to get people falsely excited. I was an idiot and got excited when I saw her and not being really familiar with Girls und Panzer overexaggerated surface resemblance. Doll in question is just a Chitose clone/repaint. elianti Posted August 30, 2016 She's cute! I love her smile. Though I think she looks a biiiit much like Chitose and Mirai put together... xD
Monty Posted August 30, 2016 That's because it's not not her, its an alternate faceup on Chitose. Cover her mouth. He wouldnt do that for a character doll. (Not to mention I dont think the face looks anything like her, the eyes arent even the right style. Miho would have 'droopier' eyes.)The way he talked about her it sounds like he just made her as an experiment in smiling Chitose (with brown/red eyebrows) and now cant decide if he should keep as a new character or not. He was posting her to see if there was any interest in her, hence why he calls her a 'product candidate' on facebook. It's not surprising because a lot of people - myself included - had said before that we'd like to see a version of Chitose with a different facial expression. There's no way he's reusing any sculpts for a character doll, in fact if he even uses the same body for Miho I'm going to be shocked. It wont suit her at all. *twitter*instagram*art*
Ie-Aster Posted August 30, 2016 I'm really sorry, I was stupid to get excited and post this. I thought it was a new sculpt (and Danny did say he was making a new Miho sculpt) because the mouth seemed wider open than Chitose but now I realize it's just that the lower lip is painted to be a tongue. And I'm not very familiar with Miho (or what it takes to properly render an anime character as a doll) so I saw the hair and eye resemblance and the-what-I-mistook-for-new-mold and that was it >__< I'm really sorry for anyone who got false excitement on account of my incompetence at recognition At home: Mei (DDP Lucy custom), Aku (DDB Takane custom) En route: L. elianti Posted August 31, 2016 Hey, no worries Ie-Aster, I'm not really familiar with her character either but the wig+eye color combination plus Danny saying she is a possible new release would make me think she may be a prototype Miho too.. No wonder why she looks so much like Chitose then, since she IS the same sculpt. xD She's still really cute, and in the Twitter comments Danny said he'll try a look with freckles? I'll love to see how that turns out. ^^ For Miho I would really be pleasantly surprised if Danny would make a shorter girl body for her! I wasn't very optimistic because Chitose wasn't released on a shorter body, but hopefully he's had enough sales to manufacture one. A hopefully eventual shorter Tea-skin girl would completely save me the stress of a fullbody dye project too... ;___;" A new Girls Und Panzer animation project was announced in the past few days too so it'll be interesting if that'll generate more hype/sales of smart doll Miho. chikemuri Posted August 31, 2016 I'm not familiar with Girls und Panzer at all but from what I can see, it's going to be a cute sculpt. And this means maybe there will be more licensed dolls in the future, so that's exciting. I hope some new info comes out soon, I'd like to see the doll with a face up/clothes on. Ahhh the possibilities
SolicitorPirate Posted September 10, 2016 Girls und Panzer is a huge get for a first license. Bit surprised he went with Miho though. Sure, she's the main character, but she's pretty boring visually. This is particularly noticeable since GuP has a pretty colourful and distinct cast. If they do make more GuP dolls in the future, I really hope we get the lead character from the Ribbon Warrior manga. Especially if she comes with her samurai warrior armour
SamND1967 Posted September 29, 2016 Think we might get a teaser/preview soon? Her release date is supposed to be only a few weeks away(roughly a month).
seventhfonist Posted September 30, 2016 Think we might get a teaser/preview soon? Her release date is supposed to be only a few weeks away(roughly a month). I hope so. With all that Danny has claimed to taken on, I'm worried that she will get delayed.
Nozomi02 Posted September 30, 2016 Sounds like the licenses are taking first priority, though. If I had to guess, I'd say the lack of prototype pics are due to whatever legalities are part of the licensing agreement. Could be the company that owns the license only wants the finished product to be seen by the public. And/or they want a big, dramatic reveal to get people talking. SolicitorPirate Posted September 30, 2016 I remember a Western indie game dev mentioning the Japanese game and anime companies he works tend to be far more controlling on reveals compared to Western norms. Maybe it's a similar case here?
