Sweet! I hope you and Semi can make it! If not, at least you might be able to go. We had a good time last year even tho it was a relatively small con.... it felt a lot more intimate than big cons do. And everyone was pretty nice as well. If you come, I know you'll have a good time!

Ok, perhaps this is a bit odd but I was thinking all of us attending should make a reference list of our DDs and another list off DDs we're interested in seeing in person. I have been in the hobby awhile but there are still quite a few I haven't seen in real life. I've also slimmed my collection down so my owned list is pretty tiny now. Anyway, I'll begin.

I brought Aozaki to the panel last year to show what some typical DD stains looked like. She was nekkid though for this purpose, rather than being nicely dressed, so I don't know if you remember her. If you were there (I think you were), you may have gotten to see Aoko at least once before!

Another panel was just added to the convention list! And it looks super cool and fun! I'll definitely be going to it as long as it doesn't conflict with my panels.

 

 

Also, my buddy AsianEd will be doing a photography panel there! It will be geared towards beginners but have loads of info on how to get great photos of your dolls! Once I have the official breakdown on that, I'll post it here. His panel will most likely be right after my Smartdoll panel and in the same room so he can use the projector I'm bringing.

Sorry for the double post but both panels sound fun. I have been wanting to improve my photography skills for a long time so that will be right up my alley.

A potential idea is to take a trip to the Atlanta Aquarium for some aquatic-themed photoshoots. This is downtown, so a short drive from Perimiter Mall where the Ravinia con hotel is. It is one of the few aquariums in the world where you can meet Whale Shark, which would make for some really interesting pictures. It's something unique and cool that you could do to make the day special, since you may not get the chance to meet this critter again in your lifetime.

 

Whale shark is so huge that most aquariums don't own a tank big enough for one. It's like a little submarine! Very nifty critter, I think. It looks like it's smiling if you look at it head-on .

 

As a bonus, this suggestion is inside, so you won't be too cold if there's a cold snap in November.

I saw the announcement on FB earlier today. I was stunned. Was really looking forward to the con. I understand why they had to cancel though, sad as it makes me and many others. They were losing a lot of money. Last year being very disorganized wasn't much help either, there was a lot of negative feedback. I was still hoping this year would be bigger and better but yeah... That's not gonna happen now. I was just talking with Razzy and the both of us are up to still doing something. I really wanted to see you all again!

In agreement with the above! Atlanta and the surrounding areas have so many nice locations for a big meetyo. I already took that day off and would hate to see it go to waste, especially since I always look forward to some doll time.

Depending on how many people are coming in (or flying and are unable to change travel arrangements without penalty), I would be up for having an extended meet in Atlanta. There's plenty to do and see downtown. The Georgia Aquarium, World of Coke, and Olympic park are within short distances of each other downtown with plenty of photo opportunities! There's also the Botanical Garden as well as the Zoo.

I've already made the time and financial commitments, so I suppose I'll be in Atlanta for a visit, which is fine with me if all you fabulous folk are there. I'd love to get together for an unofficial "Dollfie Dreams Forum" meet up. And I'd love to see any of the panels any of you would still like to host. I'm hoping the hotel will still honor the reservations at the convention rate (should probably call to find out), but I'll be in town from Friday noon till about Sunday 10PM. We should be able to come up with something.

I had signed up to do a panel on photography, but never got confirmation. I had started building some materials for it when I heard the news.

 

I still plan on finish the presentation material and publishing it online as a guide. Since it isn't going to be a full presentation, I'm starting to write more text into it.

I'm down for whatever we can do. The week end is good for myself.

I already have the weekend scheduled off, but like usual I'll only be attending Saturday. If we're still doing our thing, i'll be sure to attend.

 

Oh yeah, put Piedmont park into the list of places to visit as the botanical garden is also located in there too Though I think by november the leaves will have all fallen >.<

What a shame! I was so disappointed when I heard. I'd like to attend, but Atlanta is about an 8 hour drive for me. A multiple day convention would have been worth it, but for just one day I can't justify the drive & hotel expense. Maybe if there was an extended meet up with activities planned for Sat & Sun I could swing it. I'd love to meet some more DD (and their humans).

Well, it looks like we still have some interest in doing *something* so let's get a list of people who are definitely interested in doing something that weekend in Atlanta. Once we get a list up we can figure out what to do and then go from there. So far I have the following:

The idea of doing panels in hotel rooms was brought up earlier, who would be interested in either doing them or seeing them? I can do my Smartdoll panel without much fuss but I don't think any of the rooms are big enuff to handle the "Welcome to Vinyls" panel that Goodgolly does. But we can still do the video presentation if people are interested in seeing that, we just wouldn't be bringing along 20 some odd dolls. And I think AsianEd said he could do his as well. I've got a projector so we can either use that or just plug into one of the rooms TV's instead if it's a small group of people.

 

Let's hear some ideas, agree on them and then try to set up a schedule!

Yes! Yes! Yes! Since the convention has been cancelled some of us from the forum are going to have a meet anyway. We are in the planning stages now and trying to determine how many people will be their and what events to have.

In all likelihood we will use the convention hotel (http://www.cpravinia.com/) as a base and go from there. We are considering photo shoots at the hotel and some local venues, holding the panels that some members were going to host, and any other things we can come up with.

If you were going to the convention, there was a entry fee, hotel accommodations, transportation, etc. But as the actual convention has been cancelled some of us that already paid for those things (except the entry fee, which is supposed to be refunded) and took time off from work, etc. are just having a meet up. There is no cost involved with this meet up. You would have to provide your own transportation, accommodations (if you're staying more than one day), meals, etc. A couple of the venues we're looking at have entry fees, but right now we haven't decided yet.