Eiko82 Posted October 9, 2016 I read in Danny's newsletter that Miho will be released on the 23rd of Oct. Living at my place: Rise (DD Rise Kujikawa), Chie (Smart Doll Mirai) and Aisha (Smart Doll Kurenai)
SamND1967 Posted October 9, 2016 I read in Danny's newsletter that Miho will be released on the 23rd of Oct. Yay! Just two more weeks! He wants to build up the hype for this one, xD
SolicitorPirate Posted October 9, 2016 It feels odd that we haven't seen any pictures of the doll with less than two weeks from release. Is this common?
Talolili Posted October 9, 2016 It feels odd that we haven't seen any pictures of the doll with less than two weeks from release. Is this common? Same here. He seems to usually post many promo shots on FB, IG etc. I guess maybe because this is a licensed doll? Even Spike had a behind shot though (If that was indeed the actual doll). I'm not really sure why it's so secretive.
Monty Posted October 10, 2016 Well he did say that Sunrise gave him the greenlight to announce things when he sees fit, so the Spike teaser is his own decision. Since the release for Spike is further away though he might not plan to show more until its closer to/in 2017. The rights holders for GuP are probably just less lenient though. You see this with figures and stuff too - there are some characters Good Smile Company can show draft images of (those 'grey prototypes') and then there are others you literally never hear of until they're up for preorder. I dont understand it myself, I think seeing the item take shape from prototype stages unveiled at Wonfest etc is a lot more exciting and builds suspense and gives you a lot more time to decide if you want it or not. What I'm curious about is whether the date is for her actual sale date or a preorder date. If its the latter it doesnt matter too much if theres no pics until then, but if its the former there will probably be more teasers in the week leading up to it. (what i'm MOST curious about is still her body, after all, and if its new it would probably also be kept under wraps. Please dont just whack her on the existing leggy smartdoll body danny...she'll look so weird.) *twitter*instagram*art*
ggBB Posted October 15, 2016 Hi I've been a lurker but made an account for convenience's sake---so unfortunately I can't post links to what I'm talking about but I wanted to give a heads up that... Danny post previews to his instagram (@dannychoo) yesterday! The body looks the same if you ask me, no face pictures yet but I'm pretty excited makes me wanna re watch girls und panzer after all this time!
foo Posted October 16, 2016 Pictures of Miho are up, http://www.dannychoo.com/en/post/27361/Nishizumi+Miho+Smart+Doll.html She's very cute, but to be honest when I first saw the photos on Flickr I assumed it was just Mirai showing off the uniform (・・')
Eustia Posted October 16, 2016 Yeah. That just looks like another Mirai to me. Danny's sculpts are far too samey.
Mimiyo3 Posted October 16, 2016 I'm 99% sure that's Mirai's sculpt with a different faceup. Cute, but honestly disappointing... Present! Eiko82 Posted October 16, 2016 Yeah, I'm pretty sure that it's Mirai's sculpt as well. Kinda disappointing that it's the same sculpt again. I guess that when Danny got the license, he hadn't started developing new sculpts yet. Hope that his next licensed releases will have different girl sculpts. katnaper Posted October 16, 2016 I guess I wasn't the only one who thought she was Mirai cosplaying. Still cute but a little bit sad that it wasn't a new sculpt. We have our own BLOG. Monty Posted October 16, 2016 ...yikes. I feel bad for saying so but this is a huge let down and I'm glad I'm not in any way attached to the series or I would be more disappointed. This doesn't bode bell for future licenses but at least he showed more sculpts before, so I'm pretty sure Spike isn't just going to be a cosplaying Eiji. It's almost like he only had license to make a full outfit and not a full doll. Curious what actual fans of the character think, cos they're what matters in the end. But then why make him hide it for so long? *twitter*instagram*art*
SolicitorPirate Posted October 16, 2016 I'm pretty underwhelmed as well. That said, I'm not sure whether it's because of the sculpt or the fact that Miho is just a really visually boring character. Either way, definitely not a doll I'll get.
